City Fall Discussion Thread

With 22 coming out yesterday thought I'd make a thread were we could collectively talk about the arc. Issue 22 was crazy awesome, every page was gorgeous, Santolouco has a great grasp on dynamic action scenes and his design of the turtles is my favorite by far, he really highlights their individuality physically and personality wise and the scaled down size is cool IMO. I'm glad to see the return of Angel. Cant wait to see more interaction between her and April. Its also really dope how Splinter accompanies them on certain missions like the one in this issue. So what did you guys & gal's think?

Redeemer 05-30-2013 07:57 PM

HOw long is City of Fall arc suppose to be????
Any way I still think Kitsune is going to put Leo under a spell or alter his memories.
Casey probably will survive, its a given.
I also wonder if Rocksteady and Beebop will make an appearence??

I think it last 22-26. I was thinking the same thing with Kitsune, cuz there is no way Leo would go evil willingly.

Leon 05-30-2013 09:28 PM

So they said they have been hinting towards this shift in loyalty for a while now what where those hints. I think their going to wait for this series to be over to introduce Rocksteady and BeeBop. Once I saw they had to kidnapp him to get him to go with them I knew he was going to be brain washed in some fashion.

You mean CIty Fall arch?????? I am just a little surprised they teased us with them in the Raph Micro and then not show or here word of them sense.

sawcesome 05-31-2013 03:30 AM

Issues 22-26? I wonder how they're gonna collect it. It's only a five-issue arc, but that still leaves out lonely ol' 21.

I apologize if the knowledge of future collections is common.

It's a 7-parter.

21-24 in one trade. 25-28 in the next.

DONATELLO DUZMACHINES 05-31-2013 11:35 AM

I didn't know it extended through 28!!!! That's awesome news:tgrin:

Thats because as drastic as this series is going to be for the turtles they will eventually prevail and thats when Shredders going to have to advance his tactics with more mutegen trials ie Rocksteady and Beebop

MrTMNT2012 05-31-2013 08:34 PM

So I finally bought all the issues and all the mini-series leading up to City Fall, and just a few moments ago I finished reading issue #22 and all I can say is: Wow... Astonishing :D

City Fall has the potential to become not just one of my favourite Turtles Story, but just one of my favourite Story Arcs in any media.

I love the banter between the turtles, the art by Mateus Santolouco is breathtaking, the stories are very original/inspired and well paced, all the little references to real Ninjutsu techniques make me fangasm, the characters are incredibly developed and the writing is focused and flawless.

I have never given any series such high praise, but I believe IDW really deserves this as I was left genuinely thunderstruck by that 'one event' that happens in Issue 22!
And this is just the first part, what a way to start!

"City Fall: Part 1" (9.8/10) :)

LH 05-31-2013 09:14 PM

I thought Part 1 rocked! My first issue of the IDW comic and I'm very excited to see where the story goes. :tgrin:

ctt4lfecw 05-31-2013 11:14 PM

Amazing stuff. Best issue so far.

blue_angel99 06-01-2013 02:42 AM

Enjoyed Part one greatly!

Spoiler:
Angel!!!:tgrin: Will the Purple Dragons become permanent allies of the turtles? Hope so. I was really impressed by Shredders plan on capturing Leo.

sawcesome 06-01-2013 03:40 AM

Gah. Times like this I kinda hate being a trade-waiter. I was so close to buying #22 when I was in my LCS the other day.

Red Robin 06-01-2013 05:19 AM

The first issue of City Fall was pretty awesome. I hope they can keep the level.

Buffy 06-01-2013 09:25 AM

Spoiler:
Maybe to save Casey's life, Leo strikes a deal with Shredder: Casey's life for Leo's servitude. They used this storyline in the 3rd season of the vampire diaries. And in the process, Leo might even get to like this life on the dark side.

Spoiler:
I don't see how Casey's life is really in Shredder's hands now. Its up to modern medicine and time. I'm curious to see how and why Leo turns but that will not be the reason.

PS: Wrapping everything in a spoiler tag on this thread should get interesting.

Tazi 06-01-2013 10:39 AM

Anyone's up for some more predictions?

Spoiler:

#23 with lots of different artists involved, there must be a lof of flashbacks in it, I have two guesses. 1.) Casey is about to die (but he probably be saved just in time) and in his mortal agony, he has a flashback about his life, which is mostly a recap of what happened in the idw series so far. It would make sense, since the creators stated that they want City Fall not just as a big story, but as a jump-in point for new readers. 2.) Similar flashback sequence, but with Leo. Someone wrote as a speculation, that Kitsune might erease or change his memories. That would also make sense, but what would be even cooler, if Kitsune would just restore Leo's memories from his old life, which ones would lead to a change of heart for him, instead of Kitsune enchanting him or mindcontrolling. I had this idea before, that Kitsune might be Tang Shen, which is bull****, I admit, but this whole heel-turn for Leo is pretty likely have something to do with his mother. Maybe he will blame Splinter for her death? Or maybe he will blame him for saving Casey, and leaving his own son alone for Shredder? Also, the training he had with Splinter at the beginning of #22, is might be a foreshadowing of that he joins the Shredder only for a suprise attack in the right moment later.

One more thing I'm really curious about is the "Angel almost died, but saved by Casey" thing. I wonder if that has anything to do with Hun, and the coming debut of him. I think it has! :)

Btw, I wonder if you guys who thought it will be the IDW version of City at War, are you still feel like that, or not? :)

ToxicRevolution 06-01-2013 10:53 AM

Honestly I hope there's no recap of the series via flashbacks. That's great for people just getting into the series, but I want to see the story move along.

Spoiler:
Hey guys, you don't have to put everything in spoiler tags.

Shreddhead 06-01-2013 11:46 AM

So I havent been to my local CS in about 4 months but I went yesterday and picked up all the issues I had waiting for me. Ive stayed away from any previews or cover images that have been floating around cause I didnt want to spaoil anything. Holy Crap! First off let me say I LOVED the Secret History of the Foot Clan! I know this isnt really the place to discuss that, but being a huge fan of all things samurai I thought it was amazing. Now back on track, City Fall is off to a great start. We're one issue in and the stakes have already been raised mighty high. Casey dying, Leo kidnapped, and a new mysterious villain in the midst- And I bet things are gonna get even worse when Leo shows up again. Not a whole lot more I can say about it now, but I cant wait for the next issue. City at War is my all time favorite tmnt arc so I was a little skeptical about this at first, but theyre handling this pretty well imo.

ProphetofGanja 06-01-2013 05:37 PM

I'm thinking that Leo may have to kill Slash (or he's tricked into it) and that pushes him over to the dark side.

It's possible, anyways

I dont think so, because the foot already have Leo and I think kitsune will use majic or something to brainwash him.

but then how does Leo end up wearing Slash's mask? (as seen here)

Powder 06-02-2013 10:37 PM

He had Slashes mask already. He got it after their first battle.

Slade 06-02-2013 10:49 PM

Wow, I never saw that cover. I love it.

Anyway, I'm going to echo others and say I think Kitsune is going to brainwash Leo. Though that is the easy way out, so maybe we will all be surprised.

Oh yeah I totally forgot. Slash really didn't have his mask for very long

That is a cool cover, I hadn't seen it before either.

Powder 06-03-2013 12:40 AM

My favorite cover of the IDW series. :)

Plasticplayhouse 06-03-2013 05:34 AM

that's kevin's best cover for IDW thus far.

not my favorite cover, in fact I don't like eastman's art style. But that cover is his second best cover after #21 imo

also back on topic, in the first few issues the savanti ninja was talking about a war coming, I wonder if the events in City Fall is what he was talking about???

Tazi 06-03-2013 10:32 PM

Why are you keep saying SavaNTI instead of SavaTE?

Given how similar the names of Savanti (Romero) and the Savate ninjas are, it's understandable they got their wires crossed. At least once or twice, anyway. :P

Vi11AiN6 06-07-2013 04:08 PM

Just read it I too think Kitsune is going to be the one to put a spell on Leo. He's too head strong and loyal to Splinter to ever turn against his family. If anyone were to turn because of anger (the darkside) it would be Raph.

Right now I feel like Mike is the most left out Turtle in the series, aside from his being sad about the Pizza guy not talking to him anymore we've not seen a lot of development like we have the the other Turtles. The conversations between Donnie and Leo and Donnie and Fugitoid have really given us a look at Donnie, Raph has had more attention than any other turtle and Leo has had a lot as well.

I hope we a part of this arc well Mike really shines (because in the Nicktoon he steals EVERY scene!).

Is there going to be a rivalry or friendship between April and Angel?

I hope the Foot murder the Savate,

Veg 06-10-2013 03:54 AM

IDWs run has blown me away. I read from 1-21 then read Secret Origin. I have never been so amped for a story as I am with City Fall.

Then #22 came out. I swear reading it felt like only 5 minutes. Totally engrossing. Brilliant artwork. Best issue yet.

Vi11AiN6 06-10-2013 01:12 PM

I agree Veg. I read each issue over and over in hopes of the next issue and boom! I get it and it's read thru in minutes.

Redeemer 06-10-2013 02:05 PM

I am wonder how Karia is going to feel when Leo becomes second in command???? I am speculating she might have a big role in the arc finale

If we judge by the cover of #25, Shredder will probably let Leo go, after Kitsune restored his past life memories, and Leo will join Shredder later by his own free will, as we can see it here:

...which is probably a trick, a kind of attack that Splinter taught Leo at the begininning of City Fall.

So in nutshell, Leo will have to opportunity to get back to the lair and grab Slash's mask for whatever reason he has.
