Official Ep Discussion: S3 Ep3: "Buried Secrets"

Man, it is getting harder and harder to find videos to embed in this thread.

Okay, so a little time has passed since the romance of Bigfoot-ette and the crazy finger guy. We've also seen Donnie get some really confusing mixed signals from April - she doesn't like the music box, but she kisses him on the lips and calls him 'her mutant'.

We've gotten past all the crazy weird stuff with the puke creep and Bigfoot, so now they can settle down into the 'routine'- Cleaning up the house and clearing out the cobwebs. Dusting and polishing ALL the wood furniture in the house.

And then the basement. I hate basements... they're dark, dank, full of old stuff, and infested with enough spiders to make a Steven King movie.

April said that this farm was her childhood home - away from the city, away from outside contact. We know now that she's not a normal human being, but it does bring up more questions. What was her father doing during the time they were there? Was she a normal kid back then? And where is her mother? (...we're starting to sound just like the avatar fans!)

WILL DONNIE CONTINUE TO SPAR WITH CASEY FOR APRIL'S HEART?!
WILL APRIL FIND OUT THE TRUTH OF WHAT HAPPENED TO HER MOTHER!
IS KIRBY REALLY THE LOVING FATHER WE'VE BEEN LEAD TO BELIEVE?!
Oh yeah.... DID MIKEY SAVE THE REFRIGERATOR LAST WEEK, AND RESCUE POOR ICKITTY?!

Stay tuned!!

Just saw it. Great episode. Oh, mutagen gets spilled in the woods and it might be possible that some other Mutants well be introduced, ribbit. ;-)

IndigoErth 10-17-2014 06:32 PM

:teek: Anyone have words for it, 'cuz I don't. Woah.

Frogs incoming...

Luckyday 10-17-2014 06:33 PM

It interesting that April's....banshee scream seems to only effect the kraang and kraang's experiments.

snake 10-17-2014 06:33 PM

Told you guys :P

Powder 10-17-2014 06:34 PM

Getting a little sick of the "character X is not who you think they are" plot. Saw it coming 10,000 miles away. That aside, this was a very entertaining episode. Loved the nods to They Live & The Thing, ice cream kitty getting more screen time, & dark stuffs.

Syb3rStrife 10-17-2014 06:35 PM

Poor Mikey, Once again no one listens to him and because of that all hell breaks loose.

Anybody else catch that Raph was watching the Halloween III Silver Shamrock Commerical? I nearly died.

IndigoErth 10-17-2014 06:35 PM

This though:

Halloween 3 movie reference. :D

(*Strobe effect warning, don't need anyone with issues having one)

Edit: Starting to like Seth a bit as Leo, at least when his tone sounds smoother and less gravelly. One or two parts in this one he just sounded like a good, older Leo who's voice had simply deepened, not bad. :)

RandomtasticFantasy 10-17-2014 06:38 PM

My quick thoughts:

Spoiler:
-Why doesn't anyone listen to Mikey at this point?! He's been right about his feelings/hunches too many times now!
-THE THING reference! Creepy as heck to boot.
-April always getting that head power thing in knick of time and when there is no other option: are they ever going to explain what it is anytime soon?
-Ice Cream Kitty and Mikey are too adorable.
-Frog mutation coming soon. Wonder what that'll become.
-Casey seems to be really great to talk to when someone is really having emotional turmoil.
-My favorite of the movie homage episodes thus far.

oldmanwinters 10-17-2014 06:41 PM

Renae Jacobs did a fine job. Ironically, the only times she really sounded like her old April voice was her screams, faints, and "evil" mood.

Ashwolf 10-17-2014 06:45 PM

awesome ep, but my 1 complaint is how raph, don, and mikey sent leo down into the basement 1st even though hes injured, I mean, come on, seriously.....
other than that, love the direction they are going w/ the show

JTH 10-17-2014 06:48 PM

It took 3 episodes, and Seth Green has sunk in to me now. No point during this episode did I think anything of it.

Bring on the Punk Frogs...after a 3 week hiatus! :P

Very Nice episode by mister Mark Henry.

MrTMNT2012 10-17-2014 06:48 PM

Sick Episode! The plots are getting repetitive but I must say this episode was written WAY better than the previous one. Renae Jacobs did a fantastic job! The action was badass too. :)

Thought the same when I'd seen the commercials. Sure, the limping guy with the crutch. Such protective chickens brothers you are. :P (Ok, they have been at other times.)

CyberCubed 10-17-2014 06:50 PM

I bet some little kids were scared away from watching this show ever again because of this ep. They're probably losing ratings because kids are getting nightmares and refusing to watch.

Kids aren't wusses okay? Have you seen the new Spongebob episodes? This doesn't even compare to those and those episodes get huge ratings from kids...

Halloween 3 has to probably be my second favorite in the halloween series (with 1 and 5)

What? This episode aired? I thought it wouldn't air until next week.:ohwell:

matteso586 10-17-2014 06:58 PM

Three things.

1) The feels like the start of a story arc. The search for Mrs. O'Neil.

2) Renae Jacobs is a nice choice for who should voice April's mother.

3) We're going to see the Punk Frogs next episode.

Back in 1993 and still today, kids who watched Power Rangers saw a monster devour heroes and their heads appeared on its stomach.

http://statici.behindthevoiceactors....char_59779.jpg

So maybe if they saw that, then they could have handled tonight's episode.

I just had thought. If April's mother is still out and Mae Whitman's mom use to played Mona Lisa in the OT then do you think they will use her to play April's real mother and get to be Mona Lisa in this version too?

I find it funny the Punk Frogs are mutated in this show almost the same way they were in the OT.

Kids love being scared

you just can't scar them

I hope not. When I hear Mona Lisa, she's pretty much exclusive to Raphael, nobody else. This is a tradition I hope Nick sticks with.

This. If they didn't love being scared, and get that thrill from overcoming their fear, then what's the point of growing up?

No, not even close. Halloween Resurrection has it beat by a long shot. But I digress, This was still much more enjoyable, if slightly predictable episode. 8/10.

Mike Myers isn't even in it. At least he's in those ones.

The only reason I can figure for that is that they don't want Leo to feel like a liability that needs to be sheltered and protected while he's recovering (though he's already proven he can handle himself with the Creep). For someone whose suppose to be the oldest and the leader, that would not help Leo's self esteem at all.

Of course I could be wrong and they were just being little chicken sh*ts.

You too? Yeah, I never like going in the basement either. But that's where we keep the litter box and it is MY cat, so it's my responsibility and....

Ok, 'bout the episode. Man, these are getting weirder and weirder. I really hope the writers are focusing on the plot as well as the visuals for this show. I mean that...thing was pretty messed up, but pretty clever in design. So, the Thing remembered April's mother getting captured and apparently they had been experimenting on her family's bloodline since her great grandfather?

Well, if they knew that the Kraang ship landed on that property...WHY DO THEY HAVE A HOUSE OUT THERE??!?!? I mean, April's mother had to have known that the Kraang activity should still be there, so why would they keep going back to a dangerous place like that? Maybe I missed something...

Once again, poor Mikey is said to be stupid and nobody believes him until it's too late. Although Pizza Face is still debatable. And how exactly DID he sense something was wrong with April's mother. I didn't notice any warning signs going off when Irma showed up or when Kirby was brain controlled. Still, I'm glad he was picked off early so we got it down to Raphael.

As for April's powers, that's still pretty confusing. It only seems to happen around Kraang when her adrenaline reaches a certain point. I don't think it's a sonic scream, like someone said, but more of a psychic blast. Her screaming is just from how much it hurts her.

I certainly hope that April's mother comes back or is somewhere. If her DNA is special since her grandfather's days, then she'd have been too important to just dispose of. But that would mean that the Kraang could've taken over the planet years ago as opposed to when April was born.

I really want to believe in this show guys. I really really want this to be as good as it was in the first season, but I'm starting to think we may have jumped the shark awhile back.

Still, I'll keep watching it, even if it is for episodic purposes.

IndigoErth 10-17-2014 07:31 PM

Felt kinda a tiny bit bad for the Turtles though along with April. Asking where "mom" is, rather than saying "Mrs. O'Neil"... words they'd never really had a chance to speak before. Too bad she wasn't legit and couldn't have gotten to know them as family, too.

Their version of the originals (except for the main cast) have always been very different so far. I wouldn't past them on doing something like that.

In H20 and Resurrection it might as well be Ghost Face wearing a bad michael myers mask, they couldn't capture what made Michael, Michael

Not really. Karai was initially connected with Shredder, and has her main bond with Leo. Irma was still best friends with April like in the OT (and that is still up in the air, the real Irma could still be out there, and the producers are just pulling our legs) Hun is still going to have his rival with Casey. Leatherhead is still buddies with Mikey the most. Casey was still introduced to the gang via Raphael.

It's actually funny you bring that up.

Because when you stop and think about it.

Yeah that was cute and...weird at the same time.
And now it just feels so sad.:tsad:
