Gunpowder 01-21-2015 11:02 PM

Explain Your Username.

If this thread (or one similar to it) already exists, call me out on it.

Why did you pick the username you have? Is there some meaning behind it? Is it something your friends call you? Or is it a name you just sort of came up with on the spot, or what?

Not to be anti-climactic, but there's no meaning behind mine whatsoever; Gunpowder is just a word I really like. Has a nice ring to it, I think.

snake 01-21-2015 11:19 PM

I liked Snakeweed, from the new tmnt show. I changed it recently. Snake sounded shorter and better.

Toitlefan 01-21-2015 11:45 PM

I didnt put a lot of thought into mine. It was just something I needed to get started I guess. It does make me think of Bebop and Rocksteady though.

IndigoErth 01-22-2015 02:55 AM

Have had this name scattered across the internet since I believe spring of 2004. o.O

Indigo... nice color, particularly like the bluer variations. Also like the word.

Erth... Earth without the "a," was still in my 20s, guess I thought I was being original leaving the "a" out. Was always kind of a nature kid, born on (U.S.) Earth Day in an Earth sign. Even my Jeep came to me used (1 year old - it's now abt 14) on my b-day/Earth Day (coincidental date that I could sign the papers) with a little faded "Planet Earth" sticker on it's bumper, so I knew it was meant to be with me. lol So the Earth thing has always been pretty well ingrained with me.

joefsas 01-22-2015 03:26 AM

Use mine for alot of things.
Back when I was eighteen I used to wear alot of 'Famous stars and straps' clothing.
My first name is Joe, hence joefsas :D

pennydreadful 01-22-2015 03:42 AM

Nothing all that special about mine - it's basically just a tongue-in-cheek reference towards inflicting what some would consider to be my "dreadful" personality on people. I also liked the horror reference... and at the time, I needed to come up with a name and couldn't think of anything else. *shrugs*

I continue to stick with it as it's what people know me by here and I couldn't really be bothered changing it now.

ssjup81 01-22-2015 04:00 AM

At the time I made up this name, I was a fan of DBZ and Sailor Moon. I couldn't think of anything better and picked this. I've had some equivalent of this name since about 1999. SSJ Jup81, SSJ_Jup81, etc.

SSJ = Super Saiya-jin (Dragon Ball Z)
Jup = Jupiter (Kino Makoto from Sailor Moon)
81 = My year of birth

DarkFell 01-22-2015 05:18 AM

I read Elfquest from time to time. The characters, some of their weapons and their wolves had odd names. Part of my username came from there and I just changed it until I got DarkFell.

Candy Kappa 01-22-2015 05:35 AM

And here is the origin of my username:

Kappa is my favorite mythological creature and the protagonist of a comic I worked on for a long while was a Kappa, the comic is more or less dead, but my original username was based off him.

Mew 01-22-2015 06:45 AM

My origin is:
Mew, my favorite Pokèmon, and Meow, my favorite sound.

Oh, I thought your username was from something else.

As for mine, anyone who has seen 'Turtles Forever' will understand.

TigerClaw 01-22-2015 07:52 AM

My username originally came from the game Wing Commander, There was a ship you were always docking in after each mission called, TCS Tiger's Claw

Bry 01-22-2015 08:29 AM

My name's Bry.

:tthumbsu:

neatoman 01-22-2015 08:34 AM

I was originally going to use a name I have used very frequently on forums, but I decided it was time for a change.

The reason? Well... I started to use that name when I was 11 years old and for the first 2-4 years or so I (understandably) said a bunch of immature, stupid and somewhat offensive stuff that garnered a lot of haters on these forums, what can I say, I was just a dumb kid behind a keyboard. And while I did learn how stupid I was and actually bettered myself, people on these forums still hated me anyway despite my apologies and improvement.

I don't know how many people here would know me by that username, but I did not want to risk getting unnecessary haters because of it. I just typed in the first subsitute that popped into my head, neatoman, and went with it.

Mayhem 01-22-2015 08:34 AM

Name is as name does, described my life at the time and what I usually bring to the party. There was also a videogame character of the same name around the same time (1993), and it stuck.

Lethal Lullaby 01-22-2015 08:58 AM

Well first I had started with RaphDonZixx because Raphael and Donatello were my favorite turtles and I liked Torbin Zixx from FF. Then I went to 19thCenturyGhost because well I thought the style from the era was interesting and I thought the ghost part added a nice haunted touch. After that I decided I wanted a change. First I was thinking something like Legal Assassin, a song from REPO! The Genetic Opera, then thought nah. I was also considering two words that both began with M, but then some people would shorten my name to MM (like Marshal Mathers aka Eminem. I like him, but it'd feel weird having a name sound like his when it's shortned) But finally I came up with Lethal Lullaby. As someone once told me before, it's like an orthodox. You sing a lullaby to put someone to sleep, but a lethal lullaby does more than put them to rest. I like my name now though and I think I'll keep it.

TheBlueTurtle1 01-22-2015 09:53 AM

I was mutated in the sewer with this stuff called "ooze" I had just been playing with smurfs and turtles (trying to make them fight) when suddenly ooze poured down a drain ( because for some reason I was in the sewer) and splashed all over me. I turned in to a turtle with blue skin:ohwell:

Slade 01-22-2015 10:00 AM

I change names a good bit. I'm gonna have to stick with one. Prolly Roman. It's kinda badass.

Anyway, I'm using Slade cuz I like Deathstroke...

ShelleyQuick 01-22-2015 10:16 AM

Mine's really quite simple. I really hate my first name so I mixed my first and middle name together, Sheila Michelle-Shelley(plus Shelley is nickname for Michelle also) and Quick is my last name. I usually put 80(my birth year) behind it, but, I forgot to do that when I signed up for this forum. I use either Sheila Michelle or ShelleyQuick on every webpage I'm on that way I'm easy to find.

Iron Maiden song.

Powder 01-22-2015 04:45 PM

My real life nickname is Powder, which stems from the film/character of the same title.

TheCanadiandrome 01-22-2015 04:49 PM

I'm Canadian and I really love the Technodrome :D

Blossombrooks 01-22-2015 05:04 PM

Blossom Brooks is my alter ego, it started years ago when I was still at school and y'know when you do the 'stage name' ;) (mother's maiden name + first pet name) game? Well this is mine and I liked it so much I started using it to do all my artwork under, most people who I meet on the art circuit don't know its not my actual name.

That was a cool movie. :)

Raph's Girl 01-22-2015 05:27 PM

Raphael's my fave of the turtles.

Leo656 01-22-2015 08:34 PM

Pretty boring. Leo's my favorite Turtle and 656 was part of my old phone number.

Katie 01-22-2015 09:07 PM

It's my actual nickname

CyberCubed 01-22-2015 09:23 PM

I picked this username back in 2001 when I was 15 or so. The Gamecube was Nintendo's new system at the time so the "Cubed" at the end of my name actually comes from Gamecube.

I bet some of you didn't know my username was Nintendo themed. Cyber is just generic because as a 15 year old in 2001 I thought virtual reality was cool and Cyber = internet/robots/whatever. I can't believe I've been using the same username since 2001 when I was 15 years old on the internet in general.

ProactiveMan 01-23-2015 03:15 AM

I use ProactiveMan here and there. It comes from an idea I had a long time ago about a superhero who spoke in management jargon. His name was Proactiveman, and he solved crime with process and buzzwords. Suffice to say, nothing came of that lame idea, but I had a soft spot for the name.

It was almost MrDetective, after my favourite showbag. (Maybe only Australians know what those are)

Don't worry, as I pointed out in my entry, I've been using this Mayhem handle online since 1993. Yeah, internet existed then, way less websites than today, when the browser battle was between Netscape and Mosaic, you could use stuff like GOPHER to get files, and the search engines of choice were Alta Vista and Yahoo...

Consider yourself lucky for having a simple yet unique username that's never taken in any new place you join.

BlueKatanas 01-23-2015 11:16 AM

I usually just pick a favorite character and go from there. On an Indiana jones forum I'm "Maybe. Not Today" - part of one of my favorite lines in temple of doom. My name here is kind of obvious. It's hard to pick a favorite turtle, but Leo is the one I empathize with most these days.

Amaranthus 01-23-2015 11:50 AM

Amaranthus caudatus is a beautiful plant.
I've always liked the sound of Latin. It has that electronic vibe to it.

Donnieangelo 01-23-2015 04:14 PM

Because Donatello and Michelangelo are my favorite turtles.

Donatello_One_Shot 01-23-2015 04:26 PM

The Kirby and the warp crystal one shot really got to me :)

blindturtle02 01-23-2015 06:23 PM

I'm totally blind and it's a turtle forum. I just couldn't come up with something unique that day because I remember being focused on cooking something or other. I suppose I could eventually change it to Darkturtle if that's not taken. I'll stick with this one for now, I guess.

I dunno about anyone else, but I love coming up with new usernames.
