my mum calls them nuNchucks, nuMchucks would be something my grandmother would do  .
If anyone wants to know, there are three official ways to spell nunchucks: nunchuck (duh), nunchaku, and nunchaka. Since the term is of Japanese origin (I think), none of the words would have "s" on the end because there is no plural in Japanese. ex: in Japanese "hon" means "book", and it can also mean "books" at the same time, depending on the conversation depends on the interpretation. Okay, I'm going to shut up now. |

~Being A Mom, I'm happy to share this. I usually say "nunchucks" cuz it seems like the most commonly used pronunciation. Or "'chucks", if I'm writing Mikey dialogue. If I want to sound terribly correct I'll use "nunchaku."
My kids were the ones that said "numchucks"-- at least when they were very young little Ninja Turtles hurtling off the furniture whooping "COWABUNGA!" In fact, one early version came out "numbchops" which inspired one of my first TMNT cartoons. The punch line was something about a visit to the dentist and a lot of novacaine..... ~GW |
Bwahaha, the ever talented GW, finding inspiration in the most unlikely of places.
My mom used to say nuMchucks a lot. She wasn't very "up" on weapons and such, but she did think Ninja Turtles were an interesting concept. She loved the theme song. She used to make me sing it in front of people. Damn childhood trauma... |
~I'm glad to know I wasn't the only sadistic Mom around, making my children do hideously embarrassing *cute* things.....
~GW |
Word to the wise, "friend"... those "cute" moments may make for funny stories at family gatherings and nice little pictures in the photo albums, but your kids are gonna grow up harboring a deep and festering hatred inside them. All for the sake of "cute".
Don't say I didn't warn ya. :P |
~Too late. But I think they've forgiven me. Hey, these are the kids whose Mom made Ninja Turtle costumes complete with paper mache heads and shells and whose Dad made very realistic katana for them in his shop.
They did ok. Come to think of it, I think their Dad said "numchucks".... ~GW |
Bwahahaha....
I give you credit, you paid way more attention to your kids than my parents did. My parents were the type who hung out in the kitchen with all their friends and told me to go in my room and play videogames and who kept telling me all the smoke wafting through the house was from dad burning dinner. Lousy traumatic childhood.... |
~Yeah....and all I can say here -- in this Most Public Forum-- is "what doesn't kill you , makes you stronger."
But hey, I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. :twink: ~GW |

That's MY catchphrase! I call gimmick infringement! Unless you happen to be Sean O'Haire, you're stealin' my bit! |
~Oh cool. I've always wanted to Shenanigan...a-lan...a walla walla bing bang....
Ok, time to surrender to the Sandman.... ~GW...zzzzzzzzzzzzz....zz...zzzzzzzzzzzzz...... |
:-?
You sure are weird when you get tired... |
Ugh, embarassing childhood.
For Halloween, my brother wanted to go as Leonardo. The costume my mum made was pretty decent, except for the fact that there was no shell. She just strapped an ordinary pillow to his back, and drew a crude drawing of a shell on a white pillowcase. We got the weirdest looks from people. Cruel and unusual punishment. |

Ok, so the legs are a little skinny here.....too bad you can't see the carapace. That was a true labor of love. I made *three* of these darn things! ~GW |

Donna... dude I'unno, man... I can't even find the words... LoL My kids aint gettin' that kinda attention on Halloween, I tell ya that right now... "Here's yer damn costume, now go get some candy..." "What is it, Daddy?" "It's a potato sack. You're a potato. Now go." "But I don' WAN' be a potato! I wan' be Batman!" "You're a potato! Now git outta here!" At least, that's how I imagine it. |
I always thought it'd be cool to wrap kids in tin foil and send them as leftovers.

Makes you wanna go trick-or-treating this year. :D
|
Uhhhhhhh...GW, just how old are you?
|
~Well, y'know with us Faeries you just never can be sure. Certainly old enough to know better, and happily also old enough not to give a damn anymore. :D
~GW |
The suspense is killing me to the point that I will die from it....
|
The Mysterious Green Faerie hosts my fanfic, and I don't have any idea how old she is either.
