Anyone who used to like this movie, but no longer does?

Each time I watch this thing, I get closer and closer to the realization that it's garbage. From my perspective, production values and the Turtles' mocap actors were the ONLY real high points of this movie. Nevermind the plot holes, nevermind the crappy editing, nevermind the fact that half the cast was hired for being a name...the thing that frustrates me most is that these problems only happened because the production team - which is infamous for this stuff in the first place - was allowed to mess with the property, and handled it in a way that was geared 100% towards product placement and making money. Nothing more, nothing less.

Eh, but I guess I'm starting to sound one-sided, huh? I'll still watch the thing on occasion, but only when I'm in a blank mindset and just want to watch something that's one-dimensionally entertaining. BUT, more to the point, I used to like it a whole lot more than I do now - that was after having seen it only one time. Like I said, each time I see it, I'll notice something that makes my head turn, either from making no logical sense or just being unnecessary - and this is without any influence from other people whatsoever. Same thing happens when I watch it by myself.

So am I alone here? Did anyone else like it upon first seeing it, but liked it less down the road? Or even the reverse - did you used to hate it, and now like it? Has your opinion changed on it at all? (I won't take shots at you for liking it, don't worry. :tlol:)

Creativemind 01-29-2015 12:49 PM

I'm assuming you are talking about the new one. No, I still like it. I still think it's better than the 3rd one or the 2007 tmnt.

Autbot_Benz 01-29-2015 12:50 PM

I have watched 3 times once in the theater twice on DVD. I still like it.

Xiewin 01-29-2015 12:56 PM

you're not alone.

The first time I watched it, it was okay.

The second time it was just a bad story, with good turtles

the third time is when I realized that this movie was just pure garbage, both the story and turtles themselves.

Amaranthus 01-29-2015 01:09 PM

Why would anyone watch a recent movie like TMNT 2014 3 times?

Candy Kappa 01-29-2015 01:23 PM

No, I jumped ship when the designs was first leaked (Mikey Halloween costume). And it just went downhill from there.

Mew 01-29-2015 02:11 PM

I think the movie is good.
To much Megan Fox, but hey, she's hot!

CylonsKlingonsDaleksOhMy 01-29-2015 02:12 PM

I still love the Turtles' characterization, but when I watched it on DVD, I fast-forwarded thru the entire opening until they first appeared. So basically, now when I watch it, I'm skipping all of the April/Vern material. (And facepalming at the horrible Sachs/Shredder magic blood writing.)

Nameless 01-29-2015 02:33 PM

i like the movie but not as much as when it first came out... its just not a movie that re-watches well because you don't get anything more out of the movie. not like you watch it and notice same things you missed the first time.

snake 01-29-2015 02:45 PM

I never liked it. I don't plan on watching it again.

While I probably don't belong in this thread since I've come from the other direction, I've started doing that as well. Since I warmed up to these Turtles a bit eventually and own the movie via Christmas gift I've had the DVD in a few times, but I've started to fast forward through all the non-Turtles stuff and done so the last couple of times. After a couple viewings the human-only portions start to feel a bit long winded and dull. And with the writing already spotty, what's to miss.
Spoiler:
Granted I suppose were I a guy (or a woman that swings that way) and was into looking at Megan Fox it might be less dull :P, but I'm not... and well, a couple of the best looking guys involved are hidden behind their green counterparts.

The one I'm most surprised at at this point is the "Project Almanac" advertisement...

In some way it's interestingly 4th wall breaking to now have trailers for it on tv not having known it was a real thing, in other ways...wtf using the Turtles movie to advertise it early.

Only after watching it again at home have I realized just how much product placement is there. Is this money that helps the film or goes into pockets? Because I thought that stuff was supposed to help movies, but if it's going into their pockets then at that rate what are the rich producers contributing other than control.

Shark_Blade 01-29-2015 03:42 PM

I watched it 8 times at the cinema. And many more on blu ray.

Still loving it.

Hahaha!

I thought the movie was great. The funny parts were great. (Loved the part with the elevator!) The turtles were too. Yea it was a little clishae splinter "found" a book of ninjutsu out there in the gutter. I've watched it multiple times since christmas (when I got it). The weird part was April kept screaming for no reason. xD

Dude, trust me - I swing a number of ways and I don't find Fox appealing either. Judith Hoag has it all over Fox in spades.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but huge amounts of plastic surgery are not only a turn-off for me, but also massively creepy - all these actors walking around with the same features. Doesn't anyone else find it genuinely unsettling on a visceral level? All these celebs having the same teeth, noses and cheeks? It's like we're being invaded by aliens.

I still like the Turtles themselves (minus Knoxville's voice), but that's about it.

Her facial expressions (or lack of) annoy me now, it looks as if she's trying too hard to keep the one single expression she thinks is appealing. (Also... her eyes are creepy in the darker lighting of some scenes in TMNT, particularly when she's laying there after being yanked back onto the roof, dead alien looking eyes.)

Powder 01-29-2015 05:16 PM

I'm a red blooded male who loves to gawk at females & I feel the same way. She's too supermodel looking for my tastes. I much prefer a more homegrown regular look. Either way, April's looks are her least important aspect. Had she been a greek goddess, porn star, whatever, no matter how attractive she is, it doesn't make up for other shortcomings in the film. Not to anyone who thinks with their upstairs head, anyway.

The Boston Ninja Turtle 01-29-2015 05:21 PM

I was one of those with an open mind and ready heart...even when the halloween costume came out i was scared but didnt right it off write away

i mean kids halloween costumes are awful anyways

then we got those Leo and Donnie Statues and i was still ok

then we got more..my heart sank, trailers came out and i lost all hope.ive said it before and i will say it again this is not TMNT outside of its name....its just a cash grab

Shark_Blade 01-29-2015 05:59 PM

Megan Fox is #1 Hottest Women on Empire.
http://www.empireonline.com/100sexie...ult.asp?star=1

And she's still in the top 10 in 2014.
http://www.wonderslist.com/10-beautiful-women-of-2014/

And many magazines and websites. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean others feel that way too. ;) The world has regarded highly of her. Look yourself in the mirror before slandering other people. ;);)

B-Man 01-29-2015 06:19 PM

We all know she's limited as an actress but the girl is gorgeous. If she's not good looking, I don't know who is. Wouldn't say she's No. 1 by any means though. Her lack of relatability and steely "I'm too cool for you" expressions kill that quite a bit.

Sweetheart, I don't give a shiny sh*t if others find her hot. I specifically said in my post that I am not attracted to her. At no point did I say "anyone who is attracted to Fox is a puppy-kicking f*cktard". My favorite musician in the whole world has said that Fox is #1 on her list of people she'd like to bone. That doesn't change my opinion any.

Last time I checked, fugly people are still allowed to a) have their own preferences with what they're attracted to, and b) voice their opinions. Your argument is pretty much just "You're just jelluz hater bcuz u r ugly". Dude, I'm aware that far more people want a taste of Fox's hot-sauce than they ever would of mine. That has nothing to do with the fact that I still don't find her sexy.

Last but certainly not least, my opinions and preferences aren't shaped by what other people like, or what mass media touts as being popular - so I don't know why you're even bringing up Empire.

I still like the movie even several months after it came out, for me, If you like something, You like it forever.

I guess for some people, after they get older, the movies they grew up with, no longer have any effect on them.

I look at the older movies, and only remember that, they were a screenshot of the era they were made.

The older people get, the more critical they are, which is fair enough. I just hate when I do it personally when it comes to franchises like this. Makes me feel jaded

Not only that, Looking back at the older stuff, just makes you feel old.

Leo656 01-29-2015 08:28 PM

"A magazine that exists solely to tell people what is marketable and 'attractive' says this actress that was in this movie I like is hot, because they make lots of money on pictures of her ass, so of course it must be true. Real people's opinions don't matter, because they're just people. Meanwhile, a respected media institution such as a magazine or website would only ever tell the truth."

Truth is, she's Just Okay, and you're an idiot. Literally everything you say is awful. Every single thing. I try and avoid personal attacks, but I swear, you make it hard. If you ever said ONE thing that wasn't trolling/baiting nonsense it'd be a goddamn miracle.

CyberCubed 01-29-2015 08:36 PM

Megan Fox isn't good looking at all. I wouldn't even have sex with her if she offered herself to me with no strings attached.

IndigoErth 01-29-2015 08:42 PM

Hollywood puppet, she won't work without strings.

LeoRaph 01-29-2015 08:49 PM

I don't find her attractive at ALL. I don't get the 'plastic ultra skinny look' that Hollywood does either. Women who look like real people NOT artificial expressionless cult members Now THAT'S attractive.

Oh and yeah, it didn't get better the 2nd time. I gave it another shot via streaming to see if I was being too harsh and NO I wasn't being harsh enough. The 5 Razzies are Well Deserved save the Worst Supporting Actress 'downgrade' :twink:

 I'm suuuure.

She's OKAY. By Hollywood standards though she's definitely nothing special, especially after she wrecked her face. If you saw her on line buying bread at 7-11 or something she'd be a knockout (when compared to the flock of "normal" and less attractive people in the immediate area), but for as much attention she gets, there's really no reason for it when Hollywood is full of chicks who are both better looking and can act better.

Actually, there is a reason, and it happens every day. It's called, "The Casting Couch". Literally the only reason she's forced down people's throats so much; because she had a few people "forced down her throat" first.

I do find it funny when people pull the "I'd never hit that" line, though, as in my experience they're the type who'd pay for it. Not always, but usually. I've legit seen guys whose wives were 250lbs look at a girl like Fox and be all, "Nah, she ain't hot, she doesn't have enough ass," and I'm like, "Well, no, compared to the livestock you're used to keeping at home, clearly not..."

Anyway yeah she's Okay but nothing super-special. Especially not now. I mean, that FACE. Ugh. I'll grant you the body, or at least her ass, but that FACE... to think she CHOSE that one... oooof. She lose a bet with Meg Ryan?

Ryan?

Well fat chicks are another story, but comparing Megan Fox to other slim girls around her weight...she's just not as appealing.

I'm not the kind of a guy who wants to have sex with a million chicks, give me one good girl for the rest of my life and I will be happy.

shuriken 01-29-2015 09:04 PM

^^In terms of "fat chicks" I guess it depends on the severity of fatness:lol:
But seriously I've dated some thicker ladies and to be honest I don't mind personally. Some thicker girls got curves for DAAAAAAAAAAAYS. Never been with anyone over 200 pounds but I find the older I get, the less I really care. My current girlfriend is tiny though, but that has its advantages too.

Back to the movie I like it. Even though it is a very badly made, poorly acted, poorly paced, poorly directed and poorly edited movie. The CGI was good, even great at some parts. That is something I can't say about TMNT though.
As for Megan Fox, I used to think she was very pretty, but her "new face" does seem a bit strange. Different strokes I suppose.

Ahh, yeah, the old "Better to make love to one woman a million times, than to make love to a million women" chestnut.

I promise you, the first guy to ever say that nonsense probably couldn't even get hookers to hold still. There is not one guy alive that wouldn't dive headfirst into a swimming pool full of naked supermodels, no matter how "content" they pretended or claimed to be. That's just the way it is.

penny: I forgot to give you bonus points for the "They Live" reference. Go ahead and take a million points. I got nothin' to use 'em for, they're just sitting here.

She was actually more attractive (IMO) before she started getting so much surgery (I thought she was cutest around 2004, but hey, I think nose freckles are cute). Even in her Transformers days I could see the appeal. But around 2009 (after she got the boot from Bayformers 3, you'll note), she started looking very... plastic. Seriously, look at pics of her from 2004 to 2007. Then take a look at shots of her from 2009 to the current date.

I think it's going to be very weird 30 years from now when all of our current crop of celebrities look like Joan Rivers. (Is it too soon for that joke? I don't know, but I'm going there.)

Leo - I think They Live should be required watching for pretty much everyone. They ought to be showing that movie in schools, yo. But thanks for the points - I hope they're redeemable for a lap dance.

I find it intriguing that people act like the things in these movies aren't actually coming to pass.

I mean how corporations keep us lulled into an uncaring, bewildered "sleep" through subliminal messages in their entertainment and advertising that completely control the way we think and how we live our lives. Not that it's all secretly being done by aliens.

TMNT is actually a really great example. "People will like it, because we tell them they have to, that they 'are not a True Fan' if they don't, and create a cloud of dismissal around anyone who dissents." Once you KNOW they're doing it, I don't see how people can fall for it. But they do!

I guess it's like how an entire generation can grow up watching "Terminator", and yet still push for a world where we're all hyper-dependent on technology, despite knowing full-well how easily that can (and will) turn out to be a mistake. "Because movies are just entertainment". No, actually, the best ones can actually teach you something.

Doesn't shock me that people miss the easy ones. Disappoints me, sure, but doesn't shock me.

IndigoErth 01-29-2015 10:01 PM

Ya know, with so much product placement, maybe it would be easier to consider it one long Super Bowl commercial. :P Get some team jerseys on those linebacker Turtles and they're all set. (Damn I wish I was gifted with making impressive fan art, I'd SO go make something Super Bowl themed with these guys.)
