Variety reports that following its huge opening in North America this weekend, Paramount Pictures are celebrating the occasion with the announcement of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel. It will be released on June 3rd, 2016, and while there's currently no word on whether director Jonathan Liebesman will return, Michael Bay is set to return as producer and screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec are set to write.

Radical Raph 08-10-2014 10:30 AM

Well that's depressing.

Rooish 08-10-2014 10:34 AM

So as fans we were able to exercise some influence getting a Japanese Shredder and a non alien origin. For the sequel, let's push for some character development, a Hamato Yoshi/Oroku Saki link, and maybe Casey Jones.

Tora 08-10-2014 10:35 AM

Great News!

I hope that they can make up for some of their mistakes with this sequel and we get Bebop and Rocksteady!

bmxbandit 08-10-2014 10:35 AM

that was fast!

You may have to explain to Mr. Bay who those characters are.

deadsy333 08-10-2014 10:36 AM

If this holds up, then I am beyond pumped right now!

Shark_Blade 08-10-2014 10:38 AM

I hope Pete Ploszek gets to voice Leo, really was unjust to have him mocap only. I hope he's still interested too.

Zulithe 08-10-2014 10:38 AM

drewizzle88 08-10-2014 10:39 AM

I'm happy to hear that, glad the current one is off to a good start, far from perfect but it was enjoyable to watch.

pdizzle 08-10-2014 10:39 AM

I don't want to start a war, or off subject but Knox was excellent Leo any body else think he kinda sounds like matthew mcconaughey.

Vicky82 08-10-2014 10:44 AM

I went to look up what other movies are out in June 2016

Quote:

so far

June 3rd
Sausage Party
TMNT

June 10th
Uncharted

June 17th
Finding Dory
How to Train your Dragon 3
(I assume 1 of these movies will change date)

June 24th
The Mummy
I Just hope it's June 3rd for the UK too.

Bry 08-10-2014 10:47 AM

Oof. Well, it was pretty much inevitable at this point. You can count me out, but... whatever. Is what it is.

Worth noting: this will be coming out the week after X-Men: Apocalypse and three weeks after Captain America 3. And a good few sure-to-be-huge kids' movies are gonna follow it within a few weeks. So it may have a lot more competition than the first one.

93.7 mil in august against all odds. I think it will hold its own:D

Vicky82 08-10-2014 10:51 AM

I think June 3rd might be a mistake because guess what movie is out on May 27th in the US.

Spoiler:
X-Men: Apocalypse

Nameless 08-10-2014 10:53 AM

this just made my day...

MrTMNT2012 08-10-2014 10:53 AM

Can't wait!

Loved the first one, hoping for more Turtles in the sequel cause they were perfect. :D

Tazi 08-10-2014 10:57 AM

great, so maybe next time we gonna see robot casey jones or all four turtles in glasses.

(sarcasm)

pdizzle 08-10-2014 10:59 AM

:lol::lol:
let the hate begin.....

Tazi 08-10-2014 11:01 AM

tho, there's still a chance for they using an other guy as a character designer...

Does that mean TMNT II is already your new favorite Turtles movie?

If they focus on the Turtles more then it probably would be.

Bob 08-10-2014 11:07 AM

Haha, this is priceless, considering what this place has been like the last couple of months.

In its opening weekend, X-Men: Days of Future Past made $90,823,660 domestic and $172,042,661 foreign. $262,866,321 worldwide total.

GotG's worldwide opening weekend was $161.7m, for some comparison.

An earlier summer date might help TMNT2's box office, but the competition will also be more fierce.

jenna 08-10-2014 11:14 AM

This is great news. :D

Oh, Roo. I have missed you and your lovely wisdom. :)

Rooish 08-10-2014 11:15 AM

Okay firstly, this sequel will likely be postponed in development like the first one was. Second, I don't really know how dates are chosen for film releases, but why don't they just see what else is coming out, gauge the competition, and adjust accordingly?

Also, maybe the people who hated this film can just give it a rest now. There is obviously nothing to hope for in a sequel or you, so just go back to your Nick forums or Comic forums or whatever.

JTH 08-10-2014 11:16 AM

There's still telling what the movie makes its second weekend with Expendables III coming out (Those movies didn't bring big money in US per say, but all raked big worldwide), and the fact that the fandom of the franchise was to say the least...divided.

The Stryker 08-10-2014 11:19 AM

:)

NinjaPug 08-10-2014 11:22 AM

I guess they picked the date just incase someone else picks it for there movie. Looking at movies in June 2016 there are no big movies like from DC or Marvel but X-Men Apocalypse is out on May 27th.

It could be postponed but I find that when they make sequels they seem to run more smoothly due to they now know what the CGI and designs are going to be like but they probably have some minor changes.

bloodstainedwings 08-10-2014 11:27 AM

I am happy this is happening but at the same time I don't understand as this movie has not made a profit and wont do so until its made more then $250 Million at the box office. I thought movies only got sequels if they make they make the studios enough profit?.

Does anyone know why a movie needs to make twice its budget to break even? In the rest of the world to break even you only need to earn back the money you spent, not twice the amount you spent. It does not make logical sense anyone care to explain?

Keep in mind, along with Cap 3, the Batman vs. Superman movie is going to fall in a spot somewhere in Summer 2016. Yet another bullet to dodge.

I think it's scheduled for March right now, but if there are any delays, I think June 10th is prime real estate. Release dates get adjusted fairly regularly, so it;s way too early to assume how it'll shake out.

Electric 08-10-2014 11:39 AM

i had no doubt they wanted to make a sequel, just depended on how much money this one made. (the mutagen on shredders finger, stockman for 2 seconds, the turtlevan just being made at the end)

while i personally enjoyed this movie, i see where others are coming from. however, i honestly believe the second one will be better:

this movie obviously had multiple changes due to fan reactions, the second one i think will know what we want and has already established they arent aliens, shredder isnt white etc.

weve got their basic introductions and backstory. while the second one can dive deeper into them, we wont have to deal with first meetings and can get right to the turtles, leaving more time for the plot

really high hopes for the second one. i can definitely see casey being addedd, easily, making his backstory come from the events of the first movie. however i dont really see bebop and rocksteady, as the cannister of mutagen that fell with shredder was supposedly the only one. but i could see them going with a villain like bishop, which would be incredible to see in a movie, and have him and the government start hunting the turtles

ctt4lfecw 08-10-2014 11:40 AM

Count me the **** out.
