You know you're getting old when...

...all the current most popular celebrities on TV and in Music are now younger than you are. Seriously, I remember when all the hit actors and singers were older than me, now they've fallen out of the spotlight and are replaced by all the new ones that are younger than me.

Ecto Jedi 04-10-2013 06:58 PM

I get the same feeling when I look at the current NHL rosters.

gobo 04-10-2013 08:57 PM

when it takes you a minute to remember exactly how old you are.

...when you use to use a VCR to tape episodes off TV because there was no way to rewatch them later.

Its amazing how with online streaming media its all but rendered TV obsolete. I now watch shows more on the computer than on the TV when they air.

shuriken 04-10-2013 11:11 PM

Little kids call you "Mister"

Candy Kappa 04-11-2013 01:45 AM

This is so true, I wonder how many more reboots are in store for us.

Ha. Can't wait for the 50th Anniversary, where we throw all 147 incarnations of the Turtles on one holographic 48fps screen in our micro infotainment centers.

XERO 04-11-2013 08:17 PM

When Mario looks younger than you.

CyberCubed 04-11-2013 10:12 PM

...when you were actually alive when the NES was the current gaming console.

And yes, as sad as that sounds, most "teens" these days started in the Playstation 1 and N64 generation. I feel sorry for the kids who missed the whole 8 bit and 16-bit era.

dudeabides 04-11-2013 11:27 PM

Alive? I was almost in high school then. OUch!

KROW 04-12-2013 07:07 AM

The music you listened to when you were a child is now on the oldies radio station.

Side note: the search tag for this topic popped a blood vessel in my eye.

ObiWanFan4life 04-12-2013 08:25 AM

...when there are reruns of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. more recent then you.

BubblyShell22 04-12-2013 09:05 AM

When you realize your memory's going and you can't remember certain things.

Hm. This classic rock station in my area plays songs from Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam. Those bands were big when I was a teenager.

Martin 04-12-2013 05:08 PM

When you suddenly find yourself talking about kitchen furniture.

Waiting for a new TMNT ep while studying for an electronic devices exam is also a bit weird :trazz:

zak_the_neutrino 04-12-2013 05:19 PM

When your explaining the original TMNT from the 80's to younger newer fans of the current nickelodeon show. Also I have a 4 year old daughter who's into the original series cause we watch it together so yeah I feel real old and I'm only 30 lol. I have a son who's a month old so I hope he gets into it someday.

Refractive Reflections 04-12-2013 06:46 PM

When you talk about how much fun you had in the past (TV shows, video games, concerts, times with friends) and your younger cousins/relatives look at you, the same way you did when your parents talked about their younger years. LOL

When you have younger relatives ask you about historical events, such as "where were you" and "what were you doing" in heavier events like Princess Diana's death, Columbine High School Shooting, and Sept. 11th, and lighter pop culture events (i.e. asked to compare how big "Gangnam Style" is with the Macarena, and can remember Britney Spears being actually "normal" in the beginning of her career).

When you smile and see lines underneath your eyes in the mirror. LOL

When you have a collection of VHS tapes, cassettes and even older CDs, and you wonder if you should still keep them because you remember the effort it took to earn the money to purchase them and the excitement afterward...even though you already have those songs/episodes on DVD, Blu-Ray, or on your computer/iPod.

When you can appreciate quick internet speed because you can actually remember what a pain it was to wait for a single webpage, much less a video, to appear with dial-up back in the '90s.

When you can empathize with your parents about the difficulty and hardships of living on your own (i.e. paying bills, maintain the home, being by yourself, job struggles, upbringing children), and you actually want their advice rather than ignoring it when you were a child or teenager.

Or when you get really old: When your little black book is now filled with the names of several doctors than hot dates.

I already bought DVD counterparts of all the movies I owned on VHS, and I've sold all the VHS copies but one, since it's wicked rare. I did the same with my cassettes when I bought their CD counterparts. (I didn't truly switch to CDs until 1996.) The only difference is that I'm still keeping my CDs.

Refractive Reflections 04-12-2013 08:00 PM

LOL...I got a few more...

This may be crude, but humorous: When sex and/or sexual topics are just not that appealing as it once was.

When you feel like a whole different person nowadays (late 20s to early 30s) than when you were in your early 20s. You can remember the feeling of limitless opportunities and potential in your early 20s, and nowadays you have others or even yourself asking if this is what you had planned for your life.

When you thought being 18 or 21 would give this "new sense" of freedom and independence or wisdom, but looking back... it really didn't.

You can remember how outrageous the Jerry Springer show and talk shows really were in the 90s.

When your younger relatives or children look at you strangely when you say you could watch “good” cartoons from 6-9AM and 2-5PM on Weekdays (rather than those endless courtroom shows), and 6AM-12PM on Saturdays (when they didn’t have to be educational).

You can remember trying to find any excuse to give to your teacher so you could play the Oregon Trail on the computer.

When you go to a restaurant and inadvertently ask for the "non-smoking" designated area. When you can remember smoking/cigarette advertisements (i.e. Joe Camel, Marlboro Man, or Virginia Slims tagline "You've come a long way baby.") were plentiful on billboards and magazines, and those cigarette vending machines.

You can remember making a trip to Blockbuster (or any other video rental place) or the bookstore, in order to rent new movies, video games, or buy new books rather than simply downloading them online nowadays.

When you can remember when Micheal Jackson and Whitney Houston were seen as cool, trendy icons in music, and not dismissed as the butt of jokes by younger generations.

(I could go on and on if I really thought about it...)

CyberCubed 04-12-2013 08:10 PM

Here's a good one:

- When you remember a time when no Iphones or youtube existed.

Its hard to believe that when I was younger we used those old cell phones...they look like dinosaurs now.

Ecto Jedi 04-12-2013 08:51 PM

You used to watch Saved by the Bell. Religiously.

Refractive Reflections 04-13-2013 12:04 PM

Got a few more:

You know you're getting old...

When finding a good arcade is more difficult than finding the perfect birthday/anniversary/Christmas gift for someone, and even when you do find it, it's filled with people your own age and no one younger (early 20s or younger). Or you're forced to go to a kids' entertainment area (i.e. Chuck E. Cheese's) just to play arcade games and have to drag your kids/nephews/nieces along so you won't be the "creepy adult guy" there.

Most people can relate to this I'm sure: When the cashier/bouncer no longer needs to see your ID for you to buy alcohol or go into a nightclub.

When you find yourself agreeing with the statement "youth is wasted on the young".

CyberCubed 04-13-2013 12:06 PM

When you had a dial-up connection to the internet back in 1995 and 1996.

jenna 05-02-2013 06:26 AM

When you hear yourself saying: "I know it's cold, but the garden needs the rain."

You make it sound like it was 20 yea-wait... >_>

You meet a kid who says "What's that?" when you mention a VCR (happened last fall!).

zkarlette 05-03-2013 02:00 AM

When you had to buy a hole CD to hear that one song you liked. Or you remember having some vinyls.

Jester 05-03-2013 02:56 AM

Still have vinyls. Kinda wanna own TMNT on Laser Disc.

I never bought a Hole CD, although I do own Nirvana's "Nevermind". :)

Cure 05-03-2013 05:54 PM

I've bought CD's with holes in them. Does that count?
