Archie characters in the Nick series, is it possible and how would you feel about it?

I heard that the creators didn't want to use characters from the IDW comics in the series so i was wondering was there also an embargo against having characters from the Archie comics appear in the show as well. I hope not, i'd like to see Archie TMNT characters like Armaggon, Ninjara, and Hothead in the 2k12 series i mean the show already pulls characters from the FW and (if Hun's inclusion is any indication) the 2003 cartoon so why not comics?

Powder 12-21-2014 12:21 AM

There's no embargo, it's just that both creative teams (IDW & Nick) wanted to make an effort to keep their versions separate & unique that they'd be judged for their own merits rather than one doing something/someone better than the other. Granted IDW now has Pigeon Pete, but that's it for now. Anyway, I'm sure it's possible & that they'll do them justice. Snake got word from Ciro at NYCC that we'd get Armaggon at some point, so there's that. Like you, I'd love to see Hothead, too.

snake 12-21-2014 12:23 AM

Armaggon is coming, but I'd love to see forever war come in the form of the Nick cartoon.

evan2000 12-21-2014 01:08 AM

Isn't Mondo Gecko originally from Archie comics? He's coming soon.

Previously Michelangelo wanted to call Kirby bat Wingnut, but it was quickly shot down by Donatello.

Also Casey Jones called Tiger Claw "cat man dude" at one point, clearly referencing Katmandu.

It's entirely possible for more Archie comics stuff to be used the Nick series going forward. They agreed not to cross IDW stuff because it's still ongoing, while they don't have this limitation with Archie comics because it is no longer ongoing.

Ninjara.

Null would also be pretty sweet. I know there's some big thing about who he was "really" supposed to be and I wanna know already. Andrew knows I think but he won't tell me. :tgrumble:

Null represents Gary Richardson.

Leo656 12-21-2014 01:49 AM

Well that's a pretty big letdown, honestly.

Thanks for the reply, at least. I sent like, several PMs about it. Like, every time he pointed out that he knew but was "saving" the information for whatever reason. Should'a expected as much from someone who ain't down with Nash.

Powder 12-21-2014 01:56 AM

Well there may very well be a deeper meaning to the character in-story, which could be what Andrew is/was hinting at, but if the 'something more' is in reference his creation/inspiration, there's your answer.

The Turtle Terminator 12-21-2014 01:59 AM

I really think this show needs the Mighty Mutanimals (is that how you spell it?). With all the "MOTW" episodes going on it's really possible to have a large gang of them and have them band together during City At War, if this show does it with Slash, Snake Karai or Leatherhead as the leader of the team.

Actually I think it might be that other thing. It always bothered meeeeee.

pennydreadful 12-21-2014 03:03 AM

I'd be fine with it - it'd be great to see Ninjara.

Mondo Gecko and Wingnut aren't Archie originals, They appeared as either a toy first, or in the Fred Wolf Series.

Wingnut's first Archie appearance was in TMNT Adventures #8 (February, 1990):

His first OT appearance was in Zach and the Alien Invaders (first aired November 23, 1991)

Mondo Gecko's first Archie appearance was in TMNT Adventures #18 (March, 1991):

His first OT appearance was in Michelangelo Meets Mondo Gecko (first aired September 21, 1991)

I'm not familiar with the release date of the toys, maybe you can enlighten me on that :trazz:

That would be cool if they did that, And show the future Turtles as adults, Maybe Mezcaal would show up as well? Who knows.

The figures came out circa 1990. So maybe it was before the comic appearances maybe not. Maybe you're right. I have no idea how to find about what day their figures hit shelves in 1990.

Well, Ninjara soul have an ugly duckling story relating to Shredder's mutant army. She'd be a tiny, ugly reject led to rot in Chris Bradford's old dojo. Raph meets her on a mission, and they form a bond. Eventually, "Cubbie" protects Raphael and falls into a can of mutagen. Then she undergoes secondary nutation into the Ninjara we're familiar with.

Mugic 12-24-2014 09:15 PM

Since Minae Noji (who played Karai in the 2014 movie) was confirmed to be voicing a character in the show, i was wondering could her mystery character be Ninjara? I'm not familiar with all incarnations of TMNT so are there any other notable female Asian characters in the TMNT series besides Ninjara that her mystery character could be?

I don't know of any other female asian characters from TMNT other then, Lotus Blossom from the original series.

I believe she was the influence behind Karai.

Pretty sure Karai came first.

I've always imagined Old Hob (even though he's not in the show) to lead a group that consists of Newtralizer, Slash and Leatherhead.
Snakeweed and Spider Bytes I can live without.

Powder 12-25-2014 07:29 AM

Why would she have to be voicing an asian character? :trolleye:

Ninjara is more popular by a fair margin, so I bet it's her.

There's also Aska and Pimiko but I think they ain't owned by Viacom.

Powder 12-25-2014 09:25 AM

Pretty sure Pimiko is, but Aska is still owned by Konami, to my knowledge.

Oh, I thought they meant Asian human characters, and Ninjara is Japanese. I also would like to see her appear on the show, Including Mona Lisa.

No, actually, no she didn't. Karai appeared in Mirage a few years after Lotus's appearance in the OT.

Teddy 01-17-2015 08:45 AM

I'm still holding onto the hope that they'll bring Ninjara into the show at some point. That would be pure win! :)

Metalwolf 01-17-2015 10:24 AM

Ugh, no Ninjara! We already have somebody to fill the 'dark ninja chick' role and it's Karai. What could Ninjara even bring to the table other then looking like a non-mutant dog version of Karai?

ToTheNines 01-17-2015 11:25 AM

Yeah, I never understood why Ninjara was so popular. I mean... I kinda get it, but she's still a really poorly written character.

Anyways, I would like to see more Archie characters. Perhaps they'll make Armaggon a foil to Renet, that could be cool.

And now that I think about it, Cudley would fit perfectly in the Nick universe lol.

Actually, Ninjara is more then that, She was under some mind control, until the Turtles were able to break her out of it. Shes is also bad ass, who ultimately joined the Turtles in many adventures, Became romantically involved with Raph for a while.

IDW has Alopex, But she is no different to Ninjara per say.

I like Mona Lisa as it was interesting to see Raph have a love interest and it would be interesting to see nicks Raph have a love interest.

But that stuff makes her even more similar to this version of Karai!

Getting broken out of Mind Control and being enemy of Turtles- Grew up believing Shredder was her father and was enemy of the Turtles until the Turtles broke her out it.

Bad ass -Bad ass

Raph's love interest - Leo's potential love interest

Joined Turtles' side - Joined Turtles' side

Ninja - Ninja

They both fill the 'dark action girl with attitude' trope to a tee, and now knowing that Alopex is the same exact way, I'm wondering if they don't know any other way to make females interesting with out deviating from this. Maybe that's why people liked Irma. She was so normal compared to these that it made her interesting.

I'm definitely due for a TMNTA read through, it's been at least 3 years... but I'm almost positive there was no mind control going on. She was just bad for the hell of it, and enjoyed being a thief. Then one day she just randomly decided she was sorry.

That was after she met Raph, and she saw something in him, That she relates to.

LeotheLateBloomer 01-18-2015 08:04 AM

If they feel the need to give Raphael a love interest, I'd rather he fall in love with someone new as oppose to a past love interest.

Yeah, that stuff trends bore me when it comes to franchises like TMNT that get rebooted a lot. It's why Casey/April bore me as a couple. I love their arc in the Mirage books but everything after that just eats screen time. Although I did think the circumstance of their initial meeting in the IDW books was cleverly written.

But Ninjara is a character we haven't seen done in animation yet, There's opportunity for that.

Ninjara is pretty cool. But damn I'm terrified of all the furry artwork it will cause.
They should really make some female characters that aren't love interests.
It's like the writers think guys can't be friends with girls without having a crush on them.

CyberCubed 01-18-2015 10:33 AM

Ninjara was the first major female "animal" character in the series who stuck around. That's the only reason she was memorable because she stuck around for 80% of the Archie run.
