Official Episode Discussion #21: "Karai's Vendetta"
 

Greetings everyone!

Well, it looks like we're back to the same Saturday morning schedule. It'll be airing at 11am EST, so make sure you set your DVR (or VHS, for us lo-tech types)

Alright, so the April and Karai Conspiracy theorists will definitely be tuning in this week. Apparent while the boys are trying to sneak into another Kraang base, it seems the Foot Clan will be working on a special project of their own.

Apparently Karai's pet Kraang has turned into a regular stool-pigeon, and boy has he been singing. The Shredder's finding out some Very interesting information about our young April. There's a lot more to April than we have been shown, and she now looks like something that the foot could have good leverage with..

So off Karai goes, ready to hogtie April and drag her back to the Shredder. But when Karai tries to take her captive, it seems the show is about to drop a major bombshell that could change everything about what she knows about the turtles, April and even herself.

This could be the big moment where Karai sees Splinter for the first time, or we could learn that April's part alien robot, anything is possible at this point.

Of course April defeated Karai. Typical.

Good stuff, that sea monster in love bit was veeeery awkward though.

Regarding the Karai-April fight, the actual hand-to-hand combat bit went about as I expected it would, and it's probably about how their little confrontation in the 2007 movie should have gone as well, with the girl in yellow being hopelessly outclassed.

Gotta love how both April & Karai had the foresight to make sure they put on their helmets for the motorcycle chase in the heat of the moment. Safety first!

What an explosive episode!

-April is immune to Kraang water!?!

-Turtle soup Karai? That's harsh...

-Cool to see Karai in civillian clothes... The same from her trading card!

-That Monster from Dimension X... So different from Traag...I wonder what else lies beyond that portal.

-It fell in LOVE with the SUB!!! :tlol:

-Poor April.. She really got hurt out there! But she pulled through and made it home alive!

-Looks like April will be staying with her "brothers" in the sewer from now on... I wonder what she will tell her aunt?

This was Russ and Ron's last episode they wrote for the series, and they did an amazing job! :tgrin:

Got a chance to see it this morning. Have to admit I had it on tv in the background, not really paying much attention. I really paid attention to the Karai April stuff, I liked the whole chase and eventually April and Karai fight. It was nice that April didn't totally kick Karai's butt in the first battle, it keeps Karai strong.

That was not mutagen, it was "Kraang Water", water found in dimension x that doesn't react well with earth and things/people on it.

I know I'm new, can any one tell me how Leo and Karai interactions were like? I'm going to see it tonight I know but. Also, what did Karai find out? I don't care if they are spoilersXD Thanks.

Leo and Karai didn't interact at all in this episode.

Actually she got hit pretty bad by Karai. April just caught her off guard. Really a great episode. Especially when April mentions she lost her mother.

Certainly adds credence to the theory that April might be a native being of Dimension X, doesn't it?

I liked Karia feeling bad for April's mom, cause she lost her mom. And liked stealth mode on the sub, when all the lights go off the turtles look like they have red bandanas.

Awesome episode. Loved the April vs. Karai fight.

Is she really immune to Kraang water? Something told me (if I can recall) that the water hit her bracelet and nothing happened. What if her bracelets are of alien origin?

Yet, I could be wrong. What do you think?

I'm sorry but this is probably my least favourite Episode right now. :( Everything had a strong build up and the premise was there...but all of that was executed abysmally!

First of all, NOTHING was revealed in this Episode. The closest we got was that Dimension X Liquid dropping on April and having no effect. THATS IT!

Secondly, the pacing was just bad. We went from the first act (which was actually the best part of the episode) straight to the third act! WTF was up with that. The whole time I was expecting some sort of bombshell being dropped at the end but that never happened.

Finally, that April & Karai fight scene was by far the worst I've seen in this series! There was no tension, no sense of danger when it was clearly needed. The ending was so abrupt and half-assed that I almost didn't even believe this kind of poor quality Episode happened.

I didn't mean to be so negative but that is my honest opinion. Best part of the episode was the Dimension X Creature (Again, that love scene was just not needed and it seemed half-assed the way the writers put it) and the undersea Kraang base was pretty cool.

This has been the first Episode to truly dissapoint me on EVERY level! I'm sorry but this Episode had nothing to offer. Almost Terrible :(
(4/10) "Karai's Vendetta" :( Hoping next time, they come up with something better.

I really liked Shredder and Karai trying to communicate with that Kraang at the beginning. But my question is, where did Dogpound and Fishface go? We didn't see them in the last episode OR this one, you'd think that we'd at least see them hanging around Shredder's lair...oh, and I'm happy that April is living with the turtles now, because now we'll see more of her. This has got to be my favorite incarnation of April yet! Oh, and Splinter licking Raph :lol:

I thought I saw some of it splash onto her wrist... Speaking of those, it is cool to see she has "arm wraps" like the Turtles. I never really noticed that until today.

Karai doesn't mention Leo at all and vice versa.
So you're saying this episode wasn't as good as episodes like Turtle Temper and Cockroach Terminator?

I guess it is your opinion, but I did feel tension from the fight scene. I was worried for April at that point.

Hey, quick question, I couldn't tell if April retrieved Splinter's fan after the Karai fight. Did she have it with her back in the lair?

Atleast those episodes delivered on what they promised. This Episode had NOTHING, and can be skipped without missing anything.

Me too, I actually felt really bad for her. I thought the turtles were going to jump in and defeat Karai at any moment.

Oh, and it was cool to see April using her fan. Did anyone else notice Splinter's clan symbol shining on Karai?

I'm guessing nothing was resolved because there is more to come to the season. We only have like 5 episodes left. Soon, every question should be answered.:twink:

What are you talking about? April is now officially living with the turtles, Shredder and Karai have that Kraang captive, April is immune to the Kraang water, and we discovered that she lost her mother, AND Yeah, this episode can be skipped for sure! :roll:

Not gonna lie, that part and the Turtles going stealth mode with their pupils disappearing upon the red light reminded me that the Awesome Visual touch was still there with the episode....

I thought it was interesting that April used the advice ment for Michelangelo.

I'm disapointed than, I hope it doesn't take too long for Karai to come back again :(

How long did it take for 2003 Karai to appear? I don't think I remember them being this spread out before, maybe its been a while for me to watch that show :P

WOW What a stunning revelation now that April is living with the turtles! That NEVER HAPPENS!

We knew Shredder had the Kraang captured last episode.... and all the foreshadowing stuff does NOT carry a 22 Minute Episode!

So I rest my case, NOTHING Happened and the stuff that did happen e.g the Karai fight were executed abysmally!

I liked that his advice also made a clever call back to his previous fight with Leatherhead, using his opponents weakness (his size) to win the fight.

Great episode
-We get too see Shredder questioning the krang.
-The krang water had no effect on April.
-April's mother is dead(well at least as far as she knows).
-April has to live with the turtles.
-Fun training sequence with splinter, April, and the turtles.
-April may have lost her fan weapon.
-Fight between April and Karai was fun and painful.
-Chase scenes were great.
-April outsmarting Karai also great.
-Sea monster was from Dimension x, not a mutant.
-The Krang that Shredder captured is still alive.
-Still no Baxter, Dogpound, or Fishface.
-Karai's facial expression when April threw her.
-April took a real beating in this episode but kept fighting.
-Donnie's Turtle Sub.
-April learning a lesion meant for Mikey.
-April calling the turtles, her brothers.
-Karai's choice of turtle soup.

Love Mikey's comment about "not (being) that kind of sub". Real cheeky, guys.

A good episode for me. I enjoyed both the Turtles and April in this one. Seeing April try her hardest to hold her own against a greater opponent was great. She's been stepped on by life a lot, and I get that she wants to do something about that.

I also liked that she got her butt kicked; I think it's brave of the show's writers to throw off the 'safety' every once in awhile and get serious. That it happened to April of all people is even better. Anyway, hope she gets in more of her licks later down the line.

I like how the Nick episodes generally tie the conclusion in which some important line of dialogue from the beginning of the episode.

I noticed while Splinter was sparring with April in the early bits, he made a point to draw her attention to the match between Raph & Mikey, probably hoping that she could pick up some lesson from example.

You gotta give these writers props how they are doing April at least, in the
80s version the turtles would always have to rescue her :P

Just wanted to bring up another point. Minor complaint, but the human designs in this show have never been one of its' strong points. Karai's design and proportions just kind of bugged me in this one. Seeing her teeny tiny hand next to April's big hand is one rather jarring instance, especially since they're supposed to be around the same age. Her design also gives her long legs, which is cool when she's jumping around. When she's jogging, not so much.

Cartoony proportions in CG have a tendency to look more 'off' than when they're 2D. It takes the right people to be able to move them in a way that looks good; Jack Skellington is a character that comes to mind: he also has long spindly limbs, so he takes longer and more graceful strides when he runs and walks. This is all subjective of course. I do appreciate the amount of work that goes into this show (the water in the previous episode was gorgeous). It's probably the best looking CG show out right now.

I thought like the scenes from the Space Heroes of the Away Team always needing to be saved from death were a great foreshadowing of April's plight in this episode. And that bit from Space Heroes was very, very funny.
