Project Playmates: The Toys That Time Forgot

So looking back on SDCC 2013's Playmates Panel there were several toys, etc that were not released this year and I thought this would be a good time to bring it up. So which of the scrapped ideas are you most disappointed we never saw? Am I missing any?

Ooze Canister w/ Figure Blaster

Ooze Blaster

The Shell Cutter

The Turtle Dragster

The Escape Pod

The Crusher

The Collector

I personally love all the enemy vehicles, I just can't decide which I like the best.

Venom 08-12-2014 04:52 PM

These looked cool!

Candy Kappa 08-12-2014 04:56 PM

All the vehicles looks amazing.

Timmetry 08-12-2014 05:52 PM

The vehicles will most likely be released with the next season as they are Kraang tech and the turtles venture to Dimension X.

909 Turtle Fan 08-12-2014 07:00 PM

Definitely the shell cutter for me, but the collector is impressive also.

I hope you're right, Sir. It would be a shame to think Playmates dropped these awesome designs yet went ahead with crap like the Shell Copter and water-squirting nunchucks.

Yeah, The Collector has a Foot symbol on it, but it has an insectoid design to it and the pilot doesn't look like your typical Foot soldier. I'm wondering if maybe there are/were plans for ScumBug?

psychturtle 08-12-2014 09:09 PM

Kind of makes me think that they just announce this stuff to get us excited, but never really put effort into producing it.

Rukitron 08-12-2014 09:30 PM

All these kraang vehicles. I hope they are just holding off til we get some dimension X adventures. Most of the vehicles in this line so far have been just toy only.

A part of me hopes Bebop has a floating convertible based off that sweet Foot Cruiser from the 90s line.

Metalhead 2.0 08-12-2014 10:55 PM

Since we're headed to Dimension X could The Collector be for Antrax?

And the Foot symbol on it is a 2k3 version... ??
Could Karai be starting her own faction?

The Turtle Terminator 08-13-2014 01:22 AM

Why did Playmates not release this:tgrumble:

OrokuYoshiFilms 08-13-2014 08:06 AM

I totally forgot about these. I've learned to have short-term memory with Playmates' reveals. I would've loved to see all those vehicles. Personally I don't think anything is gonna come of "Casey's Zamboni" from this year's SDCC either.

You know what this is a pretty decent thread. You should include all the diffrent reveals that never were...

Thread title changed. I'll get to work on that as soon as time permits.

Hero 08-14-2014 01:31 AM

Halfshell Heroes Donny has a Collector type vehicle.

That Shell Cutter looks cool but also painful for both the target and the rider. :)

Metalhead 2.0 08-14-2014 01:33 PM

Here are some figure designs I've come across.

Samurai Dog

Escar Joe

Hal Roach & Wasp

Junkyard Dog

Dump

Raoul Rodent/Mercenary Mouse

Tom Sawyer

RainDownOnMe23 08-14-2014 02:30 PM

Thanks, this is a great thread. I'm looking forward to seeing everything that is going to be posted.

Thanks. I have at least a couple more posts worth of stuff, but I'm trying to pace myself. Don't wanna blow my load too early.

miru 08-14-2014 05:37 PM

These look to be from the later days of the original line, where the designs got less edgy and more cartoony. We usually only see sketches from the early days of the line, so nice find!

Thanks! Can I get some stars up in this piece?!

I love seeing the one with the red editor's notes after they were submitted for approval like Mercenary Mouse where it simply says "NO".

Darthknuxward 08-15-2014 05:05 PM

Yah I agree with Casey's Zamboni probably ending up canned. Was the Shell Flyer ever released in stores? The Mutant Wasp figure also seems to be canceled.

Shell Flyer was certainly released. I remember passing on it because it looked like junk. It's available on Amazon and various other places.

Back to the fun stuff:

Terrorpin and Snappy Warhol

Grisly Grimace(intended to be Antrax's partner)

Suckerball Vehicle by Laird

Burne Bot by Laird

JunkMan

Krang's Dimension X Bodies

Metalhead 2.0 08-15-2014 11:07 PM

Aliens Movie-Influenced Turtles

The REAL Rock-N-Roll Mondo Gecko

Grasshopper Mutant

Cryin' Houn (from Stump Arena)

Scalien by Laird

Stump Arena Raph

Jagwar

snake 08-15-2014 11:24 PM

This stuff is so cool! Wasn't Bitroid not shown this year? Was he scraped?

miru 08-15-2014 11:39 PM

The 2007 line was going to have a great many original characters such as Metal Klawz, this fire dude, and others, but they never materialized.

Also, Power Mouse from the original line:

I think he was shown at Toy Fair in February but not SDCC.

Are all the pics in the second post from last night showing?

Metalhead 2.0 08-17-2014 12:19 AM

I just noticed a member named TheAmazingFlow had posted Krang's Gross Dimension X Body prior to my update last night, so my apologies for reposting him here in my thread.

Timmetry 08-17-2014 10:57 AM

Mondo, Cryin' Hound, Scalien, and Grasshopper are not showing up.

The Crusher

My guess is the 2K3 Foot logo is on there because that vehicle design has been floating around Playmates for a while. I really, really want it to get made, though. It would be the closest thing to the above ground Foot vehicles from the first NES game!

Thanks, I thought it was just my phone.

Scalien

Cryin' Hound

Grasshopper Mutant

Rock-N-Roll Mondo Gecko

1990 Newtralizer

1990 Nocturno & Cat Burglar

JunkMan

Discogod 08-18-2014 11:09 AM

Scalien seems rather similar in design to Fishface. I wonder if the former were any influence on the latter?

Yeah, kind of a mix of Fishface and Scale Tail.

I remember I have seen Rock'n'Roll Mondo Gecko on the back of the package from one of the bootleg Turtle toys (Ninja Action bootleg Donatello). I thought he was released.

Nocturno and Rob - interesting idea. Wish they would have appeared in the old series.

No, even though his origin story had him as the front-man for a metal band pre-mutation wholly justifying this mold, we ended up with the 'hippy' version pictured below instead... :tgrumble:

I would kill for those ALIENS inspired turtle figures. Damn, what could have been.

Darthknuxward 08-24-2014 12:29 AM

Any other unreleased figures? I know Armaggon started off as a figure concept that got rejected.

Tons! Sorry, I've been right lazy with this thread lately. I promise a large post soon, but in the meantime here's a few:

Bulldog Mutant

Bulldog Mutant Exoskeleton

Krab Mechanic

Shredder Vehicle/Playset

Wolverine Mutant

And re: those Alien inspired TMNT - that happened in the first RPG book, there was a couple pages of a comic included wherein the turtles were heading to a halloween party. I think it was Mikey who was dressed like an Alien (and I think Leo was dressed as a Grandma, I need to dig it out and check it out again.)

If a robot doesn't have the decency to wear a bra what makes you think they would credit your pic? Lol.

Can't argue with that logic ;)

Zarana-X 08-25-2014 02:30 PM

That Dragster looks alot like the Dodge Tomahawk concept vehicle with treads added. https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/i...OvEdU6PAuI2PQI

miru 08-28-2014 06:45 PM

I've recently made an article on the unmade toys on Lost Media Wiki.
