Levels of TMNT movie fans

Edit: Disclaimer: Don't take this seriously. Also, 4 levels of fans, just as we have 4 turtles.

There seems to be these levels:

1. Causal fan: Fan of the turtles. Remembers the 1980s cartoon and maybe the 2003 cartoon. Has not really thought about the turtles in awhile. Looks forward to the movie, because hey it is a new turtles movie!

2. Passionate turtle fan: All things turtles are just cool. A little nervous about the new movie. Has fond memories of the old movies and cartoons. Watches the new Nickelodeon series. Collects a few or many of the action figures.

3. Borderline turtle-path: Thinks about the turtles almost all the time. Really disappointed with what has been read about the new movie.

4. Full-on turtle rage: Oh my gosh, what the *$#%!? Alien turtles with lips?! And what is Megan Fox doing in MY turtle movie?! For real?! Oh man, Ninja Turtles, excuse me, it is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is a way of life, and I'm going to be a real %^&$ head to anyone who holds a different opinion than me, and take things way too seriously to the point that it is no longer being a fan, it is having a mental disorder and an obsession.

I'm in #3, Borderline turtle-path. I think about the turtles a lot and look forward to the movie, but I am concerned it will possibly be like Transformers, a movie I do NOT like!

IM pretty much in-between 2 and 3 while i have to say there are tones of things going through my mind turtle happens to be one but i cant say i think about then all the time in the past this was the case and i have always loved the turtles in every version for what they were, DO i like other more then some yes. For the longest time i love tmnt 3 Because i love Medieval Japan so seeing samurai and stuff like that was just awesome looking back people are right the costumes aren't as good but i still hold that movie close to my heart. Same goes for the Out of their shells I have so much nostalgia for that, back when i was a kid it was that that convinced be the turtles were real i believed it with all of my being. But i hold just about anything turtles with a bit of respect.

I find it so funny all the since of entitlement Fans hold these days, I guess i just remember times when you could complain and miss the movie or just shut up and watch the movie based on the thing you loved even if it wasn't what you had originally hope. All the distaste and anger over things isn't good for people, chill out relax and just go with it. If its terrible you're really not effected by it. Do terrible movies really effect there franchises NO, just let it go and chill.

TMNT is cooler than MOTU 02-22-2014 12:29 PM

A solid 2. Although the last toys I bought were the NECA ones from a few years back.

TrickOrTreater 02-22-2014 12:32 PM

I don't think about the Turtles all the time(I have other interests), but I'm somewhere between 2 and 3 leaning a little closer to three.

The Boston Ninja Turtle 02-22-2014 12:36 PM

i am def a 2

Powder 02-22-2014 12:50 PM

I thought this was gonna be a fairly amusing thread until I read #4. You clearly think that every fan who hates what they've seen is a hostile piece of sh**. Way to be objective. Go away.

Yeah, the only people who are being real **** heads to anyone are the people who are positive on the things they've seen to the people who aren't.

Gets pretty tiresome.

Bmaga123 02-22-2014 01:02 PM

I would be between a 2 and a 3 as well probably closer to 2 :tcool:

Ultimate Ninja 02-22-2014 01:13 PM

Some interesting replies. Thanks for entertaining the thoughts on this topic, or something like that. :tcool: I have been a turtles fan since the late 1980s. I have followed the cartoons, movies, and the toy lines. The only turtles related incarnations that I haven't followed are the comic books, live action Next Mutation series, and those concert type events. My favorite turtles is the 2003 era cartoon, followed by the 1980s cartoon as my second favorite. All are great though.

*reaches down and pulls the tac out of Powder's big lion paw.* I got it! You can be happy now!

I'm a four. I hate this movie.

Whatswiththeheadbands? 02-22-2014 02:18 PM

I'm probably a mixture of #2 and #3

Hmmm.... That reminds me of someone, could it be: http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/member.php?u=1438

Jester 02-22-2014 04:24 PM

So....to fight the perceived "elitism" of those who are long time members and dislike the movie, we set up a "hierarchy' for our love or hate of the new movie....

Yep, sounds about right.

Candy Kappa 02-22-2014 04:30 PM

Is there a 5th choice for those who have lost interest in the movie?

CyberCubed 02-22-2014 04:46 PM

The casuals are the worst. Casuals are always the worst.

Candy Kappa 02-22-2014 04:48 PM

I just love how you've taken a relatively harmless term and perverted it into your own usage.

It's not my term, it's Powder's. I never even knew what a casual was until Powder kept saying it every other day.

Candy Kappa 02-22-2014 04:51 PM

Yeah, no, just no. Powder used it in a whole different way then you do. You use it as a derogatory term.

Don't worry, this thread doesn't concern you. I think you're in the seventies somewhere.

hahahaha this was hilarious

Donatello19 02-22-2014 04:54 PM

I'm a number three except for the fact that "I'm disappointed with what we've seen". I'm holding all judgement until I actually see the movie.

I think every TMNT fan should be concerned. A bad movie will damage the brand. More casuals see a movie than watch the cartoons or read the comics.

Nobody knew who Iron Man was before the movies hit. Now he's insanely popular.

TMNT hasn't had a popular movie since 1991. I doubt it will change.

Sanjuro 02-22-2014 05:04 PM

None of those options describe myself.

How did TMNT (2007) do? I kind of fell out of the fandom during the time with that and the last seasons of 2K3.

2007 was irrelevant.

Did better than expected first week. Opened in a few more theaters for the second and dropped immediately.

Basically showed that the franchise is marketable, but unrealistically able to perform with an average film budget.

really nothing much. people say the show was effected but i didn't really feel that way.

Candy Kappa 02-22-2014 05:35 PM

After 2007 TMNT the show going into its last season, the designs got more akin to the movie counterpart.

Jester 02-22-2014 05:41 PM

It certainly changed the action figure style....

Blossombrooks 02-22-2014 05:42 PM

Hmm, I'm leaning towards 3 but honestly I could tick one or two of the 4 category if I let myself get carried away...which I won't. I don't wish to express a wildly critical opinion because there's this little part of me hoping all my preconceived nostrils, sorry, notions are totally unfounded and I'll still enjoy it. ;)

billbot85 02-22-2014 05:55 PM

I guess I'm about a 2 according to this scale, although I think I'm more than "worried" about the 2014 film. I'm not gonna rage about it, but I have to keep my expectations low.

The casuals made iron man a hit. If anything, the casuals will shun this movie even more than the rest of us. Cuz these sure as hell are NOT the turtles they remembered.

Not exactly instilling me with tons of confidence because despite making lots of money, most Transformers fans really don't have good things to say about the movies....

Just because the name will fill the seats doesn't mean they shouldn't at least try to make it a movie fans will actually enjoy as well.

IM not saying they wont Im just say People went a saw the movie essentially make tons of new fan selling thousands of dollars in merchandise making the rating for there running shows sky rocked and making transformers more of a well known property

Just an example. Add to that, that this could be a great movie and if it is all the more better.

imaging transformer did what it did being considered "terrible" as you say to most transformers fans then imagine if it was a good or great. film.

Warhorse 02-22-2014 08:45 PM

I don't think I'm any of these levels. I love the Turtles in general (Raphael is my favorite fictional character of all time) but there are some incarnations I love and others that were meh to me. And, there is this situation, while 2k3 is probably my favorite of the toons, I still hated Fast Forward. I'm not a particular fan of the original comics (but I do respect the stories) but I can get lost for hours in a well written fanfiction.

But, but, I thought Transformer movies were bad, but the casuals flocked to those like there was no tomorrow, while Kick Ass and Watchmen were considered good comic book movies, but the casuals could have cared less.

And yet Iron Man was both a great, faithful to the source material comic book movie and a good movie in general and everybody loved it.

So yeah. Both are very possible.

You just have to give a crap about the thing you're adapting.

This makes no sense, I thought we were talking about what appeals to the casuals and what not, and casual movie goers are not going to give a sh!t about if it's closely adapted to the comic book or not. It's a bit of a double edged sword. A movie can come out and be as faithful to the comic book as possible, but if the GA don't care for it, then the near theatrical future dies right there. But then, there is the time when the movie strays far from the adapted material (like Transformers, Man of Steel, even the Dark Knight to an extent) and the GA love it to death (much to the dismay of the hardcore comic fans who now have to suffer through movies not meant for them, but those who shell out the big bucks to fund these expensive movie projects). The movies that actually are faithful adaptations and loved by the GA are kind of rare. Heck, next to the Turtles, another story I love is the LOTR saga, but to be honest, I loved with what Peter Jackson has done with Legolas, even though he has strayed far from the source material.
