Mike's kusarigama: let's put this to bed.
I see quite a few debates about Mike's kusarigama on this board, and it seems the general consensus is that it is a blade hidden in his nunchaku, and that somehow he has a hidden chain in there as well. Does anyone know of any reference from the show's creators that says this is true? If not, then let's settle this once and for all.
Michelangelo has two pair of nunchaku, PLUS a kusarigama. The kusarigama is its own weapon, and has never been known to be hidden in nunchaku that I know of. There is no reason at all to assume that it is part of his traditional weapons. The fact that Mike himself refers to it as a "kusarigama" seems to back this up. I think it is a cool addition to the show! What do you guys and gals think? :tgrin: |
Nope. We've seen Mikey pop the blade out of his regular nunchucks seconds before it suddenly becomes a kusarigama. Plus, if it was seperate, where does he put it away? We clearly see where everyone else have their weapons when they're not fighting, so where the hell is the long-ass chain wrapped up?
Let's just face that Mikey's Nunchucks are magical. It's the only explanation that is.... logical. |
No, the kusarigama is part of at least one of his nunchaku. It clearly transforms on more than one occasion including the first episode. How does it transform? It's realistically impossible for that to function, therefore it's cartoon physics. Everyone just needs to deal with it and move on.
|
I have almost seen every episode, and I've never seen it appear out of his nunchaku. I will re-watch the pilot and see if I can catch what you mean.
As far as "where does he put it" goes, it is in the same spot he stashes water balloons, smoke bombs, etc. It makes even less sense from a physics standpoint to say it is in his nunchaku than it is somewhere in his shell or something. If I'm wrong, I'll concede, but unless there is a creator that says otherwise it is its own weapon. If it was concealed inside his nunchaku then he would have neither nunchaku nor a kusarigama. I'll let you know! :tsmile: |
It's a cartoooooooooooooooooon.
But yeah, it transforms. They've shown it. |
After watching the first part of the pilot again, I have to humbly ask forgiveness.
Definitely transforms. :tcool: |
Someone on the 'Drome actually admitted they were wrong about something?
That... that's not right at ALL. Who the F*ck are you people anymore?!! |
The blade part is easy enough to explain- it's like a switch-blade knife. Simple enough. As for the chain, I think the chain of the nunchuck(s?) probably extends from both parts to make it longer. So part of the longer chain would be inside one half, and the rest would be in the other stick. Seems logical to me, if slightly difficult to make work. That might be why the sticks are so long. I like how each of them has an alternate weapon in the new show- it's one of the cooler aspects, to me. The only one who doesn't seem to have a different weapon is Leo. (Raph's got a pair of kamas, and Donnie's bo turns into the naginata.)
|
Leo's perfection needs no improvement, that's why. Trying to add more awesome on top of awesome is like trying to divide by zero: you just MIGHT cause a paradox that destroys the entire universe if you're not careful, so best not to even try. :tcool:
|
I want to go with a theory that his two swords are actually a Iaito and a Katana. One is deadly and other is purely show/defense.
|
Nothing about Leonardo is for show. Even non-lethal weapons become lethal weapons in his hands. I once saw him beat a Foot ninja to death with a passing cloud. But only because the guy really, really deserved it.
|
And he had a staring contest with a sun and won.:trolleye:
|
Duuuuuude, it's like you were THERE!!!

It's in the last 2 parter episode of the season.

Interesting, although, I'd prefer Raph get the Hook Swords a swing in animated form, since the basic action figure came with a pair.
Would be a dream (probably a nightmare) to animate *drool* |
No it wouldn't. Just play Sly Cooper and you get the feel of the mechanics.:D
I'm joking of course. |
Sly Cooper's controls can eat a cinnamon bun. Some of the worst I've played with.

Mike's weapon extends magically.

Your loss. |
Mikey's weapons so far, are unexplainable XD but it doesn't matter cause they are still awesome~

We should recommend that the Mythbusters investigate Mikey's transforming 'chucks :twink:

I for one LOVE the new additions and changes to the turtles weaponry and I can totally accept the cartoon physics that allow for such changes including the almost magical way that Mikey conjures a water balloon or smoke bomb. The only weapon that borhers me is the retractable blade on Donnie's bo staff. I am totally accepting of its existence, but I am put off by his lack of use for it. For instance in Metalhead he refers to his weapon as "a stupid stick" and is enraged at how useless it is against alien technology.
To the point: the toy comes with both versions and in the cartoon, it is seemingly inconsistent in whether or not he can use it, so I ask the same question that was asked about Mikey. |

hmmm he uses it when he needs too.....but not often....maybe he doesn't like to use it? XD.... so far he's used it to pry open something and slice that robot lady....he almost used it against robot baxter....but he broke it before he could XD also...his naginata has almost killed an ally twice by accidental activation of the blade XD LOL |
I found it particularly strange that Don didn't use his blade against Shredder in The Gauntlet.
|
So we all agree then?
Mikey's chucks turn into a kysarigama just as Donnie's staff turns into a Naginata. How?!?!?!? Answer: It's a ninja secret...... |

By the way, does anyone know why Raph is all geared up in the season finale, and why the others arent? |
