TMNT 1990 Special Edition Blu Ray Oct. 13th?

According to Amazon there is going to be:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Teenage-Muta...=ninja+turtles

Could this be the Director's Cut version we've been promised?
I was hoping for something to come out with the movie in August. Maybe since the 2014 is coming out in Oct. the UK is getting the Director's cut 1990 movie then, meaning it'll come out sooner in North America.

I would literally be very happy about this. Until further notice; I'll wait a few more months for the full details.

We were never promised a director's cut. Barron and Laird have both mentioned having an early assembly cut of the film on VHS, and the documentary director mentioned working on an extended cut. The material is obviously there, but there's never been any official word on it being released. Fingers crossed, though!

Pretty sure there was an announcement

While this idea would be awesome, the rating is pg and directors cut are useually unrated, plus the films run time is at 87 min wich is how long the normal verion is (actually its 95 min with credits). So it wont be a directors cut but hopefully it will be loaded with speacial features and deleted scenes.......8)

Kevin announced they were working on an "alternate cut" at Comikaze last year. It makes sense for it to come out around October in the UK as that is when the reboot will be showing over there. It's what happens with all reboot franchises, the inevitable bluray re release leading up to the reboot release. All the Sami Rami Spider-man films got a bluray re release with ultraviolet just the other week, preemptive of TASM 2. I work in a DVD/Bluray store so I'll look into furture listings ect when I get to work and see what I can come up with.

Product Description is confusing:

"In this live action movie-length version of the famous four, The Evil Shredder has returned to cause more mayhem and kidnaps the rat Ninja Master. But the Turtles have been armed with Professor Perry's Anti Mutant antidote and, with the help of a journalist, embark on an adventure to save the Ninja Master."

It sounds like TMNT 1 and 2 mixed together.

Ramboraph4life aka Matt 03-17-2014 05:46 PM

First, if it was a special edition, it's a Blu-ray in the UK. So not much use to most people in the US who don't own a region free Blu-ray player (and there are quite a bit of movies that get special edition blu-rays overseas but not here, for example Streets of Fire, People Under the Stairs, Hell Comes to Frogtown, etc.).

And second, the title of the thread is at least a little bit misleading since there is nothing said on that page that would indicate that it was a 'special edition' version at all. It could easily just be the Blu-ray version of what was in Germany (with the alternate ending and director's commentary), or just another barebones release like usual.

That's why I put a question mark in the title...

Well, hopefully something pops up. I don't see ANY reason why it wouldn't. Paramount, New Line, and Nickelodeon are all owned by the same company--Viacom. Synergy, baby! Wasn't TMNT one of the highest grossing independent films of the 90s? Milk that stuff, Viacom! Let us give you our money!

:o

Yep. Streets of Fire has a feature length documentary. People Under the Stairs has interviews with the director, actors, and such. Hell Comes to Frogtown has features including an interview with Roddy Piper.

But again, the blu-rays are only Region B (aka in the UK).

Yep it's on blu-ray but only overseas in the UK (it's only Region B).

And these are the features:

◾Grappling with Green Gargantuans: Wrestling icon “Rowdy” Roddy Piper speaks about his leading man turn in Hell Comes to Frogtown (22:12 in HD)
◾Amphibian Armageddon: Actor Brian Frank remembers his role as Commander Toty (14:10 in HD)
◾Creature Feature Creator: Effects wizard Steve Wang reveals the secrets behind Hell Comes to Frogtown’s mutant manifestations (15:25 in HD)
◾Extended Scene (02:31 in HD)
◾Original Trailer (01:51 in HD)
◾Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Jeff Zornow

Scavenger 03-18-2014 06:21 AM

This is a low budget company we are speaking of which has released all three movies with craptacular 1080i 50hz HDTV masters and lossy audio. Don't expect anything special.

Get it here: http://www.arrowfilms.co.uk/shop/ind...product_id=269

It's out of stock and the next batch will be the final batch they will ever get. Only 1000 are made. The region lock on this disc can be bypassed on some blu-ray players

I haven't heard anything about this release, but just to let you know.... Many studios release their titles Region Free. WB/New Line movies are pretty much all region free, so if it was a UK exclusive you could most certainly import it and it would play fine in any US/Region 1 player. Just an FYI.

That is not true to be honest. All the Blu-rays I mentioned (Streets of Fire, Hell Comes to Frogtown, People Under the Stairs) are not Region Free. They are strictly Region B aka Region 2. I've had this confirmed (because I enjoy those films, wanted to own them, but unfortunately they will not play in Blu-ray players in the US unless you have a region free Blu-ray player). Even stuff I wanted like the Blu-ray of From Dusk till Dawn overseas (which is in Germany. I wanted it since it has a brand new interview with George Clooney) will not play in a US Blu-ray player (again, unless you have a region free one).

In the info box on that Amazon/UK site, it clearly says "Region B aka Region 2". So it will not play in a US Blu-ray player. Even WB films like the 2-disc special edition of Creepshow are strictly Region 2, so not all of them are (and I understand that you said 'pretty much' and not 'every single one').

WB (which in turn is owned by Time Warner) owns New Line, not Viacom.

Actually, it's VERY true! I have thousands of movies on Blu-ray and a large portion of them are WB releases. I'd be willing to bet that all of them are Region Free. I also buy a lot of them from the UK (especially shows like Supernatural and other WB shows) because I get them cheaper from the UK than here in the US. And no, I don't own a region-free Blu-ray player. All of my players are region 1.

None of the films you mention are WB releases (I believe they are all released by companies like SECOND SIGHT or ARROW FILMS). I was referring to WB releases. Some of the films may be WB releases here in the states, but in other countries they sometimes get released by other studios. Of the films you just mentioned, I assume you are referring to the UK editions. Here's the details of each:
1)People Under the Stairs - Released by ARROW films. Arrow locks all of their movies as far as I know. In the US this would be a Universal Film, not WB.
2)Creepshow - UK version is released by a studio called Second Sight, not WB. The US version IS a WB release and IS region-free.
3)Streets of Fire - another Second Sight release. It's actually a Universal film in the US, not WB and has yet to see a Blu-ray release, only HD-DVD (which I have).
4)Hell Comes to Frogtown - Another ARROW release and as always, region LOCKED.
5)From Dusk Till Dawn - The theatrical release is a Dimension Films release. The US Blu-ray is ECHO BRIDGE which also happens to be region-free, even though it's not WB which was the company I was saying is almost always region-free. The German version you mention is released by Studio Canal, which I believe typically locks their discs.

So...none of the movies you mention are WB releases at all. I was simply stating that WB as far as I know has always been region-free. The Turtles movie is a New Line release which falls under WB and I believe also is typically region-free. I realize other companies do lock them. I was just stating that IF there was to be a UK release of the first Turtles film then it would most likely be region-free if it's released by WB/New Line.

Now there COULD be an exception to this... IF the Turtles movie is NOT released by WB overseas (instead released by another distributer such as ARROW for example), then it very well could be locked, depending on the company releasing it. Again, my comments about being region-free are only if it's actually released by WB.

Not trying to debate, just pointing out some facts. I am a Blu-ray enthusiast and have a huge collection. If you ever have questions about Blu-ray releases, check out Blu-ray.com. They are an awesome sight for news, info about discs, etc. I've been an active member there for years.

Hope this helps.

Rick

EDIT: I just looked up the TMNT 3 Film collection and it seems in the UK it was released by a company called Mediumrare. I've honestly never heard of this company and am unsure of it's use of region locking. So if there was a new release of the first movie and it came from this company (instead of WB/New Line) then I have no idea whether it would be locked or not. I know the US release of these 3 films ARE region-free. Just don't know enough about this Mediumrare company. Another interesting tidbit though... the cgi TMNT film WAS released by WB in the UK and it IS region-free!!

No, Viacom owns CBS not Time Warner. It is the world's fourth-largest media conglomerate, behind The Walt Disney Company, Time Warner and News Corporation (now 21st Century Fox).

The CW channel however is a joint venture between CBS and Time Warner. It is a joint venture between CBS Corporation, the former owners of the United Paramount Network (UPN), and Time Warner subsidiary Warner Bros. Entertainment, former majority owner of The WB Television Network. The "CW" name is derived from the first letters of the names of these corporations (CBS and Warner Bros.).

Basically, the CW channel came about when two networks merged (UPN and The WB).

Fingers crossed!

I can tell you that the "extended cut" of the movie and the original "rough cut" will never see the light of day anytime soon (anymore) - which is a shame...

And to be on topic: The UK Blu-Ray Release will only include the original version of the movie without any bonusmaterial. It's just the repackaged Disk from the UK Blu-Ray Set which included all 3 movies, after 20th Century Fox lost the license to the second and third movie in most countries (except France, were they still hold the license)

I can however say that there will be a new release of all 3 movies in Europe on Blu-Ray which will include some Bonusmaterial US Fans wanted to get their hands on for a long time. But more on that later ;)

but seriously hudemx, what are you talking about all of a sudden?what makes you so sure there won't be a rough cut or the extended cut of the first movie?any NEW info on that?or is that just your oppinion based on experience?

pannoni1 03-23-2014 11:08 AM

So far, there have been Blu-Ray releases in 2009 (25th anniversary) and 2012. Even though it will have only been two years, the presence of a new film will allow younger audiences to discover the original and keep the older fans in touch. That said, whenever I see "special edition", I EXPECT bonus features. A simple interview or two along with some vintage news footage is what I'd like to see, along with some fan interviews. An October release would mean that there would be time to enjoy it on video before the 2014 movie gets released on video around the holidays.

Well I can only say what I was told from someone who sits right at the "source"...
As far as I was told the rough cut, which Mr. Barron still holds on as a vhs copy and/or the extended cut which was hinted at at comikaze con will not see the light of day anytime soon because of "issues" which cannot be resolved right now.

I can't say more about it because if I told more about it there would be more details out there about it and automatically something else TMNT related which details shouldn't be public as of now would also be talked about and that would kinda undermine the work done by certain people in the last few...
Nope - sry can't say more...

Just look forward to something awesome being released in 2014 (or early 2015) and someting less exciting for most Fans because it will only see a release in europe. But more on the "less exciting" thing later - maybe on a seperate thread.

I would bet on it.

Just like when that DVD in Germany of the first film came out that had the 'comic book ending' and the commentary.
