ANOTHER new TMNT B/W series? from MIRAGE?

Hey guys, not sure if anyone caught this or if its already been posted..and if it has, just lock this topic, but theres a NEW TMNT kid on the block, and its from MIRAGE!!!

THE SLUSH FACTORY.COM has just announced the following:

"Artist Rick Remender has told Slushfactory.com that he's been tapped to work on a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles book from Mirage Entertainment.

"I can’t talk about what the book is, or what it’s about," says Remender," but it’s a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic penciled by me, Rick Remender (Black Heart Billy, The Avengers, Doll and Creature), and inked by one of the unquestionably best inkers alive, John Beatty (the original Punisher mini, Batman, GI Joe).

Continuing, he says, "I can’t say anything else about the nature of the book, other than it deals with the original TMNT and takes place in the eighties (where I’m stuck forever anyway). Peter Laird and TMNT scribe Stephen Murphy have been blown away by the art so far. John and I know everyone else will feel the same."

thoughts???

Karpo_007 08-31-2003 12:52 PM

We knew there will be a new Tales of TMNT book, I don't know if this is related to that or something new, but it looks VERY good. Thanks for the heads up LeSean!

LeSean 08-31-2003 12:54 PM

sure man, i'm a fan too ya know!!!lol

and always surfin' for new TMNT stuff online.. apparently tho, this is entirely new, seperate from the new Tales series.. the news was announced this past weds...and judging from the preview art on the Blast from the Past info thats posted, the art is COMPLETELY different. this is evident because the artist is VERY hush hush about it, and cant reveal anything, even the title name...news indeed :)

it looks hella cool, too! :o

Karpo_007 08-31-2003 12:56 PM

True that... Hopefully some new info will be revealed sometime soon.

The Master 08-31-2003 01:00 PM

Looks pretty sweet...

But I'm wondering why another new TMNT series from Mirage. I mean, is the market even big enough for four series at once?

I don't understand.

But still looks pretty good.

Karpo_007 08-31-2003 01:02 PM

Im sure it is, TMNT comics are selling very good.

Splinter 08-31-2003 01:45 PM

Oh, for the love of god. While the turtles look okay, Splinter looks absolutley terrible. I can't even put into words how terrible he looks. He doesn't even look like a rodent anymore. I hate how he was drawn in the current Mirage Series. But I never thought I'd see a version that looks worse then it. Amazingly I have, and now my eyes have imploded in protest. :dead:

The Master 08-31-2003 02:22 PM

I will agree Splinter is quite bad in the new series. His face many times just looks like a mush. Bleh.

This new splinter here is okay. I do think he looks a little...ferocious.

But the Turtles certainly look cool.

Karpo_007 08-31-2003 02:30 PM

Yeah Splinter seems pretty weird, but I could live with that. And thos are just concept art I think.

Sparvid 08-31-2003 02:47 PM

:o Those pencils are sweet!
Wonder what the story will be...

Psycrow 08-31-2003 02:53 PM

Nice find LeSean!

Gotta love that irony as well. :D

cqb101 08-31-2003 03:11 PM

*&%#$@($&%@&@&!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!! I can'y ****ign wait! That's amazing! LeSean, you shouldn't have posted that. I'm starting to like that art more than yours. :P

Karpo_007 08-31-2003 03:19 PM

Yeah, I to wonder what the story will be... The article says that it deals with original TMNT and happen's in the 80's... Is it original Mirage stories with new art or what? So next year there might be 4 ongoing TMNT books... I don't think that has happened ever before.

cqb101 08-31-2003 03:24 PM

4 books?! Man, I need to get a job......

Karpo_007 08-31-2003 03:27 PM

Yep, and it seems 3 published by Mirage... TMNT is back in full force.

Dane E5R 08-31-2003 04:19 PM

Don't worry LeSean, I still like your art more. But this is really f*ckin' awesome. You think you could ask Peter Laird himself?

Karpo_007 08-31-2003 04:23 PM

It seems to me they don't wan't to give out much details yet... I think we should just wait

Nturtle 08-31-2003 05:54 PM

Damn, you beat me to it Lesean!! Aw well,

I think it looks preety cool, I've got to voice my distaste for those bandanas that cover their whole heads :ohwell:

But what in high holy hell is wrong with Splinter?? namely his teeth!! They look alligatorish!! :o

Still very cool...

Cascadia 08-31-2003 06:36 PM

the art in my opinion is ok.....but maybe it will improve.

lhb412 08-31-2003 07:55 PM

:o :o :o
Whoa... that rocks

Dane E5R 08-31-2003 10:33 PM

Hey guys.. I think I found somethin'.

http://www.slushfactory.com/content/...03-rick3-l.jpg

Look at the top of this page.. It looks like it says "Tales TMNT #4, page 13"

So it looks like these are gonna be for the new Tales of the TMNT!

Karpo_007 09-01-2003 04:07 AM

Good observation.. Well 3 ongoing TMNT books are enough!

Quiller-Bee 09-01-2003 06:57 AM

Man, this book is gonna be sweet!

HorseTechie 09-01-2003 09:04 AM

Hrmmm.... interesting! Can't say what this is about either, or if they are going to have various artists also work on the Tales of the TMNT this time, instead of one or two.

All the art looks great.. but I also have to agree. Splinter looks a bit like a rabid mutant wolf (as usual). :goofygri:

You're right! Aw, man. I wanted 4 ongoing series.....

Bry 09-01-2003 09:15 AM

Wow. This looks great. I'm really excited for "Tales", even just so we get all sorts of different creators taking a stab at the guys. I quite like the art, even if Splinter looks a bit odd. But hey, pretty much every artist has a drastically different take on the Sensei, so I'm used to it.

The full-head bandanas belong to the Pre-Teen versions of the TMNT, if I remember correctly.

Raven 09-01-2003 09:58 AM

ho...holy crap thats, that....wow, thats cool!!!!!!! crap anther comic to add to my weekly spending!

~Well, whether it's three or four, or ten new titles, I know *I'll* buy all of 'em!

~GW..."Too much of a good thing is just about right."

Lisardo 09-01-2003 10:30 AM

Hey that looks pretty damn awesome! And it does look kinda FoxBoxy, heehee! Dang I need to keep up with my comic book collecting. Thanks for the update!

Skeletoncrew 09-01-2003 01:49 PM

Okay, I'm excited about this, but...WHY MUST THESE PEOPLE MAKE SPLINTER LOOK LIKE SOMETHING OTHER THAN A RAT?! Why does he look like the bastard son of a loosee sewer rat and a junkyard dog? WHY GOD, WHY?! Rats don't have freakin' canine teeth! *Beats head against computer desk*

All I ask for is a few more artists to make Splinter look like a rat. A RAT. Not a dog. Not some blocky faced freak. A RAT.

Thats right, Maybe that book will be about Pre-TMNT..

Nturtle 09-01-2003 02:42 PM

Intresting, but they don't always have the full cap and if tose pics are straight from the book then they won't have them there... So maybe the earlier ones are about the pre-teen turtles and by the 4th one they are at the full band age...

Sparvid 09-01-2003 03:07 PM

I want to see stories taking place between #1 and Shredder's return in the Leo oneshot. There is a lot of untold asdventures in that time!

Karpo_007 09-01-2003 03:42 PM

Yeah, but so are between Volume 2 and 4.

Tetsu Deinonychus 09-01-2003 08:45 PM

Not to mention between "Return to New York" and "City at War"

Loolaa 09-02-2003 12:00 AM

:o Oh wow... that looks awesome! I'm gonna have to bully my comic store guy into stocking it and saving it for me.

... and am I the only one who actually *likes* the way Splinter looks here....?!

8)

Dinogrrl 09-02-2003 10:37 PM

Woo!

No, Lola, you aren't. Although he certainly doesn't ever look like a rat, and honestly, I don't think he ever did throughout the entire TMNT universe, I like the look. He looks kinda dragon-y and mondo scary. :)

Besides, if all the artists made him look precisely like the sort of rat he should be, it would limit artistic creativity. I like to see differing interpretations, even if they venture outside of biological realities. After all, we are talking about fictional mutant creatures here.

I'll have to keep an eye out for this in Previews.

Eye of Sarnath 09-05-2003 12:21 PM

Vey cool pics! A pity there's no place to buy comics near my house, or else I might keep up with them more.

I'd like to point out that in the pics near bottom (the ones of actual comic panels, not just concept art) they don't have bandanas like that.

impetus 09-05-2003 09:18 PM

OK, kids special treat, a special colorized-by-impetus version of the Leo pic. :o

EDIT: I think it'll off-site link now, should show up since I changed it to a .txt file.
