Could Splinter turn out to be April's father?

So I'm sure we've all seen the teaser trailer by now. They seem to be trying harder than ever to link April to the Turtles via this new origin story, wherein Shredder and April's father created the turtles somehow.

Which honestly got me thinking... could Splinter be her dad?

I mean, think about it.

- They haven't shown him at all in this trailer, so we don't even know how he looks like or what ethnicity he'll be. I mean hey, they whitewashed Shredder, who's to say they stopped there?
- In the interview with the screenwriter, he was vague but said Splinter would be an "important component."
- If the turtles are indeed made in some lab by Shredder and Mr. O'Neil, then it's likely that Splinter would be created by the same process, using a subject nearby.
- Him and Shredder theoretically working together and knowing each other could be some kind of set up for their rivalry.
- They've cast someone as Young April, which sounds to me like there may be a scene where her father may have 'mysteriously disappeared' when she was young.

Maybe I'm just going crazy, but the more I think about this possibility, the more scarily real it feels. Perhaps they'd set this up as a twist? Give April a "I must find out what happened to my father" motivation and then reveal that it was Splinter all along?

I could be completely wrong. I kind of hope I'm completely wrong. But what do you guys think? Would they pull something like this?

TurtleTitan97 03-27-2014 08:21 PM

Honestly wouldn't be surprised. Though there'd better be a good explanation on how he knows martial arts if this actually happens.

Someone made this point to me the other day and it's just... it's absurd at first, but when you give it some thought, seems entirely likely. Even moreso when you consider that Casey is supposedly gonna be Vernon's cousin. They're trying so hard to make this really interpersonal story and it's just dreadful.

TrickOrTreater 03-27-2014 08:37 PM

Might as friggin' well.

Megan Fox is the center of this universe.

Cryomancer 03-27-2014 08:39 PM

At this point this better be the case otherwise the cast is just stupidly packed. You've got April and Vernon as the presumed leads, Sachs as the villain + (probably) Karai, the 4 TMNT + Splinter, and then also April's dad is gonna somehow get screen time in there, alongside April's boss and the foot clan members?

If he's not Splinter then we're gonna get about 10 minutes of mutants in this movie. if that's not what's already happening anyway.

Krang is her grandmother, calling it now. She's 120 year's old and walks around in a wheelchair. Probably has the voice of 87 krang.

Oddly enough, I am open to accept human mutating thing but this? This is so laughable that it hurts.

But if they where humans first wouldn't they be Teenage Mutant Ninja Humans?

PizzaFan87 03-27-2014 09:00 PM

It's possible... but that means the emotional core of the movie will be Megan Fox and a CGI rat.

Well, all things we've seen & heard indicate it's her movie anyway. Maybe it is.

She can't interact even with regular human's i am anxious to see how will he interact with CGI creations, you see little glimpse of that in the trailer. This movie will be amazing!

psychturtle 03-27-2014 09:57 PM

It makes just too much sense. She will then kiss Raphael at some point in the movie which means she just kissed her brother....

I think that Leo has more kissable lips, she will kiss Leo.

Really? Why?

Machias Banshee 03-27-2014 10:11 PM

I would be extremely unhappy if they take that route. I want Splinter to be Splinter and not April's Dad, turtles keeper, Sach's evil scientist partner, Chet and whatever else they can make him... :(

I agree. Splinter as April's dad would just be out there. I love how they're handling the whole Karai thing in 2012, but I just can't picture Splinter and April being related. I'd also be unhappy. Don't really like the idea of him being Shredder's fellow scientist either. That's making me think of the whole Alec Holland/Anton Arcane partnership. Cool in Swampthing but not in Turtles, in my opinion anyway.

psychturtle 03-27-2014 10:28 PM

It would be Luke and Leia all over again.

Just wait till shredder stalks April into a dire spot and says..."April.. I am your father...it was me all along"

1987 03-27-2014 10:44 PM

it would not surprise me one bit if this turns out to be true. michael bay has been trolling this movie from day 1 ever since he got the rights. its all about the $$ and pi$$in off fans.

if you haven't noticed XD I'm pretty open-minded to new stuff. :D
I honestly don't mind changing stuff up as long as it's done right :)

and Splinter being April's father sounds kinda cool~ that would make her sorta like a sister to the turtles *___*

Kanon 03-27-2014 10:52 PM

If Aprils father turns out to be Splinter, that would make her the sister of the turtles!

I kinda hope its just something like in the IDW comicbooks, that Splinter mutated and trashed their mutagen experiments or so.

Casey 03-27-2014 11:04 PM

Yeah. I'm weighing in that it seems like a real possibility. Despite my dislike of this trailer and everything I know of this film in general, I don't think it's the worst idea ever albeit cheap. I'd rather not see it in a big budget turtles film though. GIVE US THE TURTLES FILM WE WANT!!!

Only if she's related to them by blood. Which I doubt. People are trying to get incest with the nick toon with Leo and Karai, but, they keep forgetting that the Turtles are not biologically Splinter's sons. Just think of it as another twist in the Brady Bunch saga.

the fixer 03-28-2014 05:21 AM

April... Splinter's...daughter...

yes he sholuld be her father and sister in law but adopted and leonardo should be foster father, that would be awsum, i love changes, bring it on!! cant wait for turtlelips.:o

Leo656 03-28-2014 05:38 AM

I'm almost positive there's NO way to do that without making it f*cking stupid.

Like Abrams and his silly little, "Lex Luthor was really a Kryptonian sleeper agent sent to Earth to kill Kal-El" idea from 2003-ish. Like, yeah, it's an idea, and you could try it, but holy sh*t, how f*cking drunk were you when you thought of it, and further, why would you even assume it'd work?

"New and Different" doesn't mean "creative or inspired". There's a reason why "brainstorming" is commonly known as "throwing sh*t at the wall to see what sticks." That's really all MOST ideas are, in general. Just sh*t.

Not every idea needs to be executed, just because it never has been. Like George Carlin said, "Not every ejaculation deserves a name."

This idea, for sure, would be the most horrifying of bloody wads, for sure.

TigerClaw 03-28-2014 05:39 AM

I doubt that April's Dad becomes Splinter, The idea just sounds ridiculous, how do you explain his knowledge and expertize in martial arts?

How you explain his knowledge and expertize in martial arts when your character is a little person and all the Japanese stuff from his origin is cut?

Its possible that they are using a bit of the IDW origin, Comic Vine wrote a great article explaining why the new Origin has potential.

Leo656 03-28-2014 05:54 AM

Off topic, but... Am I the only one who finds "little person" to be more condescending than "midget"?

I've met and even worked with a few. By and large, the phrase, "I ain't a 'little person', I'm a f*cking midget!" (emphasis theirs) gets tossed around a fair bit. Dead serious, the ones I've met are MORE offended by people trying to get the term "Little People" over.

It's like "Native American". If that's the "right" term, why did they themselves start, and name, AIM, aka the "American Indian Movement"?

I'unno, I call 'em midgets, I mean, what's gonna happen, one of 'em gets angry and tries to fight me over it? That'd be super adorable.

dunno, Dwarf sounds better then Midget.

and reading upon it, midget is a description of a proportionate dwarf, so it only describes a certain type of visual appearance of Dwarfism. Midgets are proportionate like a tall person, while Dwarfs have disproportionate proportions.

And since, midget harkens back to the freak circus, it's been more or less been removed and dwarf have generally replaced midget even for proportionally short people.

But, all within context, midget is also used as a word for miniature, so midget wrestling doesn't have to be a derogatory term, it's just miniature wrestling

Turo602 03-28-2014 06:16 AM

You know things are ****ed up when something like this doesn't sound far-fetched.

Shark_Blade 03-28-2014 06:38 AM

I'm fine with it too.

Leo656 03-28-2014 06:38 AM

Candy Kappa: Well, Short-Sleeved Sampson proudly uses "It's Midget Time!" as his calling card/catch phrase, and all 3-foot-whatever of him very well could likely whup my ass if I'm being serious, so I'unno. I never wanted to argue the point with him.

Great guy, though, seriously.

Huzzah 03-28-2014 08:35 AM

I'm actually okay with Splinter as April's dad, I mean it is different, but I'll keep an open mind. Provided it is handled well, of course the martial arts mastery is a little more questionable in this case, unless they handle it all Matrix-y (computer program..."I know kung-fu."). It would set up a rivalry between Shredder (still shouldn't be white) and Splinter.

Hopefully it doesn't happen, but I'm willing to accept it...cautiously...

Personally I hope it's more of a trainer of the Foot, who realized that white Shredder has corrupted the ideals of the Foot by making it into his own personal army, and turned his back on Shredder in disgust, and that white Shredder decided to use the Foot legend of the Shredder as a means of intimidation.

I don't necessarily think its going to be the case with Splinter being April's father.

1. Sachs is probably a spy at TCRI and while hes "working" with her father he is secretly setting up his own company. The Turtles and Splinter being test subjects are the only successful batch of experiments with the Ooze. April being at TCRI on a take your daughter to work day.

2. TCRI lab probably gets raided, gets destroyed and her father is killed, Young April saves the turtles and Splinter by dropping them down a drain.

3. I think they will probably go with the IDW comic storyline where Sach's knowing all about the Turtles and Splinter wants to retrieve them so he can harness the mutagen from their blood.
