Limited edition 3D glasses for the film!

I posted this in the trailer thread but I think it is worthy of its own thread. Sorry I did a search and although news of this broke on March 25th I didn't find anyone mention it...

Two comments from me. 1) They look really cool to me 2) I hate post-converted 3D, so i'm no sure if I'll even get me a pair of these or not. Maybe if I rummage through the 3d glasses 'drop box' and find some? :)

Collider first broke the info. No word on which theaters will have these... possibly all of the ones doing 3D showings.

Cool. Hope we get these in the UK, I'd love a Mikey themed pair! Thanks for sharing, had not seen this before.

Whatswiththeheadbands? 04-22-2014 04:12 AM

If these come over here, then i am without a doubt getting these.

Candy Kappa 04-22-2014 04:37 AM

They where posted a while ago in one of the movie threads, but that's probably long gone, deleted by the mods.

The glasses do look nice, and might be the only PD movie merc I'll get.

MajorViolence 04-22-2014 05:13 AM

I never understood the appeal of these things. Seems like a complete waste of money to me. They look like they would add weight to the glasses, making them uncomfortable, and add nothing to the experience m outside of giving you a collectible to put on a shelf.

Candy Kappa 04-22-2014 06:12 AM

It looks like they strap around your head, so they aren't like regular glasses. I don't think the added weight would be a issue, the Despicable Me 2 goggles worked fine, and they look great.

Kanon 04-22-2014 06:22 AM

I, as someone who wears glasses, think they won`t fit.

It feels weird to wear 3d glasses and my normal ones and I didn`t expect that they thought of this little problem.

Even of they're held on with a strap, it still doesn't sound very comfortable, or at least less comfortable than just wearing the regular glasses. And I don't even get the point. It's something you wear, but you wear it in a dark room while everyone is looking at a screen. I don't know. It's just definitely not something that appeals to me.

Candy Kappa 04-22-2014 07:05 AM

Well, the DM2 goggles are working fine, and comes with their own small bag so they don't get dirty, if that's the case with the TMNT ones they'll be a nice replacement whenever I'm going to see a 3-D movie, a rare occurrence but it's nice to have glasses ready instead of buying the regular ones every time we forget our 3-D glasses.

Wait, you're saying your theater charges you less if you bring your own glasses? I've never seen a theater do this. They just charge extra for the tickets to 3D movies and throw in the glasses "free."

I could definitely see the appeal if you're getting charged specifically for glasses.

Candy Kappa 04-22-2014 07:23 AM

You have to buy the glasses separately, there is no requirement in my cinema about purchasing new glasses for each 3-D viewing.

raphmike 04-22-2014 10:13 AM

how much cost 3d color glasses?

The Fifth Turtle 04-22-2014 10:30 AM

Yep I need me a pair of each. Cool touch.

That's the thing that is confusing me, that your cinema is treating it as "buying" the glasses. Where I am, the glasses are cheap plastic things that you drop in a bin on your way out of the theater, so you're not really "buying" them, though it's certainly very easy to just pocket them and take them home. You can bring your own pair if you like, but it won't impact the cost of your ticket. Are you located in the US? I wonder if it's a regional thing.

Candy Kappa 04-22-2014 01:54 PM

No, I live in Norway.

We don't have a glasses bin, and I am kinda glad of that as you buy a new pair of glasses. I listen to the Major Spoilers Podcast, and they discussed 3-D and the 3-D glasses, and they mentioned a study where they had swapped samples of the glasses and actually found not only harmful bacteria on the reused glasses, but also fecal matter.. Yuck.

The Stryker 04-22-2014 02:25 PM

They're dumb and pointless but so is pretty much everything discussed on this forum.

I want them. Just because. I'm thinking they'll be AMC exclusive. That chain had the Avengers glasses too.

I think there are SOME things posted on this forum that are not dumb and pointless like...um... I don't know... The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Lol

But yeah those glasses are more for the kids. Remember, kids like the turtles too! Me at 8 years old would have loved a pair of those. Me as a grown man- well they might be a cool souvenir but they look a bit uncomfortable. I might buy a pair just to have but I'll stick with 2D or the polarize glasses for the film itself.

Nameless 04-22-2014 02:31 PM

if i can pick them up cheap and easy i'll get them.... but not spending a ton of time or money on a gimmick.

AquaParade 04-22-2014 02:43 PM

I'm going to let my excitement for something as trivial as this be proof to myself that I'm still alive.

HA HA. Well I guess you got a point there.

TheSkeletonMan939 04-22-2014 04:00 PM

They look cool, but 3D is disgusting. I can't believe people pay hundreds of dollars extra for 3D TVs.

The only 3D showing I can remember where I didn't feel like barfing the whole time was Hugo, and that was because it was very bare-bones 3D (i.e. nothing jumping out at you or trying to be impressive).

I agree. Martin Scorsese used the 3D as a tool to help tell the story and convey emotion rather than just a gimmick to get more money at the cinema. Avatar is a good example of this too but not as perfected as Hugo.

IDK they have come a long way with post converted 3d. Personally if i can i go to 3d i just feel more immersed into the movie Ive never really gotten sick or dizzy only issue i have is that my local theater does not have "screens" they have white painted walls so i can see the seams in the wall and while watching in 3d my ADHD kicks in and some time get distracted. but not very often

Shark_Blade 04-22-2014 05:29 PM

Those who wear glasses just wear contacts or do eye surgery. Problem solved for the 3d glasses.

If these get released here I'd definitely get em. :D

I did 3D conversion for several years. In the beginning especially right after Avatar came out, several studios rushed the conversion process just to capitalize on the whole 3D novelty. Around the time of Hugo, 2011-ish, 3D was getting such a bad reputation that the studios wised up. Also the digital cameras got better so now most 3D films are shot natively. If they are converted, the process has been perfected to the point where its hard to tell what has been shot and what has been converted. I think this movie was shot natively but I could be wrong. Sorry. I'm a nerd lol

I'm pretty sure it's being post-converted. I didn't see any 3D Alexa rigs in the set shots.

MajorViolence 04-23-2014 08:37 AM

If this movie were filmed in 3D they wouldn't be showing a 2D trailer in front of 3D films. It's post-converted.

from people i have talked to that saw the trailer in 3d it was in 3d???

graphic_content 04-24-2014 12:09 AM

I have no intention of seeing this movie in 3D, BUT, I will gladly buy a ticket to a 3D showing just to snag a pair of these glasses.

...and wear them to work the next day. Why? Because it's awesome.

Everyone I know said it was in 2D, and it was in 2D when I saw it, even though it was in front of a 3D showing of Cap 2.

but don't wanna pay for a ticket for this thing. I'd gladly pay the ticket price just for the glasses though so idk.

DonnyMac 04-25-2014 10:21 AM

I dislike 3D movies, but I would like these glasses. I doubt my local theatre will get them, but if they do, I will be definitely getting a pair

discordiatookie 04-25-2014 01:30 PM

I like these glasses. Pretty cool bit of merch. I'll definitely pick up if they're round my way.

I really don't mind 3D. I've seen some pretty cool films in which the 3D made them better, in my opinion. Don't think I've seen a film in 3D that wasn't filmed for it though...
