Old Instagram photo reveals info about The Foot

I found an old behind the scenes Instagram photo from a Foot Soldier actor. The photo is unremarkable, but what he says in the comments reveals a little bit about this version of the Foot Clan, and maybe Shredder. I would consider it a minor spoiler.

Spoiler:
tommywalker24
This is me in a Foot Soldier/Marine style costume, ultimately not used for my character, but still pretty bad ass!

rachelallend
What are you playing in the movie!!

tommywalker24
Hey Rachel! Actually in the movie I play a ninja foot soldier who has to kill himself in front of the Shredder. in a traditional gi, not this military gear ultimately

I'm fairly certain this hasn't been posted, but forgive me if it has.

Shark_Blade 02-02-2014 07:27 PM

So we can expect gore/violence I guess. I like it. :tcool:

Cheers for sharing.

Bob 02-02-2014 07:28 PM

So ninja foot soldiers are a go?

Powder 02-02-2014 07:30 PM

Hara-Kiri in a traditional gi, huh?

So there's hope for some cultural ish after all? I'd be excited if not for all the other crap that's set my expectations low.

xChri5x 02-02-2014 07:31 PM

Did we ever get word on the rating of this movie? (Obviously it won't be R)

TrickOrTreater 02-02-2014 07:33 PM

If this actually happens in the movie and isn't cut completely, it'll probably be off-screen.

Keep it at the PG/PG-13 rating.

ska_lives 02-02-2014 07:37 PM

I really get tired of all the paramilitary crap that is being used in films today. However, some of it does look nice. Im not someone who expects that ninjas will still dress traditionally when they go out and do what they do, but another PMC style thing! At least they could have gotten rid of the bandanna thingy(i forget the name of them, so do forgive me), it really cheapens the effect.
All in all though this is an interesting insight, and the idea of traditional ritual suicide is very intriguing.

xChri5x 02-02-2014 07:38 PM

Is there even a chance we'll get pg 13? With the heavy toy connections, I'm thinking they want to have the biggest audience they can manage...

chrisdude 02-02-2014 07:43 PM

PG13 is the biggest audience, save a few "classic" family films. All the superhero movies are PG13. I can't imagine them landing anywhere else, if this movie has any kind of serious budget.

It's not a Michael Bay movie until he's able to jizz over the very concept of the military.

You should see the Foot Ninjas in their full movie costumes.

Ridiculous.

Oh I expect either a PG movie with some "intense" scenes or a PG-13 with your usual Transformers type fair.

Big, over the top action and humor only 13 year olds would find funny.

Peeing robots, racial stereotype jokes, and giant robot testicles. Similar to that.

Anton Chigurh 02-02-2014 07:47 PM

Great find for sure. Does not sound like a pg13 film :)

Bob 02-02-2014 07:52 PM

PG13 (or 12 in the UK) is now the standard. It’s the rating that studios actually want for their big budget tentpoles nowadays. PG rated big budget films (100 million dollars or more) are a dying breed. I expect TMNT will be given a PG13/12 rating.

It's still NC-17 the last time I check. The movie might have been down graded to an R rating though for broader appeal. There's still hope. I guess they saw what happened to Wolf of Wall Street.

turtlefanforever 02-02-2014 08:50 PM

He said it in such a mild manor

Reminds me of the first episode of 2k3

W-what? Turtles is an R?

TigerClaw 02-02-2014 09:10 PM

I think The movie will just be PG-13.

If this movie wants a wide audience, better go with pg-13. It doesn't sound like a pg movie anyway.

For example how under Bane's rule his version of the LOS was more mercenary with sharp shooting military types than it was ninja assassins like it was under Ra's Al Ghul.

Sounds like they're ninja foot, but they also have mercenary soldiers as well under the Shredder's control. That's actually pretty damn cool in my book. Look forward to hearing more.

...no we're pretty much just getting these Call of Duty: Black Ops Japan rejects.

We're probably not getting anything resembling Foot Clan ninjas in this movie.

The '87 cartoon were ninja robots. Not soldier robots. So it had that going for it at least.

Where did you get that we're getting two different sets of Foot Clan members?

Gee. So did I.

TrickOrTreater 02-02-2014 11:55 PM

I just realized something.

If this IS true, and it IS in the movie, and Fichtner aka Eric Sachs does order it and it's done in front of him...

We're actually going to have a weeaboo Shredder in a TMNT movie.

chrisdude 02-03-2014 04:47 AM

I wonder how this all works. Fitchner makes it sound like Eric Sachs changes into Shredder. That had me believing that Karai was in charge of The Foot before that happened. But this actor makes it sound like Shredder really is the leader of The Foot. Fitchner has also said this Shredder is unlike any other telling. (Not that I expect him to know all tellings of Shredder.) So, at this point, I'm starting to wonder if this really will end up a reincarnation deal like IDW. Or, as some suspected, Eric is adopted...

Oh it's gonna be such a bummer.

Suuuuch a bummer to see a white Shredder named Eric Sachs demand someone to perform seppuku/harakiri.

I'm cringing right now just thinking about it.

What the hell does the region Samaria to do with TMNT, and the turtles certainly do not look like people from Samaria.

Are you maybe referring to Samurai the feudal Japan's military nobility and not the mountain region of Palestine often mentioned in the Bible.

Learn to spell correctly.

Samurai

Works fine for me, must be some problems with your autocorrect.

Galactus 02-03-2014 06:03 PM

If that scene was recorded it at least sounds like the movie might not be as void in the actual ninja department as we think.

Of course even if it was there was a scene like that filmed it's no guarantee it will make it in. A similar scene with Shredder beating two Foot Ninja that had been arrested and had to be bailed was cut and the Tatsu killing one of them for failing was altered in the edit to show the guy was still alove.

Given all this talk of decoys ala Batman Begins and Iron Man 3 it's possible Sachs is the brains behind the Foot but has a decoy that wears the Shredder armor to be the "face" of the Foot until something happens to gives Sachs the ability and the means to step up and take on the mantle himself.

God I'm getting sick of that twist.

Gave it a pass in Begins because Liam Neeson made a fantastic Al Ghul.

But after seeing Ben Kingsley's Mandarin and being BLOWN AWAY by it, all for The Mandarin to actually be a rich white guy with douchey dragon tattoos really pissed me off.

It's not clever, it's not groundbreaking or shocking. It's hackneyed.

CinematicESP 02-03-2014 06:13 PM

I think Eric Sachs will be the poor unwitting reincarnation of Oroku Saki, and Karai (Shredder's heir and current leader of the Foot) will perform some ritual that brings Oroku Saki's original consciousness into Sachs' body... or something...

Which is fine, I guess. Kinda over complicates things but whatever.

But isn't the reincarnation of Oroku Saki in the IDW series a Japanese man in modern day? I'm not reading it currently because I can't afford comics right now.

Pretty nice find.... If this does happen it's tough to think that this film will be completely aimed at kids... I'm personally expecting a tone similar to the transformers franchise.

IDW Shredder was reincarnated back in the feudal period, he was put in a sleep and woke up in modern days, so therefore he still have his Oroku Saki body in modern times while the turtles and splinter do not have their human bodies.

A film aimed at 13 year old boys.

Ahh.

Just further proof that Bay and co. don't give a **** and will completely screw up a character just to cast his friend in the role.

I guess I'm confused on what expectations are... Is anyone actually expecting a movie aimed at 17 plus yr olds? What age range would you say Nolan's batman films were aimed at? A PG 13 tmnt movie should satisfy everyone.

Agreed. One key to remember is you can get away with a lot more in a PG-13 movie now than you used to.

The Wolverine is PG-13 and yet Logan stabs people, has their blood on his claws, gets shot, stabbed, etc.

The 1990 TMNT was rated PG and the thing that has always irked me about it most was that Leo was never able to actually use his weapons directly.

They can make a solid film at PG-13 as far as tone and content goes that's faithful to the original comics but still light enough for parents who grew up with the turtles to take their kiddos.
