Mikey: Do you like how this show is treating him?

I think out of all the turtles hes getting the short end of the stick. Ontop of that they are making him out to be too stupid for comedy, when in fact we all know hes not really like that. What do you guys think? I thought these guys were fans of the 80s show :-?

TurtleTitan97 04-27-2013 11:14 AM

I don't really mind. Mikey has been great in this show and he makes me laugh alot. :)

LH 04-27-2013 11:14 AM

Like I've said before, Mikey may be absent minded at times, but his ability to see the good in people and look past appearances, as well as his general positivity help balance out the team dynamic. I really like that about his character, and it's why he is my favorite turtle.

CyberCubed 04-27-2013 11:16 AM

He's no worse than the 4kids one.

Wouldn't you like it better if he got more fights or scenes that showed how useful he was to the group? He makes me laugh too though, I thought even the 2003 series showed Mikey in better light thats me I guess :)

ObiWanFan4life 04-27-2013 11:19 AM

Actually I'm quite fine with the way Nick is treating him. He's not as smart as his
brothers, but he's not a complete idiot. Remember the end of episode 17(TCRI) when he swiped that krang data storage device.

The Stryker 04-27-2013 11:21 AM

I'm not really worried about his feelings since he doesn't exist.

But I think he's adorable in the show. Probably my favorite Mikey next to the first movie.

Well, we all know the turtles aren't real :P
I'm just asking fans how they feel about the character in this series.
Next episode sounds like a good one for him at least :D

Obi your right, forgot about the episode. I hope the show gives him more moments though in the future :D

edit;

Though, I do wish they'd give him a power up with his brain, I know hes not this stupidXD

There are other ways of being smart than just having a list of facts stashed in your brain. In conscious terms Mikey might appear to be a dumbass but subconsciously he takes in all the knowledge he needs. I suppose it's a bit like school, teachers don't teach you the subject, they teach you how to pass exams (no offence to any teachers out there - I have a great respect for your profession). Mikey is the opposite of that.

It has been said a few times in relation to this series that Mikey is probably the best Ninja out of all the brothers. His ability to respond to situations without thinking puts him in a higher league.

Also he can see things in others that his brothers cannot.

Personally I love that little dude to bits.

Powder 04-27-2013 07:15 PM

This thread has been done a billion times already & you're in the minority.

alliance 04-27-2013 07:18 PM

im getting alil tired of mikey to be honest..f*cken annoying and boring as hell sometimes..to me personally hes headed towards being nothing more than prop..

hes just there...and thats it..

BabyTurtles 04-27-2013 07:20 PM

still love Mikey.

can't wait for next episode. :D

sure he can say the wrong things at time....but he's just so darn lovable....that all you wanna do is pat him on the head XD

and like Greg Cipes said :) he's gonna wise up as the series goes on (not in a I can do math way.....but in his own way)

Shark_Blade 04-28-2013 06:53 AM

He said that? I believe in Greg Cipes [/corny Dark Knight quote]. :p

Yeah I like Mikey. Some of his jokes may seem a bit off but overall I like him. An he reminds me of Beast Boy, so that's another plus.

BubblyShell22 04-28-2013 08:23 AM

Mikey is awesome. I don't think he's bad at all. He has his moments where he shines, and I love his compassion for others and his desire to want to belong and be friends with people. That's great for his character. At least he's not a stuck up jerk like 2003 Mikey turned out to be.

Candy Kappa 04-29-2013 02:54 AM

Michelangelo is a fantastic character. he might not be the smartest of the group but he is as competent fighter as the rest of the turtles, he is quick and have intense fast reflexes. Being tossed away by Shredder, he threw Shuriken at him in retaliation.

Shark_Blade 05-01-2013 09:46 PM

Let's not forget he beaten Raph during sparring in the recent episode. Kinda reminds me of Battle Nexus in 2k3 and became champion, he's really a great fighter if he puts his mind to it. I blame his ADHD.

http:SlashSlash 05-01-2013 10:58 PM

I think all of the turtles are getting good treatments from Nick. They all have individual traits, which is great for character-building. But let's face it, out of all the turtles, Mikey HAD to be updated. 'Cowabunga!', for example, in 2012/2013 probably wouldn't have latched on to anyone watching turtles for the first time. Granted, at times, he could come across as too dumb, but overall, he's become one of the show's stronger points.

Cipher 05-01-2013 11:21 PM

Agreed with most comments in this thread: This is a very likable version of Michelangelo.

jenna 05-02-2013 04:06 AM

As is the case with all the turtles in this show, I think we are looking at a 'younger' version of the Mikey we've known in the past. Previous turtles never really felt like teenagers to me. With Nick, they all feel fifteen.

Mikey has scope for growth and development. I don't think he's dumb at all - just not interested in things which don't appeal to him. In The Alien Agenda he demonstrated he's capable of understanding and retaining scientific explanation. "Building blocks, dude!"

Plus, he is always smiling. I love people who are always smiling. :D

I'm pretty sure he said "building blogs" there. :tlol:

Anyway, Mikey has always been my least favorite of the turtles, but I think in this series he's ok. MUCH less annoying than the 2k3 version, and this one actually makes me laugh sometimes. :)

At first I hated Mikey, but he has grown on me. The hole show has. It has adult"ish" humor in spots, some legitimate Japanese fighting terms and some decent action. Raph is my favorite Turtle but I am not liking him best on this show!

No he was reciting Donny so I'm pretty sure he said "building blocks".

Venom 05-03-2013 07:04 PM

The other day on Nick they had a "Who's more mindless - Mike or Patrick", so that really worries me that the writers really don't understand Mike.

In the FCBD TMNT Animated comic, we get to see a really nice moment that surprises them all, so much that Don exclaims "Mikey, that's brill-" before Raph slaps his mouth shut and says "Never finish that statement!"

Mike's not stupid, never had been, he simply prefers the fun of life over over analyzing and dwelling on stuff. He's the quintessential slacker smart guy - everyone knows he's got the natural ability but he doesn't utilize it.

thats not the writers fault XD that was Nick.

still mad they did that though :ohwell:

I hated Nick did that so much. " Fun loving innocent Slacker who doesn't pay attention that much but catches on when the moment is needed" is a way better description. At least Mikey was shown to be smarter than Patrick which makes me feel a little good but not by much. One that was better-"Who was the better master-Master Splinter or the Kung Fu Panda master?"

HeroTurtlesFan 05-07-2013 08:46 AM

I really like Mikey in the new series; love the "naming" joke.

BubblyShell22 05-07-2013 09:21 AM

I agree that Mikey is far from dumb. He's just laid back and a bit naive about things as he should be after spending nearly fourteen years in a sewer. I love his compassion in this series and how he wants to be accepted by others.

I was just going to say the same thing.

As for those silly montages, I would like to see a few more like "Who Dances Better? SpongeBob or Michelangelo?" or "Who's a cooler leader? Leonardo or Skipper?" I would absolutely love those ones more. The one with Splinter and Shifu was a good one, so I'd like to see some more but with the other characters.

Crabfight 05-07-2013 11:10 AM

This version of Mike can definitely ACT mindless sometimes, no doubt about it. I definitely wouldn't call it a trait inherent to the character, but come on, he spilled skin-melting acid on April.

That being said, he DOES have two great qualities that ARE inherent to him. He has great fighting instincts (This was shown when Splinter was trying to teacher Donatello not to think too much when fighting; I forget which episode that was.) and, as has been stated before in this thread, he seems to be very sponge like in his ability to take in skills and concepts, even if he can't retain specifics very well...

The Sewer Lord 05-07-2013 11:26 AM

He's fine. Although unlike other versions, he's rather dumb than laid back.

I was surprised at how fast Mikey learned Bradford's "Death Dragon" kata XD
and used it against him.

when villains underestimate Mikey it only gives him the upper-hand.

Fun fact about the 2k3 and the 2k12 Mikey -- they both seem more impressive when the other turtles are not around.
Don't get it?

In "The Christmast Aliens", 2k3 Mikey had a wild ride through town. Fought like a baws and never made jokes.
In "It Came from the Debts", Mikey spoke like a philosopher to Leatherhead.

Maybe he's ADHD. It's all that pizza - too many e-numbers.
