Any Raphael fans who dislike Casey Jones? Or their friendship?
Throughout most of TMNT franchise (with the Fred Wolf series being the most notable exception), Raphael and Casey Jones developed a close friendship bond because of their similar hot-headed, choleric personalities. It seems that the Casey Jones character is used as a foil to Raphael's character; for the narrative to compare and explore their anger/rage.
Are there Raphael fans who dislike Casey Jones, and/or dislike their friendship generally in the franchise? I'm just curious as for the reason(s) since on the surface, it would appear that if one enjoyed Raphael's character/personality, one would also enjoy Casey Jones too. Maybe the details aren't coming to mind as to why right now, but I'm curious for the reason(s) if anyone has that particular position. |
*raises hand* But that's because despise 2k3 Casey so much...
Generally their friendship has a certain dynamic that works. Both are so hot tempered so they can relate better than they do with other people. Whenever one goes overboard, it's like a mirror hence they'll remind or refrain the other. 2k12 has it's moment during Casey's first reveal but other than that, it isn't explored more (yet?). I think the best ones to enjoy are from the comics atm. |
I was really digging Casey's relationships with both April and Raphael in IDW, though for some reason they decided to make him go emo because of the issues with his father, which to me was really stupid.

nope I am a fan of Raph and I love all version's of Casey GOONGALA
|
Not really, although it'd be nice to see Casey hanging out with some of the other turtles for once. The Nick show has Casey with mostly Donnie and Raph.

Leo-often with Donnie or Raph Raph- often with Leo or Mikey Mikey- often with Raph or Donnie Donnie- often with Mikey or Leo It's rare to see Mikey and Leo having team ups/bonding moments, and rare to see Donnie and Raph have team ups/bonding moments. When it comes to other characters in the mix, it's just as exclusive. April-Casey or Donnie and sometimes Leo. Casey-April, Raph and Donnie (at least in the 90 movie and the Nick) Splinter- pretty much almost always teamed up with Leo. I think there was a few episodes where he teamed up with Raph and then another with Mikey in 2k3. Karai-pretty exclusive to Leo as well, Shredder-Splinter, Leo or Karai. Now, with Casey, I actually wouldn't mind him maybe interracting with Mikey. I think they would make a good team. |
I don't dislike Casey, but aside from the movie version he's far from one of my favourite characters (but hey, Elias was awesome, so...). Raphael is typically my favourite Turtle (again, 2012 being the exception where Donnie wins out). Personally? I've never really felt that the Raph/Casey friendship added much to either of them, aside from being mutual enablers of reckless behaviour, which both have proven capable of even without the other.

You can dislike Casey Jones? Why wasn't I informed?
No. Casey Jones is one of my favourite characters in the movie, 2k3 and 2k12 |
Nope. Love them both and their friendship. Would like to see more of them together in the Nick show like they were in 2k3.

Casey is awesome.
Except Nick Casey. Bleh. |

Raph has always been my favorite character and seeing him with Casey is always awesome but I will admit I like the Raph/Mikey relationship a bit more, them being not only brothers but best friends in Mirage. That said, I really do love Casey, he just fits in so well.

In all honesty, I never thought about it. I never had a dislike for Casey and I can't deem Raph a "favorite" because as I've said before, I don't have an overall favorite turtle as it changes from medium to medium. For instance, I'm not a fan of Raph's anger in the Mirage comics all that much, so can't favor him, but I love OT Raph, Archie Raph (for his realistic approach to things and his cynicism), and 1990 movie Raph. It all depends on the medium for me which turtle I'll favor, so like I said, no overall favorite, but as a kid, because I liked Raph so much (from the OT), game wise I would always choose him. lol
Oh yeah, I never really favored Casey either...'cept for the OT because he was insane! I don't know what it is with me finding humor in mentally unstable characters... ^^;; Hm, maybe that's why I liked Jesse "the Finger" Ventura in the recent 2k12 ep. lol Oh and like I said before, anyone who can go on a job interview in a suit while wearing a hockey mask and carrying around a golf bag of sports equipment and swing it around and still get the job gets an automatic "awesome" in my book. :-p  Okay, going back on topic, I guess their friendship is ok. I can take it or leave it. With the 2k12 series though, it's interesting how they really haven't played this up though. I kinda like seeing Casey hang around the other Turtles. His hanging around Leo in the recent Nick ep was nice. Wish he hanged around Mikey more, given Casey's personality for this incarnation. He doesn't come across as a person who has anger or temper problems like in the Mirage comic. Their friendship worked well there...and not sure about 2k3 and he wasn't in the Archie comics, so I guess, for me, out of the mediums I've been exposed to, seems it just works best in Mirage. |
Well, we are catching Casey at a young age now. In other mediums, he was older, so probably had more things to get pissed about. Maybe when they get back to the city, and it hits home that he wasn't able to protect his dad and little sister, which was the main reason why he became a vigilante, perhaps that will start to grind Casey's gears. Maybe when Hun does show up, it could be the tipping point for Casey. (Maybe, Hun is the reason Casey's sister ends up a Purple Dragon, a.k.a Angel!) That right there alone is enough to piss off any brother who is trying to be overprotective of his little sister.

I could see why people would find the bond between two meatheads as annoying, but I'm hardly one of them really.
I know there's at least one guy on 4chan who hates Casey for being a secondary Raph, but you know, I found him on 4chan. Take anything on there with a grain of salt, even if they act somewhat reasonable, a large portion of 4chan's TMNT threads are about arguments over who's the most fap-worthy of April and Karai, or praising the "fluff" of Alopex. |
I like Elias Koteas
I'm actually more interested in the turtles, Splinter and Shredder. Raph and Casey's friendship doesn't bother me, but I'd rather see less of Casey. |
In the new nick series, I can't stand Casey. In the older comics he was cool. But I do have to say that I'm kinda tired of the whole"bromance" thing between the two. Because every time they're together in a story, they always gotta point out just how badass they are. Why not let it just be normal, almost like how the 90 movie was? They were all cool with each other.

I just don't like Nick's Casey.
|
Nick Casey is annoying for me because he's just there to be unstable in fights, be a dick to Donnie, and pinch April's butt. He's recently had a few decent episodes and the one that was shown at NYCC is a good Casey episode so he's starting to grow on me.
|
I am not a Raph fan, but I hope I can answer too.
Casey never was one of my favorite characters, but he isn't bad in OT and 4kids (only episode I didn't like him is "shredder strikes back part 2") series, good in the first movies. But in Nick series he is awful for me, and for me Nick series would be better without him. |
Dude everyone likes Casey.

Add me to the list of people who don't like Nick's Casey. There's something really obnoxious about him, although to be fair he's far younger than he is in Mirage and 4kids.
Mirage Casey struggled through a lot, and I could feel his pain coming through the pages. The pages where the doctor tells Casey that Gabrielle has died giving childbirth are amongst the most heartbreaking ever seen in TMNT media :( :( The fact that he had the courage to go on to bring up Shadow says a lot about what sort of man he is. 4kids Casey starts off very violent but actually softens a lot, you really see his soft side in scenes with April and Splinter (he really looks up to Splinter). Really likeable guy. Elias Koteas is the top man and really doesn't need any praise seeing as he's brilliant as Casey and is an excellent actor in general. This Nick Casey doesn't seem to have any empathy for anyone and seems lacking socially. |
I've always liked both Casey and Raph. They're the two characters that I feel every rendition has gotten right. There's some controversy over Nick's Casey, and I have to agree that's probably the weakest incarnation of him. But, to be fair, he's in high school this time around; he's not some 23+ year-old. So it's only natural that he comes off as obnoxious and hardheaded. I think the Nick crew did well with what they had to work with, after having made him as young as he is.

IDW Casey is the best Casey. |
I'm just waiting for Nick's Casey Jones to say "HUG ME BROTHAAA" to Raph.

I like IDW Casey. OK with Mirage. Not much with 4Kids and Nick.
Their friendship is a good thing for me. But Nick didn't do it well, I didn't see them together much except in their episode, Casey even interacted with Donnie more than Raph. And here a pic for Raph fans. :trazz: Spoiler:

I wonder if the Nick Casey will be subject to that infamous accusation from Donnie from the 1990 movie. "You're a claustrophobic!" "What, you want a fist in the mouth! I never even looked at another guy!" That was comedy gold! I can totally see this thrown into the Nick toon at some point.

Not sure it will make it into Nick. It's a homophobic statement (implying that some deserves a smack for implying that you're gay, as Casey believed Donnie was doing) and that's an uncomfortable area on a kiddie show. |
