Is anyone else afraid to hear what Seth Green sounds like as Leonardo in Season 3?

Not sure if someone made a thread about it yet but I heard the news and shuttered after hearing how annoying his voice was in HULK and the agents of SMASH.

TurtleTitan97 08-15-2014 08:02 PM

Eh, not too much. I mean, sure, Agents of SMASH sucks, but Green has been in plenty of other good stuff.

And lets not forget this show has Andrea Romano, the best casting and voice director in the business. So I wouldn't get too worried. :tcool:

Jester 08-15-2014 08:07 PM

Seth's an actor. I'm sure Leo won't be A-Bomb.

JTH 08-15-2014 08:23 PM

On my list of things I'm worried about for Season 3:

Leo's voice change is right after "Will Cheery Bing be added to the list of flavors on ICK?"

CyberCubed 08-15-2014 09:10 PM

I'm sure they'll at least tell him to mimic Jason Biggs.

Raven 08-15-2014 10:24 PM

At first yes, I was put off to the idea of Seth Green voicing my favorite turtle. But upon further thought Seth has an incredible range, maybe he doesn't always show it but he has turned in some great performances.

I wish Biggs would stay, I rather like his voice but I have no doubt that Seth will do an excellent job.

RaphAndDonnie 08-15-2014 10:25 PM

Eh...a little bit but I trust Green's talent as a VA so...I suppose we'll just hae to wait and see! :D

IndigoErth 08-15-2014 10:32 PM

Slightly apprehensive, but he's a pretty good voice talent so hoping/trusting he'll make it work... At least we know it's coming and not kept in the dark.

We'll get used to it. Maybe we'll eventually even prefer it. But hoping it's not too terribly jarring at first.

snake 08-15-2014 11:26 PM

I trust him to do a good job. Seth has many voices.

Warhorse 08-15-2014 11:45 PM

I actually think he's going to be damn good. So nope, no fears or worries here.

Electric 08-16-2014 12:14 AM

I have faith that Greene can mimic Jason's voice enough, so it's his own, but still leo

pennydreadful 08-16-2014 03:21 AM

I'm not concerned; I'm sure Green will knock it out of the park.

Candy Kappa 08-16-2014 03:23 AM

lol, no. Seth is awesome.

Mukouno 08-16-2014 08:17 AM

I'm actually pretty curious how this will play out. I've seen a video where someone put different versions of Seth's voice over some clips of Leo and it wasn't that bad. I could definetely get used to it.

erik 08-16-2014 08:25 AM

Adrea Romeo does no wrong, in my opinion. If she says Seth Green is a good replacement, then she's a good replacement.

BTW - do you think Jason Biggs was fired? He had that tweeting mishap, that shot across FOX News. He's had other troubles, from what I've heard, too. Then suddenly he's not even completing this season.

BUT - seriously - Leo is probably the easiest voice to replace. Commanding leader-type (if not for the fact I knew Bigg wasn't playing it, I never would have known he never voiced Leo in the TMNT Video game.)

Bottom line, Seth is going to do fine.

Bry 08-16-2014 08:58 AM

Nope. Excited, if anything. I've enjoyed his work for a very long time and I'm very curious to see what "take" he has on Leo. And I think Seth will give the role some more stability, as he tends to stick around and stay professional with his VA roles.

I'll miss Biggs' take, though. I thought he was excellent in the role, but if this was unavoidable, I'm glad it went to Green.

Leofan26 08-16-2014 05:03 PM

You guy's will get used to it over time, I remember you hated the last replacement but he was getting better as Leo before getting replaced again.

Raphael4 08-16-2014 05:56 PM

I'm disappointed Dominic didn't get the job honestly cause he did well if greem has to mimic biggs I'd be sad for green as he's a great v a. Just a pity that nick didn't start with green as biggs was kinda bland.

THGhost 08-16-2014 07:26 PM

Seth seems like a really cool and all round nice guy, and a terrific actor both onscreen and off. I trust he'll make a great Leo. Looking forward to hearing him.

Donatello19 08-16-2014 07:49 PM

I don't think anyone will be able to top Biggs, he was really the perfect voice for Nick Leo IMO. I guess we'll see.

THGhost 08-16-2014 08:27 PM

I personally prefer Dominic Catrambone as Leo, more weight to his voice. It's a shame they're not keeping him full time, but I do look forward to hearing what Seth brings to the character.

Foombamaroom 08-17-2014 12:23 PM

I'm just curious as to why Leonardo is now being played by actors who are in more adult-type media. I mean, Jason Biggs is in American Pie, Seth Green does Family Guy and Robot Chicken, and Johnny Knoxville... don't get me started.

I'm looking forward to Seth, though I have a feeling he won't be mimicking Jason's voice too much. Seth's voice does sound a little bit similar to Jason's in my opinion.

plastroncafe 08-17-2014 12:32 PM

That's the easiest question to answer:

They're big names that are famous for appealing to the adolescent male demographic.

I don't know that "afraid" is the word I'd use.
But then, I'm still really sad to see Biggs go. I'm sure Green will be just fine, possibly even great...but I'll need to hear his actual performance before I go that far.

I've loved a lot of the guy's work, from his days back on Buffy to a chunk of his Robot Chicken stuff.

It was really awkward to have Green at the SDCC panel and then have them show a whole bunch of turtle footage with someone else voicing the character he'd been hired to play.

They probably put him there to show that "Yes, this is actually happening." and to add to the fact that he seems devoted to the show.

I'm curious as to why they are getting pretty well known actors to voice the Turtle period. I think they should stick with the purely voice actors that are under the radar. Really, how much is the bigger names like Sean Astin, Jason Biggs, Seth Green in terms of budget, when just as good voice actors like Nolan North, Michael Sinterniklaas, James Arnold Taylor(but he might be too busy with the new Star Wars Clone Wars reboot) Brian Tochi or Laurie Faso might have been added at a more reasonable price. Granted, I honestly do not know the salaries of the more known actors compared to Rob Paulsen and Mae Whitman, they very well could be paid evenly across the board, I'm just going what usually typically happens.

Yeah, that's kinda odd. If it's been on purpose trying to seek the right tone for him they're trying too hard imo, an average sort of voice, with the ability to sound serious and somewhat authoritative when need be, works fine enough. Are there so few in the world capable.

Agree. That also must kind of suck for those that are strictly voice actors if the trend in the business has become to hire known-ofs for voice roles.

plastroncafe 08-17-2014 02:04 PM

Yeah, Voice Acting is a skill that not every actor is capable of, and it very much frosts my cookies when a Named Film/Television actor is added to a cast to boost appeal, rather than say...for their skill at voice acting.

Most of the non-turtle voices were changed for the 2k12 movie in post production, because the Powers That Be thought it would sell the film more to have Chris Evans, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Patrick Stewart on the poster.

Having said that, I have no problem with film/television actors doing voice work. Sean Astin is awesome as Raph, and it worked really well for Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra.

When they announced the casting for the new Nick Toon I remember looking askance at the casting of Biggs and Astin, but didn't give Cipes or Paulsen a second glance.

Then I watched the show and it was Cipes and Paulsen that were were way more distracting than Biggs or Astin, who I didn't even notice.
They were just Leo and Raph. It was weird.

I also thought that. Paulsen is a better Don than he is Raph, but I feel Cipes is the perfect choice for Mikey. I just don't like Mikey's character too much in this series, hopefully he'll be matured.

Dis?

@Thread question: Nah, I like Seth Green, he's a good actor and I trust Ciro. He has done a good job with voice selections so far (Assuming he's the final say in who gets the job, because I know there is a voice caster. )

And never mind the fact that Stewart and Green have BOTH been known for their VA in other shows or movies. Green has done Family Guy and Robot Chicken for YEARS, Stewart has done VA roles in video games (notably Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone) as well as other roles. And then there is the REST of the ST: TNG cast doing key roles in Disney's Gargoyles. So it's not as uncommon as one might think. Consider Mark Hamill's Joker on Batman: TAS or Hobgoblin in Spider-Man: TAS. Amazing voice work from a Star Wars alum!

Yeah, Seth will be just fine. And Seth sounds more like Leo than a jackass!

After listening to that clip I just realized there's potential for a Dr. Evil type villain in the show.

BubblyShell22 08-19-2014 07:33 AM

No, I think Seth will do fine and I'm looking forward to it.

SnakeShifter 08-21-2014 03:44 PM

I have some doubts, but Seth Green is much better VA than Jason Biggs, so I'm optimistic more so than doubtful.

Munk 08-22-2014 12:14 AM

I had to stop watching Hulk and the agents of SMASH just because of A-Bomb. Seths character. Now, he's going to voice one of the beloved turtles? I just hope and pray it doesn't sound annoying. Fingers crossed tightly.
