Is Raph the main hero? ***Movie Spoilers obviously***

Eventhough Leo is the leader but they made Leo the weakest in the movie.

Leo was the first to be captured. Leo was always in trouble and hurt and the others gotta go save him (example, during the snow chase scene).

Raph on the other hand, is the only turtle not to be captured.
Has to go save the other turtles.
More screen time with Vern + April during the rescue.
Raph delivered the finishing blow to Shredder in buck buck.

and finally, Raph is the only turtle to get a Turtle in Disguise figure.

"Raphael--he's the leader of the group..."
-Partners in Kryme (1990)

Coola Yagami 08-10-2014 11:59 PM

I just remembered!!! That whole bit with Raph being in the trenchcoat was never in the movie!!!

ScrewtheMirageTMNT 08-11-2014 12:01 AM

April is the real hero of the movie.

Midnight Mutant 08-11-2014 12:08 AM

I think this was going to heavily be a Raph based movie originally. I think due to the re-writes and time, it's a lot less of a Raph based movie than I thought it would be. That's probably why he seems to have more focus.

However, I think it's more of an April movie than a Raph movie. Either it was that way originally, focused around Raph and April working together to get his brothers back or it was a last minute panic move to put a celeb name front and center for a success back up plan.

ryukenden 08-11-2014 12:14 AM

Raph didn't exactly have as much screen time as he did in the 1990 and the '07 movie. The Turtles actually spent more time together than independently. April was the one with the most screen time.

Werecat 08-11-2014 12:18 AM

Actually I doubt this is a Raph movie.
-The captured turtles saved themselves with the help of April.
-Leo saved April and Vern.

Raph didn't really contribute that much through out the film. Nor did Raph get more film time then the other turtles. Leo got an adequate amount of film time. Most of the film just focused on April.

Coola Yagami 08-11-2014 12:19 AM

Yep... just go right ahead and ignore my post everybody.

Because Raph was busy battling Shredder man to man.
OF COURSE Raph was never meant to beat Shredder, 'cos if he did, he would be the most powerful character and the movie would be broken.

That doesn't get rid of the fact that Raphael didn't contribute at all in this movie besides Kicking Shredder in the face. The only ones who contributed was April, Vern, Leo, and Donny. It is not really a Raph movie because he contributed so little.

IndigoErth 08-11-2014 12:58 AM

Well, in his defense Raph did at least pull Splinter out of the rubble and take him to a safe room to wait for them to return. After April couldn't move a chunk of concrete that did not look like it should have really been too heavy to move at least enough.

Seriously. Raph has only two motives to exist in the movie; to pull rubble off Splinter and kick Shredder in the face. This is...

You conveniently left out the fact that he rescued his brothers.
Whether or not he did it himself personally, doesn't change the fact his presence there allowed the other turtles to escape 'cos everyone knows april and vern alone won't be able to save the turtles otherwise, especially with Shredder being there.

Shark_Blade 08-11-2014 03:02 AM

The main hero is Vernon.

If it wasn't for him, April won't be able to get the mutagen, and without the mutagen she wouldn't have lured the Shredder away from the boys during the breakdown of the tower (they could've been killed even).

Hawkeye 08-11-2014 03:02 AM

The only reason Raph wasn't captured was because he was defeated when the other Turtles weren't.

Mikey seemed to get the most love, with Donnie and Raph next. Leo was under utilized.

ScrewtheMirageTMNT 08-11-2014 03:12 AM

It's nice that this version of raph had a more stealthier disguise. Unlike the 1990 movie version.

Who is vernon?

Shark_Blade 08-11-2014 05:27 AM

Not once did they call him Vernon.

Coola Yagami 08-11-2014 06:07 AM

Nickname maybe? But yeah. That was supposed to be Vernon.

Shark_Blade 08-11-2014 06:08 AM

Ditto. He's still Vernon. ;)

Nope, he's Vern.
That would be like calling Raph, Ralph.

Don't assume just 'cos of past incarnations.
So, are you gonna call whoopi goldberg "Burne Thompson" too?

Mellie 08-11-2014 07:05 PM

To me Raph felt like the main turtle in this movie. It also seemed like a bunch of character development scenes were missing. Meh.

Sadly... we kinda have to....

ScrewtheMirageTMNT 08-11-2014 07:10 PM

To me vern is short form for vernon, he may not be called vernon in the movie but we know who he's suppose to be based off of.

Shark_Blade 08-11-2014 07:16 PM

Yep, he's still Vernon.

What's the fuss. Many places call him Vernon too. Even the first lists on google have him as Vernon.

I could call Whoopi as Mrs Burne. And no one ever calls Raph as Ralph.

Not really.
I see no resemblance other than the name.

No pink shirt, not a sissy and a wuss and also hits on April???
Not the vernon that i know of.

Unless they over use spell check:D

Back on topic, He is Vernon. but they have changed his character to be less annoying!

In some of the cartoon episodes Vernon totally does hit on April. Is it Donatello's degree where he asks for a kiss????

OMGosh which episode is this? :o

Spidergreg 08-11-2014 10:15 PM

Are you serious? I was starting to think he's ghey.

Coola Yagami 08-11-2014 10:17 PM

How can you handwave all the other ka-zillion changes to the Turtles, Splinter and Shredder.... and not see they did the same to Vernon?

what changes did they do the turtles exactly?
So they changed the origin but the turtles are still the turtles.

Leo is still the leader,
Raph is still always angry,
Mike is still the party dood,
and Don still does machine.

Their messed up origin, them being strong enough to knock trailers around like nothing, their needlessly tacked-on outfits. As for their.... uh.... personalities?

Leo is kinda/sorta bossy
Raph is cranky for whatever reason threatens to leave... for whatever reason...
Mikey is pervy
Don is pretty much the same just nerdy to the super extreme

Honestly, we barely knew these guys. A lot of it was mostly left for the fans to 'fill in the blanks' based on previous incarnations. The problem is... this isn't a sequel. This is a whole new movie. This movie seriously needed a bit of downtime to better establish everyone. Not enough to drag the movie down, but just enough to make us actually care about these guys, and not just because 'OMG I WATCHED THIS WHEN I WAS A KID'.

This is not true.
Vernon doesn't even like April.
He'd say things like "I'm gonna get a new scoop before she does" etc.

Who said there's anything wrong with it?
I'm just saying i can't see Vernon in Vern.
Even his name is not the same.

IndigoErth 08-12-2014 12:28 AM

I think in movies the words "loosely based on" applies there. Vern/Vernon aren't exactly names that typically show up in movies, so kind of obvious where it came from in regards to TMNT.

Besides, I think in that Nick behind the scenes special on tv they (rather inarticulately) included his character when mentioning "fan favorites," implying it's a character we are (roughly...) familiar with.

Vernon Fenwick is his name in the movie, just as it is in the Fred Wolf cartoon.

Ooooh

SNAP

SNAP

SNAP

BURN

Evidence on the table people!

Spidergreg 08-12-2014 01:44 AM

Why are you guys so surprised?
Of course it is Vernon.

What i meant was....
until it is confirmed by the movie, we shouldn't speculate.
Everyone knew he "could be" Vernon, but the movie never confirmed it.

Just like Karai was in the movie, but does that automatically make her Splinter's daughter?? No !!! 'cos Splinter was never human in the movie.
