Lotus vs Karai the debate
 

Lotus was introduced in the regular cartoon before Karai was in the comics or any of the following shows. Do you believe lotus was Karai in essence in the original cartoon or in a way a tester for her, to see how a female ninja figure could fit into the franchise. For the most part I think she had positive feedback for her limited role. I would have liked to see more of her. I do believe they are their own entities. And rightfully so because either way they are literally different people but discuss.

She would've fit in well in the Red Sky seasons for sure if thy had kept her on, good or evil. She was a less talk, more action type of person and worked like a female Casey Jones, so to speak. It's really too bad she was only used twice.

That's for sure. I could See her teaming up with the turtles for a semi permanent stay. About a season or multiple times on an off throughout.

But she's maybe more thought out in her actions.

Considering they are actually different people yes you can. That seems very shovanistic and sexist of you.

whenever I see Lotus I think "oh! a different version of Karai."

IDK there doesn't seem alot to set them apart from what I've seen, so I don't mind if they become/or became one.

Pimiko seems kinda different....except the whole Shredder's daughter thing XD (I don't know alot about her.)

They are very different characters, the biggest one is one is a member of the Foot and the other is a freelancer.

They have common traits, yes, but they are quite clearly different characters.
They have different back stories and personalities that support this. However, if one really wants to push this whole Lotus was the template for Karai concept, just ask Pete over at his blog. Maybe hit Kevin up too to get both perspectives.

I think, actually though, Karai, Lotus Blossom and Lucy Liu are all the same character.

Just think about it.

I've never seen Lucy Liu or Karai OR Lotus Blossom together in the same room...

I also think Aska from Tournament Fighters was Lotus. But Karai is also in that game so we have two Japanese ninja in the same version!

Depends on which Karai she is facing, all the various incarnation of Karai seems to be on a different power level.

I don't think they're the same character. They're two separate characters because Lotus was a robber for hire while Karai was part of the Foot.

Though actually Aska was meant to be Mitsu from TMNT III.

Which is so much different from the Foot how? I mean I do agree that they're two totally separate characters. However, they are extremely similar characters.

Lotus vs Karai? Lotus even kicked Shredder's butt in her first appearance- and he was on a level with Splinter. No question who would win that fight.

On topic, I think they are similar enough to be considered their respective universes' same character. Lotus was a freelancer, but that's really their biggest difference. Both began as orphans (at least in the 2K3, Karai was- I haven't seen anything to indicate what her origin was in Mirage) and were trained from a young age. The only real difference was that Lotus trained under multiple masters, while Karai had only one, so far as we know. Both used swords as their primary weapon, both had connections to both Shredder and Leo, (through working for or being attracted to) and they were of similar age- Nick's Karai notwithstanding.
