So excited for this! :D

MikeandRaph87 05-09-2013 03:40 PM

I believe it was Donnie who felt Raphael was not getting the characterization moments and Tom teased its just around the corner. This is it. Leo will have a character piece and so will Raphael via his run in with the foot clan alongside Casey Jones. Looking forward to how this will all play out.

CyberCubed 05-09-2013 07:40 PM

By the time this arc ends I can see there being a major status quo changed in the IDW universe. Probably a major death for one of the characters.

Metropoliskid41 05-09-2013 07:45 PM

I can't wait for this issue. This story arc is gonna be epic!

Death in a major storyline to make it impactful has turned cliche. Its expected. Any major storyline does not need death just great plot and great
characterization as a result of a great plot. From the previews we will get that!

Hey,MK41! Nice to see you drop by.

Bossodio 05-10-2013 01:32 AM

I was hoping to get a preview at the Idw booth at wonder con but now I am glad that did not happen. I want to be on the edge of my seat throughout the whole read. :trolleye:

Doubt Nick would allow anything like that. But let's see.

I was thinking more of a secondary character dying, perhaps someone like Angel? Casey seeing his friend die could truly thrust him into crazy vigilante mode ala Mirage Casey.

Alopex...she'll be all like "shredder I'm done with your crap" and then shredder will be like "not in my house!!!" And stabs her to death and Karai, through observing this, learns not to back sass grandpa.

marcelangelo 05-10-2013 09:30 AM

I have to honestly say this time I am a little unimpressed so far with everything that I could see of this city fall project(sorry, just my oppinion)..so far it all seems so forced in my eyes somehow.I think the fact that this seems to lean on the 'city at war' story and if in name only doesnt help me here...
but all in all idw was good for one or two surprises and the micros have been wonderful, also I have to admit the last story arch while presenting so much allready covered ground in general(I mean turtles in space etc) was really delightful to read..so Im staying open and wait and see for myself;)...

I don't think Alopex will die... she'll probably join Hob's Mutanimals :tlol:

She has to go and be forgotten before comic cons are overrun with furries cosplaying as her. They haven't figured out she exists but I fear city falls inevitable popularity will change this.

turtlefan27 05-10-2013 01:39 PM

haha!!good point,she must go..

Tazi 05-10-2013 01:44 PM

Why is this story arc compared to City at War constantly?
Sure, they're both kind of gang war stories... anything else?

Strictly because of the name. As far as I can see there's no similarities, in fact I could see IDW having an actual adaptation of city at war. But with shredder alive it can't be done. Also take note that a lot of the people making these comparisons probably aren't mirage fans.

I would say it's not a coincidence that the names bear similarities, as well as the fact that this is the longest arc so far (which goes the same for the Mirage counterpart). That said, I'm willing to bet City Fall will contain homages, as they've done that several times in the past (see: Leonardo Micro-Series). I also wouldn't say that those making comparisons are not Mirage fans, as I find it unlikely that anyone but Mirage fans would even be familiar with City At War. It's a major storyline, yes, but only among comic fans and peripheral hardcore turtle fans.

The horror!

Btw, I know it's kinda obvious, but it's funny how IDW is kind of a "prequel" to Mirage. I know the two continuity doesn't fit together at all, what I mean is, in Mirage, with #1 the turtles finished their training, so they went to fight Shredder /a major player in NYC underground/, and they slayed him down. In IDW, the turtles still got a lot to learn, they're not that good fighters at all, the Shredder could (possibly) beat them, who is just recovered from a long sleep, and starts to take over New York.
So if we will ever have a Mirage #1 equivalent in IDW, we still have a long way to go before that. :)

Vol.2 is also 13 issues long like City at War.
Well, in case it can be viewed as one story arc, instead of two.

I like thinking of IDW in more or less the same terms too.

Vol. 2 is 13 issues, but isn't one self-contained story arc. It isn't as clearly defined, but it definitely shifts from one focus to another (Baxter attacks, DARP captures Raphael, etc). In any case, the similarities (or homages) to City At War are still there in City Fall. It's not a huge deal, but it's there.

CyberCubed 05-10-2013 04:30 PM

City Fall is obviously going to have some nods to City at War. I'm just surprised we didn't get IDW's version of Return to New York before City Fall.

The Krang arc was basically IDW's version of the Turtles in space arc with Fugitoid sans the Triceratons.

I'm just wondering if the Second Time Around shop will be burned.

marcelangelo 05-10-2013 05:48 PM

I think this is just the problem for me.I feel we already have all the ORIGINAL adventures where these things happened.its fine to pay homage to some key moments yet I feel it is much more important to go to some very new and never before explored places..why not come up with something completely original and untried?you know?...with time this will just feel like food from yesterday instead of something fresh...together with the fact that idw is also GIVING us reprints of the original issues that are still so great, I cant understand why they work so hard on touching the old stuff everywhich way they can...when they could much better venture out and stretch their wings in some untried terrain...I mean they have proven they KNOW the personalities well enough...

I think IDW is doing a fair amount of original material. Secret History Of The Foot Clan is proof of that. Plus, while City Fall may have nods to City At War, it's essentially a very different story. It's about the rise of the Shredder, rather than the repercussions of his downfall. We've never actually gotten a Shredder story like this in the comics, so it's pretty cool!

IDW certainly has homages and takes certain cues from Mirage, but it's not an IDW "version" of Mirage, so there's no reason to believe it will do every Mirage storyline. They are aware of our expectations based on what's come before, and am sure they are having a fun time toying with those expectations.

you may be right...and its true that the basis of what this storyline is about is actually quite different...like I said in my first post Im gonna stay open and just read along.Im sure its gonna be fun.I think the advertisement for city fall is also very city at war like(maybe thats why I feel a little meh right now about it)..the line in the above picture just screamed 'when a city goes to war green turns to red'-copy out to me;)...

Although, we will have Silent Partner with City Fall, but with Ralph being beaten up instead of Leo, like in the movie.
Spoiler:
...and with gang wars that leads to the uprising of Shredder, and mindcontrolled Leo on his side, and Casey almost killed, and Old Hob's gang, and Hun, and Savate ninjas, and Karai turning against shredder, and Rocksteady & Bebop.

Doesn't feels like City at War to me.

MikeandRaph87 05-10-2013 06:50 PM

While Karai may or may not leave Shredder's play what about Kitsune doing her own thing against Shredder's orders?

What is "Silent Partner",for those of us not well versed in the balck and white comics?

"Silent Partner" is the issue where Leonardo is ambushed and beaten by the Foot clan. The ending reveals the return of The Shredder (since issue #1). It was also the inspiration for a similar scene in the first TMNT movie, only the used Raph instead of Leo.

They've been doing similar things to the way 4kids handled things. They're loosely taking Mirage material and putting their own spin on things. Which is fine because I like the comparisons.

From the way City Fall is advertised it seems like the villains are going to "win" this time. Shredder will finally be built up as the main threat and the Turtles will probably be defeated...I can see the Second Time Around shop being burned to the ground and Turtles escaping the city to a farm house like always.

This whole arc has a, "Shredder is back, the heroes are going to lose" vibe to it. I think we're in for a mix of City at War and Return to New York.

Oh, okay. I actually have that one. I just didn't know the issue's story title. You could have just said the Leo one shot. :P Thanks for the clarification.

You know, people are talking about it being the opposite of City At War which it may draw cues from. I would like to see cues from The Forever War concept somewhere down the line if not in this storyline.

how so?my books always told me the storys title was 'what comes around goes around....'
we're talking about mirage leonardo micro, right?

corvus 05-11-2013 10:28 AM

So I see city fall paving the way to city at war. City fall sounds like it will focus on shredders rise to power by uniting all(or most) of the different factions. City fall will probably focus on the resistance to this, from Angel and Hob etc, and of course the whole Leo issue. So off in the distant future, when shredder dies(or appears to have) karai will inherit leadership of all the factions and they may not respect(or fear) her the way they did Saki. This causes them to fight against the foot for independence, in city at war. Wouldn't it be cool if was dead on?

I cant wait for this uggh..... Tom Waltz why do you tease us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ToxicRevolution 05-12-2013 10:00 PM

Also chiming in to say I can't wait for City Fall... Honestly, the nods to the Mirage stories are great but in the end, I really don't care whether it connects to the old continuity or not; the IDW series has been phenomenal and it can definitely stand on its own.

MrTMNT2012 05-13-2013 01:55 AM

With the way this series is going....I think IDW's City Fall could possibly surpass that of City at War in terms of Greatness! :) Can't wait.
