Still no Blu-Ray? Come on Nick.

Chaotix12345 07-08-2014 06:32 PM

And they're the exact same discs from the individual releases, so not really missing out on a lot by giving this a skip. Cool for the peeps who wanted the whole shebang in one purchase, though. Wonder what kind of additional online bonus stuff they have in mind...

Nick you have to do two things:

- Release the Nick show on blu-ray

- Release the 4kids series in a complete series or season sets

Only then will we be satisfied.

Bry 07-08-2014 06:39 PM

I've already got the original releases and this is... just those same releases packaged together, so there's no point in picking this up. The cover art is also pretty weak (Seriously - why is "The Beginning" so much bigger than the actual show logo? Weird choice, guys!).

I will gladly double-dip if we get a decent Blu-ray set, though. And I'm kind of amazed that they're finally putting out a full season set but they're specifically not releasing it on Blu-ray. You're leaving money on the table, Nickelodeon!

Powder 07-08-2014 06:47 PM

It's handy having all your discs together but this is not worth double dipping for.

Roseangelo 07-08-2014 07:02 PM

Hurray! I was waiting to buy all of these until there was a complete set.

CyberCubed 07-08-2014 07:03 PM

I think people buying this set will be the people complaining in another few months when a blu-ray set is announced and claim how they don't want to, "triple dip."

I'm certain this series will get a blu-ray release eventually.

Yes! So glad I didn't but the individual releases now. Can't wait to get this.

Nick has been on record pretty much since they bought the franchise that the only way you'll get what you want is if:
A. The new movie does well
B. You invest in the releases they put out initially

You want the show in HD, then buy it. It's available. ITunes has them, Amazon has them. There's other ways to get what you want. There is Hi-Def beyond Blu-Ray folks.

You don't want to invest in what you want, when it's available to you? Fine, keep whining. See how far that gets ya.

Plant your feet in the ground and hurt your own cause because it's not "exactly" how you want it, I'll laugh my head off when it never comes.

Where has a Nick gone "on record" about this?

Some people still like having physical copies of TV series and movies.

Just because one invests in something, doesn't mean that it'll lead to 'greater' things.

For example, I invested in all of those '3 to 4 episodes per disc' DVD's that 4kids put out back in the day. Even the 'single episode/Michelangelo-Christmas' DVD.

Why? Because in hope that me 'investing my money' into all of that would maybe lead to a better/complete set down the road.

Which didn't happen.

So, what did I get for 'doing the right thing' and investing all of my money into it (Other than being one of the few that actually owns most of that series on physical copies that's not DVD-R's)?

*A last season that never came out in the US, thus I have to own a 'DVD-R' of it along with the ones I DID buy. And sorry, I couldn't afford (at the time) getting that last season from Australia.

*Owning a series which is out of order.

If I knew that, I could have just waited, saved my money, and bought DVD-R's of the whole series off of ioffer (which at least the episodes would be in the correct Order) or something.

Why would I buy a season set if I already have them? I mean, someone is really going to pay that money to save maybe a few inches of space on your shelf?

C'mon now.

I first heard the news from this video which is from Zaranyzerak when he commented on the news that Michael Bay had made the Turtles "aliens" for the movie. Some people on here have probably seen his Turtles videos, but he is also an insider who I am personally friends with, is also good friends with Brian Ward (Creator of "Shout Factory) and gets a lot of information from behind the scenes.

Go right to 11:25 for the bit. *WARNING: EXPLICT LANGUAGE* "Watch at your own risk"

Oh, come on, guys. We're finally getting a full season set! Blu-ray would be nice, but it's not entirely necessary.
However, I do agree they still need to put the 2003 show out on DVD. THE RIGHT WAY, this time.
And that cover looks totally... with lack of a better word... badass.

 Me too !!
I "almost" broke down and picked them up at Walmart last week. After seeing a 4th mini set come out, I was starting to think it wasn't going to happen. I could care less about Blue-Ray when it comes to cartoons. Epic sci-fi or fantasy mega blockbuster like Star Wars, Star Trek, or LOTR sure. But for this, I'm more than satisfied with a DVD set. :)

It is if they want my money. The show is broadcast in 1080i ... the blu-ray is 1080p which has even better picture quality than the broadcast. Why would I spend my money on something that will look terrible on my TV? They make the show in HD, put it out in HD... why is this so difficult a concept? And I don't want a downloaded iTunes/Amazon/Google file ... I want a physical copy.

Honestly, I don't know anyone that still has a SD TV and just a regular DVD player ... this isn't the 90s or the 2000s anymore, lol. Asking me to buy a DVD is like asking DVD lovers to buy it on VHS. Seriously.

Okay. I'll give you that but they apparently didn't listen to those of us that wanted a blu-ray set. That's what I was getting at.

IMJ 07-08-2014 10:49 PM

Wasn't this show rendered in high def animation? It's ridiculous that there is no amazing blu ray transfer. Nick is going for the triple dip here - sucker in fans with the single DVD releases, then do this nonsense season 1 release (with TEN, count 'em TEN minutes of online only footage hahaha) and then eventually let go with a Blu Ray that will probably be missing something.

Guys, don't play to the collector addictions and buy this set. Rewarding Nick with a DVD purchase does not encourage a Blu Ray release. Make them do it right and only buy the product that's worth it to you. That's how the free market needs to work to command to these organizations what we want.

Buying this dangling worm of a set is just as bad as re-buying Playmates "repaints" figures.

Watching DVDs doesn't mean you have an old SD TV. I have an HD TV and am perfectly content with DVD quality.

Zulithe 07-08-2014 10:54 PM

Sticking to my iTunes season subscriptions (1080p!) until blu-ray happens... if it never happens, then they'll never get me to double dip.

Not having blu-ray in 2014 is ridiculous. how many households don't have a blu-ray player of SOME kind? PS3, PS4, XBox One... they're everywhere.

Hey, easy man.
I have a great tv but just a regular sony dvd player and my last game machine was a sega genesis. Doesn't make me ridiculous.
I do agree with you on the double dip thing, but that's unfortunately the way of marketing. You want to see monstrous double dipping, just look at IDW. How many formats and collections do you need for the same comics.
Damn... I gotta buy a BluRay since you made me feel old.

Autbot_Benz 07-08-2014 11:16 PM

I still watch DVD's Blu Ray are not worth it wow so you get crisper picture and better sound quality big deal.

I won't upgrade to Blu Ray as long as DVD's exist

It was a couple of years ago when I went to a Best Buy store, and one of the people there told me that they're actually selling more DVDs than Blu-rays. I'm not sure how things might be now, but I once saw an article that says Blu-ray is losing out to digital downloads now.

http://www.theverge.com/2014/5/1/567...irment-charges

I may have gone primarily Blu-ray last year, but I won't knock those who don't have the means to play them.

For the record, I might have DVR, but when I want to record something to keep for permanent, I still have to work with a VCR.

Can't believe the DVD loyalty that is still going on in this day and age...

Streaming or digital downloads is a different matter. The convenience factor wins out over quality and the other benefits of having a hard copy like a blu-ray. You can't compare them 1:1

With dvd and blu-ray though you definitely can. There are people who like to say that because it's animation the quality difference is not that different or major.

Well see for yourself, just one of many, many comparisons you can find online:

http://www.pixartalk.com/2009/06/the...ce-with-pixar/

Now WHY would you pick dvd over blu-ray knowing this to be true... unless cost is the only factor that matters to you? Blu-Ray players are not expensive... and if you have a game system such as PS3/PS4/XBox One then you already have one anyway.

if you don't want blu-ray at least understand that it does have strong merits over dvd.

Doesn't matter that digital downloads and streaming have more market share than blu-ray. hard copies are not going anywhere because they have utility that streaming can't replace. There's also the matter of 4K and 8K slowly starting to come to homes... you start to run into technical limitations of being able to download/store/stream such huge files... hard copies are going to remain the answer.

Wentos 07-09-2014 02:07 AM

I've been eagerly awaiting my chance to throw some money at this series, but I just can't see myself spending money on standard definition DVDs. Legend of Korra has blu-ray season sets. Spectacular Spider-Man got a blu-ray set. Green Lantern The Animated Series and Batman Brave and the Bold have gotten blu-ray sets. There's really no excuse for DVD-only anymore.

I'm really hoping Nick eventually gets their act together and releases the blu-ray sets a lot of fans are holding out for.

High five to my partner in crime!

Zulithe - Was talking to my 14 year old neice this evening and apparently she agrees that it's ridiculous to not have a blu-ray in 2014, but she went too far when she said DVD quality is total crap and that I probably can't tell the difference because my eyes are older. She's such a brat..

I completely agree that there is an obvious quality difference between the 2 formats. That's a no brainer. It's more a matter of how discerning your preference/taste is. For me, I like to see effects laden blockbusters in the theatre to get the full experience, but for my toons, I'm seriously ok with DVD.
Now get off my lawn! :x

DVD 07-09-2014 03:32 AM

The amount of people that don't have BD is astounding.
I asked my Computer Science class who owned a BD player, as I had some spares to give away. Out of 17, only one had one.
They all maintained there was no difference.. So, experiment time.
I played the BD of The Matrix into two HD 42" monitors I have set up. I set one to standard def playback and the other to 1080p. I had everyone sit around the two monitors. Within 5 minutes, everyone had shuffled their chairs around to the 1080p playback. There IS a difference.

That said, and back on topic, I'll stick with my DVD copies for now. Played though a BD up scaling, these do like good enough for now.

And, that said.... If I see the series issued on BD, I'm all over it !!!

Kendamu 07-09-2014 04:13 AM

I haven't been buying the individual releases. I just grab the episodes on Amazon Instant Video. If a Blu-ray version is announced, I'll get it.

Oh I agree that blu-ray is better visual quality than dvd... it just doesn't really bother me that much (I know, I'm a total pleb). Will I get a blu-ray one day? Sure, when my current dvd player dies. But until then, dvd-quality has worked for me for years; waiting a few more until the inevitable upgrade won't hurt me. :)

There's still loyalty for VHS even nowadays, and there are such people who are under 40. I'm under 40 as well, and I guess there's still something nice about using a VCR.

There's some obscure material that has been on VHS that hasn't even made it to DVD. A lot of movies still have yet to go to Blu-ray, but I wonder if Blu-ray will even last long enough for them to.

Except for maybe the cost of putting things out on Blu-ray compared to DVD.

When the first season of 2 Broke Girls was released on home video, it was put out on both formats. Somehow, the Blu-ray version didn't sell as well. That's why the second and third seasons are DVD-only.

I also like having material on Blu-ray since I don't have to make adjustments with those. My Blu-ray player is supposed to automatically set DVDs to the right visual ratio, but some time after, I found that there were parts of the picture missing. So I had to make even more adjustments to make sure I'd get the whole picture. It's not a big deal with DVDs that present something in 4:3, however. Those are easy.

I never look back on dvds, vcds, vhs after I experienced bluray/HD.

I've got a few VHS releases that were from as late as the third season. There was two releases with the alien invasion episodes. And there was a release with the Ultimate Drako episodes.

I was pretty disappointed when I went to tvshowsondvd.com this morning and saw "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 4-DVD Set of 'The Complete First Season: The Beginning'". I tought to myself "THE 4KIDS SERIES IS GETTING RERELEASED!"
