Whose Idea
Was it for the design of the Nick Turtles to a) have huge block like hands / feet? ... and b) three toes, when the Turtles traditionally have 2? and c) (IMO the worst adjustment) ... having the Turtles decked out in tape wrap on their ankles, feet, and hands? I think it looks horrible. It looks like they're all ready to put on boxing gloves or something. Or like they're all really injured.
|
Someone is still on the three toes thing? Man.
|
1.Yeah the blockiness I'm not crazy about but I've gotten used to it.
2.The three toes I think is great, since now all four of their limbs have the same number of digits. 3.The taping I think looks good, and yes, they are prepared to go fight, so I don't see the problem? All these are just opinions, no need to be so accusing |
Then if you don't like it don't watch it?
|
Just because it's a change, doesn't mean it's bad. Just like if there was a cure for cancer, you would want a cure, even if you always had it.
|
You do realize the white wrappings on their hands and legs are used by martial artists in the real world, right?

And turtles do have bigger feet due to using them for swimming and digging. Quote:

The wrapping is to protect and secure your limbs so nothing of yours get injured or fractured. |
1. It's cartoon like style, I like it.
2. It's revolutionary. They have same amount of fingers now. Bravo, Nick! 3. No problem there. I thought it looks great. |
I don't like the block "Mega Man" style feet either because they make weight-shifting with the feet difficult (therefore it would make running, climbing, and balancing harder because their ankles don't have a more extensive range of motion), but whatever it's Nick's style.
As for the three-toe thing. Yeah, I'll give them that that it follows the three digits with the hand, but personally I don't like it. I'm not that bothered though. As for the tape wrap on their hands and toes, yeah its used in fighting and its a bit much having them wear it all the time when they are not fighting, but it would require Nick to do tedious monitoring over when these Nick Turtles had them or not. But with this small detail, there are far other more pressing concerns than when they have and don't have tape wrap on though. |

Wow. I love the three toes now. I admit, I was a bit hesitant to accept it, but now I'm all good with. I like how the Turtles look and even the wrist and ankle wraps are pretty cool. Besides, Leo was able to conceal a knife in them, so that's a plus in that they can put more weapons on them without their enemies even knowing.

I was thinking about this the other day. The shape of their hands outstretched and lower arms combined resemble the flipper style limbs 'normal' turtles have...
From a fan art perspective it's all a buggar to draw but visually on the actual show, I think they look fine. |
XD
a)I like their big hands and feet it makes me easier to draw XD b) I never notice that kinda stuff c) I like it, it makes them look cool *_* |
a.I love the blockiness of the designs. I feel that most 3D things nowadays are focused on just trying to make things look as realistic as possible, which is boring. I welcome stylized characters in 3D works.
b.I never really cared about their feet so the change didn't bother me. c.Looks like they're going to kick ass to me. |
I honestly don't mind the feet becuase it fits nicely with the animation.
|
I'm not bothered by any of this. It uniqueness, after all.

The three toes thing makes sense. They've always had three fingers, but not three toes, so it works. The bandages is something I've gotten used to.
I'll be honest - I don't like their Next Mutation bandages. The ones wrapped around their legs looked like soccer socks. I really love the Nick's design. They're just right: not too high and not too short. I will admit, Leonardo's distracts me. He wears the brightest of the bandages. Why is that? |
I am used to their toes now, but I actually really like the toes of the small toys. I wish the animated turtles had toes like that, I dont know why they look so different between the toys and the show. I think the bandages (in addition to being a commonly used dressing in the martial arts) was an attempt to differentiate the turtles, as theyre all slightly different colours. Nick really tried hard to give each turtle his own look and the bandages are nice. They each have a distinct colour but are not matched to the mask colours which would be totally overbearing. Also it's interesting Raph has his bandages under his kneepads and none of the others do.

The "flat foot" designs are mostly easier to make toys from, and that's where that came from. I personally like it, though. I was stuck on the 3 toes thing, too... TWO YEARS AGO. Besides, it's not that big of a deal. Just get over it like everyone else. Everyone who did ended up loving the design.
|
Personally, once I realised the fact that past Turtles incarnation had THREE fingers and TWO toes, it hurt me in the childhood quite a bit.
From the Nick show on, having less toes than fingers is just unacceptable to me. As for blocks... I get where they're coming from. Making hands and feet can be an exausting task. Blocky hands and feet are easier to animate, and to be frank, I'd do the same. |
I like the three toes, and if we didn't have them, we wouldn't have Stubby, Joey Nails, and The Stinky Triplets.
|
I have no idea why something like toes is such a big deal to people. I really, really don't. The first time I saw the Nick designs pretty much the last things I noticed were their feet. I just....I don't understand what the huge problem is. They're toes. They change absolutely nothing about who the characters are or any part of the plot. Hell, in my fanart I like to draw Leo with 2 toes, Mike and Raph with 3, and Donnie with *gasp* 4 toes. Because I can. Honestly, it's pretty much the last thing people should be making a fuss about.
I also like the bandages too. It gives them a bit more detail and to me, is a nice visual cue for how athletic they are. |
And how did 2 toes ever make sense to begin with? Don't turtles in real life have the same number of toes as they do fingers anyway? I was a bit turned off by it at first but it does make more sense and it's hardly noticeable.

These are the best TMNT designs to me.
|
I've become fond of the new feet since they make the toys easier to pose.
|
Yeah, that too! My 80s turtles like to fall over at the slightest kitten whisper.

You're welcome! I'm pretty sure the phrase came from Wreck it Ralph's Sergeant Calhoun.
