What do you do to cheer yourself up?

We all have those days - days where you just wish the world had one collective face so you could punch it, hard and repeatedly.

When you're feeling sad or angry or just fed-up in general, what do you do to make yourself feel better? What turns your frown upside-down and helps you shrug off whatever's grinding your gears?

The answers can be as silly or as serious as you like! :)

XERO 05-22-2014 09:29 PM

Sleep, play games, listen to music, make music, or just ride somewhere and clear my head.

Leo656 05-22-2014 10:21 PM

Sleep would be my first one, too. I have a theory that no matter how bad things are in your life, if you're asleep, at least you can't do anything to screw things up even worse.

Video games and the gym are good therapy, too, usually.

Peanut 05-22-2014 11:07 PM

I tend to wake up at night in the middle of an existential crisis. The only thing that helps me is turning over and kissing my fiancé. That might not sound like me, but it's true.

I also visit my little nephew when I don't feel great. He's super funny and adorable, so he always makes me feel better.

After that, I've got my dawgz. If I just feel unhappy or sorta out of it, especially after a ****** day at work, they always turn it around. No matter what we end up doing together. Playing games, watching dumb movies, talking about ridiculous things at length. Whatever.

Other than seeking comfort from the people I love most I'll do stuff in my game room. It's a more recent pick-me-up, because it has only existed for about a year, and it works great. My mind is very focused in there for whatever reason. Maybe it's just being surrounded by games. Evokes some special feelings inside.

BabyTurtles 05-22-2014 11:28 PM

large caramel frappe, with extra caramel. :D

Wingnut 05-22-2014 11:44 PM

I took up boxing a few years ago, just as a hobby obviously. Helps me refocus.

Jester 05-22-2014 11:52 PM

My kid knows how to boost my spirits...and he's not even aware of it. :P

zkarlette 05-23-2014 01:05 AM

Talk to friends, listen to music, go out somewhere fun and pretty much anything TMNT helps.

Kanon 05-23-2014 05:16 AM

Watching my favorite tv shows (tmnt is always good :D), movies or listen to cheerful music.

Whatswiththeheadbands? 05-23-2014 05:52 AM

Playing with my Dog is one thing that cheers me up.

Also, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin manage to do it as well.

electric_sheep 05-23-2014 07:12 AM

I eat and eat and eat...
That's gonna take it's toll but i'll let future me wory about that, that guy is an asshole anyway...

Powder 05-23-2014 08:13 AM

If I'm in a real funk, nothing really helps. I just have to wait it out.

A wise girl once said:
"I know I will get fat, If I eat chocolate, but I will at least die happily!"
Your future self will be happy

When everything gets crazy and it seems everyone is ignoring me and looking for excuses to take away my happiness, I listen to the Pink Floyd Division Bell album to feel better.

Same, but I also tend to listen to 'The Wall' as well. 'The Dark Side of the Moon' manages to do it as well for me

Dude, "The Wall" is great but me + bad mood + Pink Floyd = not goodness. When I'm in a funk, "Bad Days" by The Flaming Lips is the only way to go! :D That or the theme song to She-Ra.

ObiWanFan4life 05-25-2014 05:35 AM

Eat ice creamx listen to music, and watch either Frasier, Cheers or The Big Bang Theory.

Whats weird is that 'The Wall' is possibly the most depressing album ever, but somehow it cheers me up:-?

Isn't tha wierd, how when people are down that listen to depresing music...
I always play some irish music or some iron maiden, it helps....

Candy Kappa 05-25-2014 06:13 AM

Spending time with my pet turtles always cheers me up.

blindturtle02 05-25-2014 10:07 AM

I think I watch or read allot of Star Wars stuff. My brother will also call out of the clear blue, which is sort of spooky. Each of us has always known when the other is feeling down, so I've also called him and helped out when the situation was reversed.

NightwatchersOnlygirl 05-26-2014 07:00 AM

Watching Return of the Jedi cheers me up a lot

blindturtle02 05-26-2014 12:36 PM

Curling up with a good book also helps. I'll read Star Wars and believe it or not, scary stories cheer me up too. I also like playing Battlefront II. If it's a nice day outside, long walks often help.

The Green Ranger 06-08-2014 03:36 PM

I listen to soundboard prank calls on Youtube to cheer me up.

Stugehen 06-08-2014 04:33 PM

I watch this.

Drive. I love to drive. Get a session in on the heavy bag. Get on the ps3/4. Play with my pitbull. Spend time with my little boy.

Netkeeper 06-09-2014 09:59 AM

It seems like more and more often things I usually do to cheer myself up or distract myself from something tire me out, or I just plain don't want to do it. I usually turn to roleplaying when I'm upset, but right now I just can't make myself do anything more than one-liners. And I owe a bunch of paragraph replies that I just can't motivate myself to do right now. :ohwell:

Depending on the situation, I might play a video game, go talk to my mom if she's home, go for a walk, marathon a show, do some chucking [but this one works best when I'm angry instead of depressed], get into a Skype call, get stoned, spend time with my dog, or just go to sleep.

When I'm really really upset I'll just default to going to sleep for as long as I can. I've slept almost 18 hours doing that.

Pretty much the same here. Also coming on here makes me happy. :3 ^w^

BubblyShell22 06-09-2014 05:11 PM

I usually read, write fan fiction, listen to music, or watch TV to cheer up. Usually thinking about TMNT helps too. I sometimes imagine that they're with me and comforting me when I feel down. I know that sounds weird to a lot of you, but it really does help me.

I don't think that's weird at all. Turtles always cheer me up because that way I can imagine a world where everything doesn't totally suck.

Listening to music, anything to do with unicorns (I mean come on, how can unicorns NOT cheer you up?) or reading will also sometimes help - as does snuggling with my cats. Essentially, I have to do something that takes my mind off the real world - I'm big on escaping into my fantasy worlds!

RaphAndDonnie 06-09-2014 08:54 PM

I listen to a podcast or put on some feel good music.

So YOU'RE the one..... LOL, I have a customer who always orders the same exact thing!! Personally, I prefer the mocha one. But a large one always makes me start bouncing off the walls....

Yup! Agreed. I do the same thing with my own fantasy worlds. Mostly in my writing. I also love taking a relaxing bubble bath, listen to music, or have some of my favorite ice cream or another sweet treat. And who doesn't love cuddling with a lovable kitty?

Totes - when I'm sad or angry, I really just need to be left alone for a while until I feel better. I'd love to be able to do the bubble-bath thing, but alas, my teeny apartment only has a shower (with an equally teeny hot water system, drat it!).

Generally me eating when I'm upset ends in badness because I comfort-eat and then end up loathing myself. That being said, if I'm feeling blue and there's a cheesecake around - watch out, cuz that sucker's life expectancy just dropped down to zero!

HayaMika 06-09-2014 10:53 PM

Usually I draw sad things to get the feelings out, read fanfictions and look at pictures of my favorite characters in the show I'm obsessed with or like at the moment I am sad (since my main fandom can change daily...).

I also talk to friends and vent to people I know I can vent to... It helps a lot.

Netkeeper 06-10-2014 04:30 PM

I forgot to mention that if I have the ability to, buying something, even a little something, usually cheers me up. Getting a package in the mail [which happened today!] makes my day.

Candy Kappa 06-10-2014 04:35 PM

If I'm alone I cheer myself up with drawing while listening to music or podcasts (Major Spoilers Podcasts to be exact), I usually draw Dungeons & Dragons or TMNT related stuff.

arkangel 06-10-2014 05:13 PM

Escapism works for me. Reading sci-fi, doing a tv series marathon, or customizing a toy. Right now, I'm in the middle of the Birds of Prey on DVD. Cheesy acting and tons of eye candy relaxes everyone.

Oh and there's always booze.

Me too - online shopping is always good. :)

MsMarvelDuckie 06-10-2014 10:08 PM

Yeah, buying a little something for myself sometimes helps, too. And did someone mention cheesecake?! I'd have to fight you for it, penny, LOL! Especially if it has blackberries on it. They are my Kryptonite....
