TMNT #50 Treasury Edition

#50 treasury edition out today, reprinting (in a grand scale!) the original layouts of issue 50, with lots of Kevin's annotations! Also surprised to see full notes on issues 51 thru 54 included. Not sure why they stopped at 54 though - maybe to coincide with the Ultimate v4 Collection? Would have liked to see the final pages reprinted along with the layouts (but they probably want you to pick up the Ultimate Collection for that too). All topped off with some rockin' pin-ups, which I believe were also in the original issue 50, but I could be wrong. Anyway, it's a gem of a book to have for the hardcore TMNT fans, some 'new-old' material from the vaults of yesteryear. Definitely worth a look!

Does it have duotones?

No - because they are page layouts, not final art.

CyberCubed 04-17-2013 01:37 PM

Oh, I thought it was the regular #50 in addition to layouts. So you don't get the actual original comic at all?

Nope, as I said, they probably want you to buy the Ultimates Collection for that... or they just didn't have room (it's THICK for a staple-bound book). #50 was duotoned appropriately in the collection though, right?

EDIT: there is a 'Reference & Notes' section where Kevin makes some notes on a few shrunken-down pages of the final art.

frank_one 04-17-2013 04:20 PM

Wait.. no actual comic pages?? Layout pages only, mmh... I think I need to see it before buying this one. I was thinking to buy Ultimate Collection vol.4 and then we discovered that duoshade issue, so I decided to buy this one so that I could have had the first issue of City at War oversized at least but now.. I'm not sure I'm even buying this.

Yeah, the way this thing was advertised I thought it was the regular issue #50.

Powder 04-17-2013 06:35 PM

Hmmm, might be cool. I'll have to see if my shop has it when I head in.

mrmaczaps 04-17-2013 07:16 PM

I wasn't impressed that its not the actual book in treasury size... the artwork and stuff is cool to see... but i was hoping for an actual reprint... yet, i bought it anyways. lol

oldmanwinters 04-17-2013 07:25 PM

Didn't see a copy at my comic shop today. I didn't plan on buying but I would be interested to browse through a copy of this one.

Roseangelo 04-17-2013 08:43 PM

I wasn't sure if my shop would be getting this, but they did and I'm actually really impressed with it. Honestly, including the finished comic wouldn't make sense in this context. It is an interesting format to publish in. I could see them putting these layouts and the finished comic into a hardcover collection.

Cipher 04-17-2013 09:48 PM

Didn't even know this was coming out. Ordered.

TheCanadiandrome 04-17-2013 10:50 PM

I hope to get this

cartoonistaaron 04-18-2013 01:26 AM

Are these the layouts that were in the Artobiography book from a few years ago?

Anima Gemini 04-18-2013 04:14 AM

Unfortunately my shop didn't have this so I wasn't able to pick it up today. However, I did find some page previews here: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?p...eview&id=16124

Hopefully this will be helpful to some people.

Powder 04-18-2013 05:55 AM

That IS helpful, mhm! It tells me it's an instabuy. I'll have to keep my eyes out for it, that content is new to me.

JoshDA7X 04-18-2013 07:16 AM

I preordered this a while ago, along with this:

http://forbiddenplanet.com/100758-te...phy-hardcover/

It got posted yesterday but it hasn't arrived yet. I assumed it was just a larger scale issue 50 but nevermind, I'm sure the content will make up for it!

mgambino 04-18-2013 10:05 AM

I just picked this up today and I think it's great. I love seeing behind the scenes stuff like this. Also, if anyone cares about this kind of stuff, the book feels very high quality, almost tpb quality.

With a $10 Price Tag I'm going to guess most shops didn't order general stock, they probably only ordered copies for specific people that pre-ordered them when they saw it listed in the Previews (which was all the way back in November I believe since this book was supposed to ship in February.) I pre-ordered mine but haven't gotten a chance to pick it up yet from the shop, I'm looking forward to it!

liugeaux 04-19-2013 05:44 PM

Just picked this up, and flipping through the book, the content seems pretty dope (especially since #50 is one of my favorite issues), but two things stand out as really weird. Why is it not bound like a trade and why is it so big? Geez...I have no idea where I'm gonna put that thing. I don't know if all treasury editions are like this but this issue's size is cumbersome, and bulky. I haven't made it home yet, but I'm pretty sure it can't be comfortably stored with any other TMNT books. Its really odd.

**Edit** Woohoo, I finally made it to 100 posts!

Yah, treasury editions are always huge. I have a couple of the old Conan ones and they are pretty much the same size. I like the size as for a couple of issues but can you imagine owning an entire run of comics like this lol

Also, I don't know about you guys but I was actually really bummed I didn't get to read the actual finished comic in this format... Kind of a bummer imo

frank_one 04-21-2013 05:19 PM

Me too! After all, this is NOT a Treasury edition of #50... this is a treasury edition of Eastman's layouts for #50. That's a totally different thing, no one warned us!

CyberCubed 04-21-2013 08:09 PM

Does anyone have any pictures of what this thing actually looks like? Or is there any preview online?

Redrumh2o 04-21-2013 08:43 PM

Can someone measure the book for me?

FYI...jetpack has an exclusive one that is blank on the back....now that would be one large blank commission possibility!! I assume CGC would charge more $ for the size?

From the last page, http://www.comicbookresources.com/?p...eview&id=16124

Didn't realize that its just Kevin's layouts/pages were the intended content only in this? I swear to god the solicitation was the actual issue and the layouts and the original guest pin ups. The darn thing in Previews back then says 70+ pages. So why was it half arsed from the original books 40 pages? Or does all that early story summary/plots make up for this in content? Can anyone verify the page count? I have a feeling I may have answered my own question.

I went back to the February solicits thread and found a post that included the solicit from Rich's site: http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/sho...8&postcount=14

If you read carefully it only says "reprinting the original layouts," nothing about the actual comic. Yeah, I would have liked to see the finished pages as well, but this still is a really nice book, and gives us so much NEW (old) stuff to look at.

It is 72 pages. LOTS of notes, some pin-ups, even an old scanned pic of PL & KE. An impressive collection of behind-the-scenes material.

Redrumh2o 04-24-2013 02:38 PM

It sounds like all of the blank (large blank back) Jetpack variants were damaged on the spine and smudged on the blank back.....would have made for some awesome LARGE sketches.....wuh wuh

Abnormal Freak 04-24-2013 04:48 PM

This sounds pretty cool, but I too thought it would be an oversized reprint of the issue with bonus stuff, not 100% "behind the scenes" material.

Might try to pick it up since I'm always interested in the creative process of Eastman's comics.

Roseangelo 04-24-2013 06:14 PM

I honestly can't believe people are complaining about being given 100% new content.

Powder 04-24-2013 06:49 PM

Yeah that's pretty mind boggling for me too.

I don't think people are complaining at the existence of new content, at least I'm not, it just was a bit of shock and disappointment that when I picked it up I wasn't able to actually read the issue in this format.

But the issue is in Ultimate Collection Vol. 4. How is the format any different? The type of book this is, it couldn't handle the page count that would be required to also fit the finished book.

Cipher 04-24-2013 10:14 PM

Got this in the mail today. Pretty pleased. Definitely for hardcore fans only, but it's really cool to get to see this material.

And maybe I'm more at liberty to say this because I have both the original issue and (arriving tomorrow) Ultimate Collection Vol. 4, but it doesn't feel wanting for the finished pages at all.

DK2 05-11-2013 08:53 PM

Got this at a local store during free comic day. Since they offered a 25% off during that day I thought why not? Some moments its a little hard to read Kevin's writings of plans. Was surprised he stated that in the early pages of issue #50 layouts it sounded like Jim was suppose to draw that issue too. Maybe Kevin and Peter decided that they would draw #50 as well late in the process of development? I'm not complaining now. Its neat to see.

beardcore84 05-11-2013 09:37 PM

I'm never surprised when turtles fans complain. fickle bunch.

ToxicRevolution 05-12-2013 10:15 AM

I picked this up on the day it came out. I honestly didn't even know about it, I just happened to go into the comic shop that day. For only $10, it's a great book. Very cool to see all the concepts and production.

Jay $tarkiller 05-12-2013 02:07 PM

Since all you guys praise this book, I'll give it a shot. Just ordered it:trazz:

TheBlueTurtle1 05-13-2013 01:27 AM

Can you show off a few pages?
