IDW doesn't plan on collecting the Image books?!
Because "there may be too much of it"?
Double you tee eff... there is 23 issues of 22 pages, or 506 pages, along with Big Bang #10 and the four or five filler pages from the TPB. Roughly a 530-page book, or two 265-page collected volumes. Hire Frank Fosco to draw new covers, don't color it. Doesn't make sense that a continuation of the Mirage universe be case aside due to licensing from Image or whatever. |
Good thing about plans is that they aren't set in stone... at least, not in this day and age. ^_^
|
Well, since IDW doesn't seem capable of putting more than 4 issues in a book...
|
I don't know where any of you got this from. They're not planning on it now because they didn't even finish Volume 1 yet, and naturally Volume 2 would be collected next.
Ask again after we have the last Volume 2 collection. |
The Bleeding Cool article, which I take with a grain of salt but it's the first we've heard since Bobby mentioned they may at some point down the road (in a couple years).
|
the image run would probably be the only TPB that i'd pick up. i never got into these comics when i was younger, so i never bothered to collect them. i have all of the other tmnt comics, so i have no need for trades....but these...i probably would.

It's been a while since I've read the image comics, but isn't the series pretty deeply embedded in in the Imageverse? I'd imagine it could be a pain to get permission from all the owners to use the characters in the reprints... From my understanding (which could be completely misinformed), Image creators own their characters, so even if Larson was on board with the reprints, others may not be.
|
But they're owned by IDW/Nickelodeon now, they can do as they please without asking their permission, right?
|
Like mgambino, I was actually curious as to where this material stood from a legal standpoint, as it contains a number of characters still owned by Image.

They'd only have to secure permission from 2 individuals and that seems entirely feasible. |

You guys are also forgetting that "Body-Count" takes place in the Image-verse, I didn't see that mentioned here. So there are a lot of odds and ends, tie-ins with other books (like Savage Dragon) and random bits... I could see them not wanting to be bothered with it, honestly. Seems like a lot of trouble. Don't get me wrong, I love the Image series, and IF they were to reprint it, they should buy Andrew's conclusion, since a lot of love and hard work was put into it and it more than suffices as an adequate conclusion to the series, and make that conclusion official so that it can be read on a vast scale. |
Gary Carlson already said he'd allow IDW to re-print the Image series. I remember someone, I think it was Andrew (?), posting a quote from Gary saying, "I'm not happy about another company reprinting our comics, but I also don't own the TMNT, and it would be really wrong of me to prevent people from seeing the material."
I'm sure he'll allow it. |

Note that in addition to Erik and Gary, they might need to get permission from Chris Ecker, as he co-owns the Knight Watchman and Galahad with Gary, but I'd bet he'd also be cool with it. |
Probably what they mean is not anytime soon. If money gets dry they'll have to do it.

Not sure why this is being discussed. The trades are still only up to Volume 1, and the only stuff they're collecting from Mirage otherwise is Tales of the TMNT so far.
Once we get finished with Volume 2 collected, THEN we can complain if IDW isn't collecting the Image series. We're still far off. |
I probably wouldn't pick it up any way, considering it ended/cancelled (??) with a cliff hanger any way
feel kind of pointless to pick it up to me |

excuse me but body count did not play in the image universe..all the characters that I remember were created by kevin...
as for the topic, all we read in that 'article' was one comment about it by one person, the people at idw know that we love to get the image tmnt comics reprinted and I remember that they like them too so its in their mind probably too;)(cowabunga corner interview #2 with tom waltz for example)...I bet we get a nice reprint of it(HOPEFULLY in its orginal black and white outfit!)in a few months or years... cant wait to read them in a row, I still lack many of those issue in between.. |

Plenty of good comics (and TV shows, and book series, and video games) have been canned before the story gets tied up, but that doesn't make them pointless. |

I'm a bit conflicted though. One one hand, it's pretty cool to see where to story was supposed to go. On the other hand, it just pisses me off all over again that we didn't get at least 10 more issues. |

I bet they'll get to it eventually, if TMNT remains popular enough. I'd imagine they just list Tales V.2 and, eventually, TMNT Volume 4 higher on their priorities.
That being said, I think this is bullsh*t. |
I think Image will come right after Volume 2 is collected.
Volume 4 isn't even finished yet so I'm sure its the last thing they'll bother with. |
I kinda hope they don't release it any time soon. It makes my complete set including #1 variant and 2 issue conclusion more valuable (even though the 2 issue conclusion won't be included.
What is the big bang #10 about? |

A single issue can sell for more on eBay than a trade of 5 issues will. |
yes, but when there are no complete trades out there, that means all of the original, single issues are worth more since there is no other way to collect them all.

and by pointless, I meant it is pointless in me picking it up if it isn't complete |

Cool that you have those but
1) I run a comic shop and a very successful online business and I PROMISE you that, if anything, a TPB announcement will spike the issues prices, and with movie hype over the next few years, the books will be at their highest value. If you're not planning to sell at that point, you'll miss your best shot. 2) not cool bro. These books should be available for all TMNT fans to enjoy and judge for themselves. I know you're just messin' around though! |
Erik Larson told me at New York comic con last year that if they'd been allowed to finish the story they would have had everything wrapped up within two to three more issues. He was quite irritated by it. I think they should blow all of our minds and give Erik the opportunity to do said issues. Wether it be printing the individual issues or just printing them exclusively in the trade I think a lot of us would buy them. :tgrin:
|
Well the finisher we got through Andrew is essentially what we would have gotten through Image (though with a much different art style). After all, Gary handed over all of his old notes for how things would go. I would definitely rather see it re-drawn by Frank if it were to see print, though. The covers are keepers, however.
|
Erik Larsen doesn't know what happened in Volume 4 though.

I did say essentially, meaning pretty similar. Same groundwork. Lady Shredder wasn't going to be Karai, by the way.

Either way... Lady Shredder certainly wasn't going to turn out to be Tang Amaya/Headhunter had they wrapped it all up in the 90's. |
More recently I had read (or heard) through Andrew (?) that Gary said he was positive it was not going to be Karai, though he couldn't recall what his exact plans were. Andrew can you verify that or am I imagining things? I swear I remember this...

I'm sure they'll get around to Vol. 3 run in TPB's one day (hopefully more than 4 issues at a time). I can't see any of the Image creators/characters being too much of an issue. Its not like those characters are really hot and famous. I'm sure some minimal payment from IDW to the three Image guys would do. I mean if Dave Sim (basing this on my memory of Sim's youtube video) gets $500 for everytime TMNT Ultimate Collection Book 2 gets another printing (plus free IDW HC/TPB's of his choice), these Image guys must be getting something way smaller. Or they may be too proud and just let the darn material be reprinted for free. Who knows? Can't see it being something that prevents it from being reprinted. Or they can go the like the first Transformers Marvel trades IDW did and just skip those issues with some detailed summary. But Image characters were in the series alot more than a per issue appearance at times so that might not work out well (is my memory off?).
