Good Smile Company

The Japanese company GSC are making 4 TMNT statues based on James Jean designs. More info here:
http://mamitan.goodsmile.info/2014/1...ninja-turtles/

You can see them in person at this year's NY Comic Con in GSC's booth Oct. 9 and Oct. 12.

Candy Kappa 10-08-2014 04:58 PM

nnngh!

Why not make'em into Figmas. Damn that Leo statue looks nice.

Redrumh2o 10-08-2014 05:11 PM

Who is James Jean? That katana looks to be taller than Leo is

Powder 10-08-2014 05:27 PM

Goddamnit, I thought this meant we were getting Nendroids. Mad disappointed. ;~;

joefsas 10-09-2014 01:51 AM

That Leo statue looks amazing! I can't wait wait to see the others :D

Cover artist on Fables, Umbrella Academy... I think he is the artist who win the most award for covers in comics industry.

Redrumh2o 10-09-2014 03:12 PM

So he drew that one strange pin-up of the turtles that is shown on that page, that wasn't published anywhere, and they are making statues of it?

Miles 10-09-2014 04:06 PM

Not quite up my alley, style-wise. I imagine the inevitably high asking price won't help either. The Leonardo sample piece looks great in terms of craftsmanship, though. For those who really dig this look, these are going to rock.

Lil Karai 10-09-2014 04:27 PM

I dig the style! We'll see what the price point ends up being and how large the statues are....

PangolinFeets 10-09-2014 04:41 PM

I went to the booth at NYCC and all of them were there! Very cool set.
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e1...ps542aaa9f.jpg

Boothman says $120 each as of now.

PangolinFeets 10-09-2014 04:46 PM

I took more pictures and I'll upload them later. Also, if these are successful they have plans to produce more TMNT figures, including nendoroids. -some employees at the booth.

Well that sucks. These aren't gonna sell very well. Nendroids would sell like CRAZY, but of course, like most companies, they're making the good stuff hinge on the crap nobody wants. Great. :ohwell:

madyankees 10-09-2014 05:24 PM

Loved the look and wished they were going to be action figures instead of statues. Saved me some money

turtlefanforever 10-09-2014 06:02 PM

hmm

looks pretty badass. if the asking price isn't that bad I might get one.

snake 10-09-2014 06:14 PM

These look really cool. They'll be pretty expensive.

psychturtle 10-09-2014 06:48 PM

I like them a lot. May pick up Raphael or Michelangelo

raph27 10-09-2014 07:49 PM

These are amazing! I so wish I could afford one. unfortunately at $120 a piece these are a pipe dream for me.

This made me  for my first post.

These WILL sell out fast. Theres a huge market of statue collectors out there, especially for TMNT statues, which there are very few made and in demand. So these statues you think are crap, will end up running $2k-$3k in 5 years time.Thats expensive crap. Refer to Sideshow Collectibles and Playmates cold cast resin TMNT sets. Not long ago they were running for $150-$250 when first released. I for one am happy to get another TMNT statue set. On top of that Prime 1 Studio's is making movie versions. Great time to be a TMNT statue collector!

Allio 10-10-2014 06:45 AM

welp, I know what I'm getting

Surely with my 15k posts I have no knowledge of the TMNT collectors market, right?

Nothing can be compared to the Playmates statues, they're a rare case. They're old. They're highly detailed. They represent Mirage comics. They had a small run. The sideshow statues have gone up in value too, of course, but they also represent the brand properly by having a look that could be indicative of almost any version of the property up to the point of their release. These pieces are small, stylized fan-art, essentially, which is going to turn off a lot of people, clearly. There's no way in hell they're gonna do the kinda numbers or after-market prices that their predecessors have.

turtlefanforever 10-10-2014 01:29 PM

yup

same here. I'd pay anywhere from 40-60 probably go as high as 80 but yeah don't like these enough to throw down $120 although extravagant

Yes, playmates versions are old and rare, sideshows has only been out for 5 years and theyre doing the same numbers it took playmates to accumulate in 10 years time. If Good Smile Company decides to mass produce these edition sizes to 3k or more, then they have less of a chance to make those numbers of what PM and SS have been pulling in. Prices will stay low while the older versions will hold their value because there arent a lot of them flooding the market.

At $120 a pop and being what we pay for collectible statues currently, is like using toilet paper and wiping our butts with. Those prices are nothing. And at 1/6 scale, these are the same size as playmates versions. The style may turn you off, but theres a lot of us TMNT collectors begging for any TMNT statues to be made, regardless of price to a certain extent. And the ones that missed out on sideshows or playmates versions, some arent willing to pay $2k-$3k prices. But at GSC prices, no doubt will be hot sellers. Theres already a growing positive reception on these GSC TMNT collectibles.

I may not have a vast amount of knowledge with your collectible toy figure aftermarket prices, but I certainly know what Im talking about when it comes to high end collectible statues. If you'd like to gain a perspective from the statue community, go here:

They're very meh to me.

They look like fan art. Why not make statues based on accomplished and classic TMNT artists such as Dooney, Farley, Berger, Lawson, Talbot, etc? We had the playmates statues based on the original Eastman and Laird run, however their styles totally change through the years also, so how about some latter day Eastman and Laird? Or go the Adventures route and give us some Allen or Mitchroney. Or want to keep it contempary? Plenty of greatness coming from IDW including Dan Duncan, Ross Campbell and Santalouco...

But what we are getting are very low down on my want list, and look a lot like fan art made into statues. Not a fan.

psychturtle 10-14-2014 07:26 AM

Ill probably buy Michelangelo and stop there. These will probably I ether go down in price or they will be HTF and expensive later.

I love these more and more every time I see them. I know a lot of people are disappointed that they aren't based off of art we've seen before but that's what I really like about them. It reminds me of the old Mirage days with all the different artists lending a hand to the mix. I'm definitely locking in for all four...now where am I going to put them!?
