Donnie's getting all the ladies on tumblr~ lol XD |
I remember Bobby saying Nick shot down the idea of IDW using Pigeon Pete so it feels like this bird mutant was the alternative.
|
Im really digging Cambells art, I didnt know how I would feel after Santolouco killing it on City fall, but from these preview pages I really like it. I read an interview post City Fall that said hints for the new mutant being introduced in this arc could be seen in City fall, anyone have any guesses of who it will be?

This is Ross' best work on the series, and this small preview already puts him just behind Dan Duncan as my favorite artist on this series so far.
I love the way he draws April, and the Turtles all look great as well. |

I don't understand those people. At least here in the TMNT fandom he gets nothing but love. |

I know everyone has their own tastes.....but still T^T he's by far my favorite artist for the turtles~ everything is so clear and simple when he draws |
So psyched for this arc (and not just because I'm from Northampton and sent Ross some pics for reference). :trazz: Santolouco is amazing, and was perfectly suited for the epicness of City Fall, but Ross is equally phenomenal, and his softer style is a great match for this story of respite and recuperation. IDW has really done a commendable job of matching artist style to story tone in this series.
|
Echoing what others have said about how fitting this style is. I'd like to also point out how great the color palette is for this setting. It's slightly softer (such as April's skin tones) and I think it gives everything a surreal almost dreamy quality. I was gonna save cash and switch back to trades, but after reading this preview Idk.

Coming from someone who really enjoys the rest of the art, I'm not a fan of the way April is drawn here. It looks like she has a doll's head... It's sort of creepy in a way. Just her hair and face aren't really clicking with me. She looks years younger than she appeared an issue ago. I'm not hating on Ross or anything I think he does a great job with the TMNT and the beautiful countryside surroundings but I'm hoping the rest of his humans don't look so odd.

Casey looks a little wonky in the panels he's in, but there's not much to go on yet. Come to think of it, given that the Leonardo Micro consisted of 90-percent identically clad ninjas, this might be the first time I've seen Ross do a lot of work with human characters. |

Dan Duncan - how his work was "scribbly" and looked like garbage. Andy Kuhn - that it was too blocky and the turtles had horse teeth. Ben Bates - his stuff was "too cartoony" and "sucks" and his drawings had no life. Mateus Santolouco - a stink was made over the stylized masks and how the turtles were so different looking from each other and even about mikey's teeth. heck, even Kevin Eastman wasn't saved from those haters. they commented how "all of his new stuff sucks". later, many of the haters would warm up to the changes of style. that's really all it takes. artist's change, styles change, EVERYTHING changes. like the collected trade says...change is constant. there is no greater truth. to all the haters, give something a chance. allow yourself some time to warm up to it before you start making ignorant comments and make yourself look like a buffoon. you wont like everything and that's cool, but you can learn that everything has it's great points. like others have commented, IDW has done a fantastic job pairing styles to the various archs of the story. we have really been blessed thus far with this series. |
I think critism is okay, and might mean there are some improvements needed on a certain area, like the way Kuhn draws the teeth of the turtles (btw, I really love Kuhn's art style), but the way those people criticize it on Comic Vine is ridicolous, they can't even tell the difference between the art the don't like, and art that is bad and a bungle. Ross is definitely not a bungler, his art is clean, the proportions are right and consistant, his style is unique, etc. They should see that, even if they hate his art style... But they really shouldn't hate it.
About the prev, I love it, can't wait to see what happens to Leo. I bet the way he treated Splinter at the end of City Fall wasn't just about the brainwashing. I mean, he has every right to hate Splinter: As the past, ha was murdered by Saki as an innocent child, and now his father and brothers left him to the Foot again at City Fall pt.1. It's obvious that Splinters intentions were never bad, but would you want to stay with your father even if you end up murdered? I'm not sure. So I'm looking forward about how Leo will explain his experiences with the Foot to his and bros, and how he will move on. Also, it's impossible to not point out that April has grown some fine booty. ;) |
I'm liking how April got the wet moon treatment with the thickness. :D

I think the style is pretty good. I think Santolouco was better for drawing April and Casey, but I like Campbell's Turtles way better. He keeps the different body shapes/sizes but doesn't make Mikey and Donnie look like wusses. I'm really excited for a mellower arc.

this whole arc seems like its going to be awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing the Turtles have some downtime. and the conclusion looks like it'll be pretty exciting!

I never buy comics (unless it's a book with a bunch of issues in it)
but I might buy these!! *_* |
Does anyone else think it's funny that

Did anybody notice Donnie has a bruise where some of the bandage covering his leg is coming undone? Also the giant overview of the far shows the various places the covers following #29 take place.

Here's my review of TMNT #29 at TMNT Entity.
Well, I'm hoping that with the book slowing down we can get to know the characters again. They were kind of getting lost in all the story during "City Fall". Alopex was the big surprise, as I wasn't anticipating seeing her so soon. Ought to be interesting to see how her relationship with the Turtles changes. I liked how Raph was the one to totally hate her guts and brought up how she lied to him about her origin in the past. Nice little pull there to make his resentment and suspicions toward her feel more legit (as well as pointing out that Leo's defense of her could just be residual Foot brainwashing). The stuff with Alopex was the most interesting bit of the issue. There was some stilted dialogue (April's mom's melodramatic speech at the end) and as much as I love Campbell, he can get maybe a little *too* cute with the characters from time to time, but all in all it was a nice change up. Dunno if the book'll be staying in Northampton for more than just the 4 issues, but I hope the characters will get to start growing again. |
http://markandpaigerodriguez.blogspo...on-part-1.html My own review. I literally turned off my comp to make sure I wouldn't get spoiled by Spengler or anyone else before I got to read this. It's about time we see April with both her parents.

I wonder if all the way back with Raphael one shot that the IDW gang knew Shredder's ritual would back fire and she would make nice with the TMNT or if it came into play later? April's father retired from StockGen on disability I see. Interesting and makes inspiration for April's interest in biology. What do her parents know of the ooze variant of mutagen that seems to be a big deal? |
It's good to have a nice "breather" episode after such a giant event. Even if we do have Alopex skulking around and Koya butting in eventually, this is destined to be much slower than the previous arc.
|
Here is a better look at Koya,Shredder's pet hawk. I did not realize the mutant was already named and was female. That helps diversify the gender of mutants more.
