Ninja Turtles The Next Mutation revisited
Ok, the first time i saw this show, I f*cking HATED it. I couldn't bare to look at the terrible costumes. I thought the new villians(except bonesteel) were lame and uninspired. I couldn't stand the irritating SFX. I hated the depiction of the turtles. I CRINGED at the attrocous voice acting and turtle puns. And Venus, let's not go there.
But I rewatched the show on the Hub, and do i still hate it? Yes Is is it as BAD as people say it is? yes. Is it undeniably entertaining though? HELL YES! Much like the Room or Plan 9,this show is so bad it's hilarious. Almost as if the creators made it bad by default. I highly recommend you(If you're brave enough to revisit it) to watch this show either on NetFlix of on The Hub for a unique and bizarre experience. Not saying you have to just sharing my opinions on it. |
Why's everyone like bone steel, he's why I stopped watching, he never does anything and is defeated like 83 times an episode.

its seriously horrible, i dont know what else to say i dont know what type of people watch such pointless crap, even as kids who'll watch almost anything i dont know why on gods green earth would someone find this actually appealing..
|
It's ok to have on as I do laundry or cook, but just barely
|
This thread has been brought in just as I got the whole series.
I had seen the butchered 5 part East meets West, so I jumped into episode 6. I thought it was OK actually. A bit silly, but I couldn't hate it, as I watched the 7th episode as well. That had Bonesteel. He wasn't bad. The whole thing looks like it should be a cartoon tho. I will, I am sure watch the rest of these. |
I couldn't get past episode 1.
Not then. Not now on Netflix. Infact I may have not last as long this time as I did last time... It's another facade of the Turtles I ignore (with the 3rd movie) lol |
Another NM bashing thread? Nice... :trolleye:
|
Watching through the series just once this past summer is enough to last me a lifetime. I feel like I've been to shell and back. :blanksta:
|
How many NTNM hate threads do we have now? 6, 10?
It's cheesy and often bad, but. Sometimes cheese is okay. |

just reciting personal opinion as short as possible, next NM bashing thread it'll just be "Cheese okay"

Next Mutation is by far the worst incarnation of the turtles ever. It's an abomination and why the Hub plays re runs is beyond me. I rather sit through a marathon of tmnt3 all day then watch next mutation ever again. |
worst incarnation of a franchise, maybe.
But, I'm not a huge fan of Turtle Tunes, Turtle Christmas, Blue Line and CootS so I'd disagree, there are things worse then Next Mutation |
I made it to episode 15 on Netflix before stopping. I should be commended. There are some good one liners, and some episodes, like "Turtles Night Out" are so bad they're good. But I can't say I have any interest in finishing the series.

Why is there a new Next Mutation sucks thread every single week. Seriously, there have got to be at least 3 or 4 Next Mutation or Venus threads that have been posted in over the past 3 weeks. For the most of us who strongly dislike this series, we wish to expunge it from our memory and forget it ever happened. For those few who for some reason did like it, as is their right I guess, they don't want to constantly see it bashed. What it boils down to is, no one wants to read the same crap over & over in a new thread each week.
There should just be one giant thread marked Next Mutation sucks for every person who feels like they need to add some new insight to the show sucking that the rest of us haven't already figured out. |

The series is bad but in a way where you can't really enjoy its badness either.
The whole show was just...off. |

I thought the show was bad in a funny way up until Venus came in as a Mary Sue, and then stopped watching. I really must see some later episodes to see if it improves, but I very-much doubt it will improve much.
|
I tried to rewatch NM on Netflix, but what bugged me were the edits more so than the stuff that make it bad. I missed it as a "kid" save for the VHS copy of East Meets West I have, and I want to be able to see it in all it's glory, not with the "best" jokes removed for no discernible reason.
Seriously, where's my "But the rat had a stick!" joke! |
I tried to like it but its not even "self aware funny" like the original toon is, it just tries to be kiddie funny but fails.
Granted I did like the concepts behind some of the characters like the blind man, Vami and Bonesteel. Dragon Lord was a terrible villain and he felt like a worse version of Lord Dregg. |
Saban's way of humor is that when it tries to be funny, it is NOT funny! It's more interesting to hit the mute button and try to imagine a more serious fight in your head. It's a pain.
|
When i said funny, i meant the poor decisions that were made in production.

I watched a couple more last night.
One about a party to raise cash for animals, and one about a mad scientist who was Dons idol. Both were very silly. However I was more amused by how intense my girlfriend was, while she was playing Temple Run 2 on the iPad. Arms flying around, and the exaggerated throwing from left to right of the device. I think the show is a bit like that. Everything is way OTT as the makers couldn't help themselves . So, I'm just taking it for what it is, and I'll continue to watch. |

Okay so
As long as I've been a fan, I've never in my life seen the NM incarnation of TMNT. Can someone please link me it possibly in PM? I wanna see it just so I can have a valid opinion on this thread :trazz: |
What about FF, BTTS, COOTS, WWATC, and Turtle Tunes?
|
Those too. There'a a promo for the next mutation on YouTube. It'a laughable how they justify the poor choices made there.
|
i've been tempted to try again to rewatch it on netflix lately, but it really seems like a chore. i tried it for the first time since it actually aired a few months ago and couldnt get past the first 10 minutes. even the third flick, i can sort of power through, but damn, is NM hard to watch. lol. its like this looming thing with me...like i know i have to do it, but i just want to keep putting it off. :/

If this show, and even the idea of a girl turtle is so hated, how does it come there are circa 500 milliard fanfiction stories out there, totally flooding Fanfiction Net, in which the turtles adopt a sister?
|
I guess some people like the concept of Venus. I don't since I found her to be a bland and useless character. But I hear some people say her piss poor portrayal wasn't her fault.

Anyway, Next Mutation would be at least 200-percent more watchable if it just lost its constant barrage of wacky sound-effects. Which, of course, would bring it up to a level of barely watchable. |
I didn't hate this show. I thought Venus was stupid from the beginning. I thought the costumes were well-made even though the Turtles had too much "stuff" on 'em - the classic look is always best. I thought the villains were cheesy, the scripts were corny, the voice acting was okay, the sound effects were stupid, and (embarrasingly) I really liked the theme song. (Not that abomination they replaced it with on Netflix. YouTube has the real one.)
Really, the costumes were not bad for TV quality. Well, except for Splinter, who looked terrible. But I thought the Turtles themselves had a Michael Dooney vibe, and if they'd had their traditional Ninja Turtle outfits, they'd have looked that much better. I don't understand why Dragon Lord was brought on in place of the Shredder, not to mention all the other lame villains. It seems like if you're gonna do a Super Sentai style show, all the wacky mutants from the cartoon are prime candidates for villains... |

I've already given my opinion on TNM on another thread but I will say this: I found "Turtles Night Out" to be decent even though Bonesteel was the main enemy and there was serious Turtle/human flirting. I found the episode good in a corny way. It had a protect wildlife concept. It was like watching Captain Planet.
|
So I'm the black sheep for liking TNM. I thought for first they were gonna have a band episode. Then learned that the band scenes featured on the closing credits were not from an episode, but from that promo music video. What saved my likeness? Raph on a motorcycle.
|
Yes, as a series it's pretty nasty on a number of counts, but it still has what in my opinion is one of funniest moments in TMNT history:
"But the rat had a stick." I watched TNM once, five years ago, and I am STILL laughing at this one. |
