William Fichtner Not Playing Shredder

http://screenrant.com/teenage-mutant...otage-preview/

Quote:

According to Paramount and producer Andrew Form, William Fichtner is not playing Shredder. He’s playing Eric Sachs, who works for Shredder, but Shredder, who will be wearing a mechanized samurai suit in the film, is an entirely different character. There is some evidence to back this up – in the most recent trailer, Fichtner says to a shadowy figure, “We’re taking your armor to the next level.” It should be noted, however, that Fichtner himself told the press last year that he was playing Shredder, so perhaps there’s more to this story.

So no more "white washed" Shredder, or whatever the hell some people ranted before. :D

TheSkeletonMan939 07-16-2014 07:59 AM

Man, I don't know what in the world is going on with this movie. I bet at some point Sachs was supposed to be the Shredder, but they changed it.

At least they wised up.

Can you stow the attitude, please? "William Fichtner is the Shredder" is exactly how it was presented to the general public by the actor himself, and the studio didn't correct it. The name Eric Sachs is even specifically an American sound-alike of Oroku Saki. People had every reason to take these details at face value, so the "nyah nyah, told you so" routine is uncalled for.

That said, it remains to be seen how this will pan out. "Sachs is the Shredder" could have been misdirection in the first place, or what the producer said here could be the misdirection as far as we know. No way to know for sure at this point.

Le Glorieux Tortue 07-16-2014 08:06 AM

So we see now that Oroku Saki just has a quirky thing where he only hires people with similar names to his

Derek Taki next in line!

The Boston Ninja Turtle 07-16-2014 08:13 AM

hmmm not buying it...at least not in the sense that this was the plan all along...and Bry is right we were told..William was shredder...by him and others

now movie worries now are what kind of jumbled mess will this be to try to please everyone

agreed with bry..you didnt need the snark, and youve been doing it a while people have different tastes it happens people are allowed to complain

NinjaPug 07-16-2014 08:15 AM

He may not be the original Shredder in this but there's no way he doesn't end up wearing the Shredder armor by the end of the film. I still wish we were getting an adaptation closer to Mirage but it's not necessarily a bad idea.

Xiewin 07-16-2014 08:15 AM

Nothing about this film makes sense...

MrTMNT2012 07-16-2014 08:17 AM

It was a bit stupid to pull a Mandarin on such an iconic character like Shredder, but hey, whatever shuts up the haters.

Matt2310 07-16-2014 08:18 AM

im still hoping sachs is either krang or chrell... im 100% OK with that

Shark_Blade 07-16-2014 08:21 AM

People need to chill. It's those that were fooled that are offended I reckon.

Who cares, we're here to discuss this bit of info. :tcool: I bet he's the Kraang. :D

I don't think it's "fool" that is the right word

If an actor is saying he or she is playing a character you do trust what they say and not automatically connect it to being a ruse

Do not lie, you yourself thought this was the case too, at least before that "armor to next level" trailer

terrorblade 07-16-2014 08:28 AM

If anyone watched Spectacular Spider-man, they did the same thing with Green Goblin. Even though everyone knows Norman Osborn is the Green Goblin the show will really convince you that it was Harry under the mask. Maybe they were trying to pull the same thing but didn't expect that the TMNT fans don't want to be played so they start showing hints of Oroku Saki or maybe they just changed it altogether. They probably learned their lesson now: No twist, No surprises = No fanboy rage( or maybe not, should have been no noses too, am I right?)

People would be chill if you didn't antagonize them in the first place. You say stuff like "whatever the hell some people ranted before" and people are gonna get defensive. Don't shoot snark at people if you don't want them shooting back.

And it's not being "fooled" if you take information officially presented to you at face value. I get that sometimes the powers that be have to lie to keep a surprise, but you can't act like folks are unreasonable for reporting on and responding to that official information for what it is. They gave them the exact information they intended to.

Here's a hypothetical, though: what if the producer's comments were a red herring and Fichtner either is or becomes the Shredder in the movie? Because that's totally possible.

plastroncafe 07-16-2014 08:36 AM

I've got my money down on Fichtner not being Shredder like Neeson wasn't Ras al Ghul.

Yup.

*snore*... I was fooled into thinking he's the Shredder at one point too but you don't see me get offended. Some haters honestly..

Get on topic people, Fichtner is not playing Shredder.

Galactus 07-16-2014 08:46 AM

Well in that case thank you for lying to us.

Although I have a suspicion that when Fichtner said it he was being honest as far as he knew at the time. I don't blame him but the people making the movie for creating this mess.

Shark_Blade 07-16-2014 08:49 AM

Yeah his early interview video back then when he got casted as Shredder was pretty underwhelming, he didn't elaborate much of why he wanted to play Shredder and such.

Now thinking back, I reckon he's keeping inside details from spoiling us heh. Sneaky.

HeroTurtlesFan 07-16-2014 08:52 AM

Ha ha.

I suspected they were doing a "R'as Al Ghul / Henri Ducard" -type thing, but fans will go OTT on the barest bones of information.

The Turtle Terminator 07-16-2014 09:04 AM

Yes. Yes. YES!:D

Sumac 07-16-2014 09:09 AM

Ha-ha-ha. What the heck?
Couple of months ago they've said Fichtner is Shredder and he himself have said it. Now they seemingly say that he is not. It seems I was right and PD's marketing definitely led by monkeys, who couldn't make up their minds. This is just a mess.
I find it funny, how "stoked" persons try to shoulder the blame on everyone else, but PD for this misinformation. Pathetic.

Shark_Blade 07-16-2014 09:17 AM

Found the video from last year. This was when he was first announced to "play as Shredder" or so we/interviewer thought. :D

See how "enthusiastic" he was lol. Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know..

My are you insufferable. People were offended Fichtner was playing the Shredder because the Shredder is usually [but not always] Oroku Saki, who is Japanese, and it's disrespectful to strip a character of minority status; the whitewashing declaration was further supported by the name Eric Sachs, which as mentioned upthread, is very much a sound-alike name. This isn't difficult to understand. All of this is on topic, you just need to stop being a baby. Or stop baiting. Pick one.

That said, it sounds like if Fichtner really isn't playing the Shredder, this was another last-second change to the film, which is only going to hurt it when we're this close to release. I might just have to go see it myself and laugh at the inevitable plot holes a change like this is going to cause.

I know who Saki is and his origin. Stop being a baby yourself ranting on nonsense and keep on topic.

William Fichtner is the topic, focus!

I say they should have stuck to their guns, and let the 'reveal' happen when people see the movie in August.

I wonder if it was fan response that drove their decision to reveal it early, but hey, whatever, Im seeing this film, they already have my vote. :D

Shark_Blade 07-16-2014 09:37 AM

Maybe that explains the later reshoots? But I doubt it, who knows. :D

Nah, Those reshoots were mostly for Megan Fox, If I recall, They shot scenes after her pregnancy. Maybe the film wasn't fully completed when Megan Fox was fully pregnant, and they waited until she had her child so that they can complete the scenes they needed.

The irony? You saying he's not playing the Shredder is based on you taking official information at face value... which is the same thing everyone else did when you smugly said they were "fooled".

But whatever, duder. That kind of jerky attitude is what keeps my ignore list full and healthy. :trolleye:

That's assuming that Saki was going to be Shredder all along. I'm not so sure that's the case.

Mr.Green 07-16-2014 10:00 AM

If this is true and William is NOT playing the Shredder, then most of my concerns will be gone.

i really don't think marketing had anything at all to do with this specific sitch. i think what happened was that fichtner said that because maybe it was true at the time. But, due to the cluster-eff that this movie has sort of been all along, i also suspect that maybe all the backlash, really freaked some of the film-makers out and some of the creative choices they originally went with were changed in scurry and flurry of trying to save what the internet was saying was jacked up.

some of the stuff has been tweaked a little...the brothers faces, the script, etc...but considering there were reshoots that suspiciously seem were done to insert oroku saki as shredder, it's obvious not all the back treading and re-figuring stuff worked out as smoothly as they'd hoped.

at least not to the internet.

i wouldn't be at all surprised if this is the film-makers whiting out and re-doing what was originally intended. it certainly seems the non-coinciding stories about who fichtner is playing is a direct result of that.

i just hope that even with all the mix ups, hiccups, do-overs and whatnot that it doesn't end up being an incoherent mess.

(cue everyone saying it's too late to hope for that... :trolleye: )

Hey, golden rule buddy.

Andrew NDB 07-16-2014 10:11 AM

We know that Sachs -- at some point -- is the Shredder. We also know that over the course of the movie "the Shredder goes through a lot of changes." Perhaps it's Saki, and then it's Sachs, and then it turns out he's had an Utrom named Krang in his belly the whole time.

And we also know that Fichtner has a 3 picture deal.

The Boston Ninja Turtle 07-16-2014 10:21 AM

so now this makes me wonder..those 3 films Fichtner was signed on for..is that still happening

if he was never meant to be the shredder why sign him on for 3?

will he die at the end of the movie or in the middle?

is he being bought out now?

is this another case of Splinter and Leo Recast under the actors reptilian noses?

seriously is not one Behind the scenes person asking these questions..i don't mean to be a jerk but this just leads to a big mess in the end

this is why movies need to not rush and make sure they are actually making a movie they want, with every scenario written down just incase something happens..and even if fan boys rage who cares stick to your plan..sure i am on the leery side but i am more disappointed that this studio is back tracking than moving forward

Vulkanthekrusader 07-16-2014 10:21 AM

He might be the Baxter Stockman of the movie or be his boss and he turns into a mutant

It seems like they're drawing from the IDW series a bit. Saki and Sachs could have a similar working relationship to Krang and Stockman from those books.

then why the run around fiasco...we were told he was shredder and that he signed on for 3 films, he was meant to be a big role

if he was meant to be baxter why not just say that...people wouldve been stoked to actually get baxter

...again i present my questions

this all sounds like a last minute rewrite because "oops we done fudged up"

again im sorry but i dont buy the "This was the plan all along"

Xiewin 07-16-2014 10:43 AM

This movie is gonna be nothing but a big pile of mess..If those rushed reshoots are true, then there's nothing more to say about this film.

Jester 07-16-2014 10:56 AM

Shark_Blade knock of the snark and attacks.... and leery people stop swallowing the bait....

Candy Kappa 07-16-2014 10:59 AM

Being signed for more movies, don't necessarily mean they will be in more movies. It's just keeping dibs in the actor in case they want her or him in future movies.

That said, I would be pleased if Shredder turns out not to be Sachs, and they didn't whitewash Saki, but, why have Eric Sachs' name so similar to Saki? Seems a bit iffy.
