How do people display their old tmnt vhs tapes?
 

I am wonder how people display their old vhs tapes because I am debating on hunting the old classics in this manner. Any pointers from people? :)

I keep all of mine in a big shoebox that's decorated with some stickers.

Mine are in the unplanned Retro Corner book case in my living room.
Right next to a vhs Tiny Toon Adventure tape, Darkwing Duck nightlight, 2-XL (8 track) and these great "learn to read" books I had as a kid.
They have small vinyl records on the pages and come with a tiny record player to listen to them.

Yeah mine's on a shelf too, all TMNT VHS tapes only.

People still keep their VHS tapes? Why? Once they started releasing the show on DVD all the tapes went directly into the trash.

There's literally no reason to keep them with everyone on DVD.

People kept the tapes because they were nostalgic and because they all had cool art work. I have every single episode downloaded for every tmnt show yet I still got my tapes. Not everyone thinks a like.

That is not the same as tapes as you know it. Lots of people like their books/comics physical over digital. However VHS tapes are immediately obsolete since DVDs have the same episodes in better quality and quantity. They're literally just useless junk.

I can understand keeping something on VHS that never got a DVD release if there's no other way to watch it, but for something on DVD? Why? Its like being a hoarder or a pack-rat.

It's exactly the same, and you know it.
Why keep newsprint pages around that will decay and fade over time, when you can have lossless images forever. Not only that, but lossless images that take up a micron of the space as floppies.

Keeping a VHS of something you have on DVD is the same as not wanting to buy books/comics digitally? Not really, some people have to physically hold something to read it and would never want to own it digitally.

For TV shows we watch on TV, keeping an obsolete VHS tape over something you have on DVD is pointless.

So you're saying that keeping media on an obsolete format is pointless when there's a better format to consume that media from?

Print comics are obsolete, when compared to digital.
cds are obsolete, when compared to MP4.
DVDs are obsolete, when compared to .avi.

So you're going to trash your comics, dvds, and cds...right?
Or, you know...maybe you could come down from your high-horse and accept that people collect different things for their own reasons, none of which are pointless to them.

You can't read a digital comic when there's no power, but you can read a real one. But both DVD's & VHS tapes are useless without power. Not totally the same.

The point is I don't buy digital comics. I buy comics (or trades) and leave it at that. There is no point to own both physical and digital. One or the other is fine.

I haven't bought a music CD since the 90's.

Again I buy blu-rays but I don't buy digital. But you can be sure that I sold off my DVD collection when I upgraded to blu-ray. Just like I got rid of VHS...what the hell is the point of owning the same movie on both DVD and blu-ray? There's no point.

Hardly. DVDs are far superior to AVI files. CDs are far superior to digital audio files.

I stop buying physical comic books, everything is digital now on my ipad. :tlove: So easy to go through any volumes, save space and I can bring it anywhere I go.

Use a power bank. iPad is independent power like mobile phone, so you can still use it even if your house blackout.


Speaking of VHS tapes, their quality deteriorates when you keep using them often. Thank God for digital, dvd and blu rays.

I can't see the problem with keeping vhs tapes. Like what has been said already, awsome artwork and when you watch em, they have that nostalgic feel to em.
It's like new and old cars. New cars have no character at all. Driving an old car is so much more enjoyable Imo...

What's the big deal? Some people still collect records - same thing, IMO.

I'll raise my hands and admit that I've bought some 1990s PC games a couple of years ago. Are they going to work on my current PC? Not really but they're cool to have. :)

I currently have them in a carousel that holds around 60 tapes. It currently has both Fred Wolf and 4kids VHS tapes. Of course as of late I've found a new love affair with VHS- hunting old content for material. I haven't found much TMNT-related (a couple of Season 6 episodes from Saturday Morning TV on CBS on a Beta tape), but I have tape traded for a few other episodes of not just the OT but much, much more (see my Youtube Channel). Of course prerecorded tapes don't appeal as much (unless if there's no DVD/streaming version) unless there is a sentimental feel or die-hardness about the product. If I/my parents had understood the concept to recording off of TV better though, maybe we could have taped those episodes since it would have been more cost-effective anyways (especially at EP mode which could hold a dozen episodes). At least FHE was smart to release these at SP speed since many children's tapes were cheaply made at EP speed. I still like to hunt down original broadcasts (and then burn/transfer them onto the DVD/the cloud) since that was the original way we've watched these, complete with commercials and sometimes with a voiceover promo during the closing credits (especially during the earlier seasons).

We're collectors in our household, ;) We have comic books and lots of video games too. Tho I did have to get rid of my old recordings off TV of OT TMNT (from USA Cartoon Express) because those were in boxes in the closet and we were literally running out of room. I only kept the official VHS tapes, on that shelf I was mentioning.

My wife and I actually still have all of ours, but most are in storage. At one point we planned to sell them, but that point was about 7 years ago when there were at least a few grandparents who would still buy VHS tapes. But now even grandparents have DVD/Blu-Ray players. :lol:

I'm glad I kept all my wrestling tapes, though, because when I ever get around to hooking up my VHS-to-DVD recorder, I'm going to have a massive collection of stuff that might never be seen again in its unedited format.

All I have of TMNT is the four Burger King VHS tapes they had in 1990 or whenever, though. :trazz: I never really got the tapes as a kid because the episodes were on for two hours every day and I wasn't exactly getting sick of them, but if I wanted to see a certain episode I didn't need to have it on tape, I just needed to wait a week or so.

I watched way too much TV as a kid. I had the programming schedules of my favorite shows memorized, so I could plan my afternoon around an episode I'd seen too often, or make sure not to make plans if I'd figured out a show was rolling over to its first episode on a certain day. I knew which episodes aired in which order and everything. "So Monday's the episode of Full House when Stephanie's scared to go to Kindergarten... I'll go ride my bike instead. But if I count four days ahead, if I remember right, that means Friday is gonna be the episode where Uncle Jesse falls off his motorcycle and breaks his arms, and that one's pretty funny, so I'll be sure and catch that one." I was baaad with that. :lol:

I gave mine to a kid years ago. Regret it despite the DVDs I own. The box art is awesome.

BUT....I'm gonna...*gulp* defend Cybercubed. He's comparing one form of physical media to another. Comparing VHS to DVD is like comparing CDs to Audio Cassettes. MP3 and .avi/.mkv and other digital media may be superior, but there will always be dinosaurs like me who prefer physical media.

Though to be fair, I still love my old VHS tapes and LPs.

I threw away most of my old CDs and DVDs, in preference to blu ray and digital.

What's wrong with him keeping VHS tapes? It's not about the actual episodes but more about the item. It's no different than those who have old TMNT licensed food in their collection or any other piece in a collection, it has a value for that reason. Not to mention for the owner the commercials and intros might be nostalgic, I know I've looked up VHS commercials/intros on youtube before.


I don't understand how you can call VHS clutter and not DVDs when you have a digital format available. I don't like having DVDs on my shelf anymore but if someone does then good for them and if they want VHS tapes then that's no different..


Anywho, I sold my TMNT VHS tapes to a dromer here years ago, I believe it was Jephael and I do kind of miss having the commercials from before since they're nostalgic to me but I'm happy that another TMNT fan was able to enjoy something.

I have VHS tapes of the first 3 movies, as well as the bonus feature ones. Also, things like Operation Blue Line and anything that hasn't been released on DVD (except for Getting Down in Your Town, still looking for it). I only have a couple OT episodes on VHS, and no 2k3 or NM VHS tapes, and no need for them. I need to get a VHS storage box to keep them in, no need to display them. Right now they're just stacked loose in their boxes.

Edit: I also have a few dozen non-TMNT movies on VHS too, that I have no need to rebuy in another format. It's rare that I like something other than TMNT enough to care whether I have VHS, DVD, or Blu Ray.

I miss the BK commercials! I also agree with others that I loved the artwork on the covers.

i kept my burger king kids club april foolish. the movie was too crowded to see so my dad took me to burger king to at least get a tmnt toon and treat.

i also kept all the tmnt vhs tape covers for more tmnt memorabilia.

Do pelple still save the food? I just thought they save the boxes!

They might, it's not as if the food is biodegradable...

These were always awesome, I loved the BK promo commercials on the TMNT VHS tapes. I own both Sky Turtles and April Fool's on VHS, as well as the first movie.

I too enjoy collecting the VHS tapes for the nostalgic value, the box art and promo's before the feature presentation alone make them great collector's items! Plus, owning VHS tapes always bring back fond memories of the good old days at the video store. Heck, I just won a bunch of tapes off of ebay recently. :tsmile:

Collecting grammophone records has become a trend in recent years. I don't know how long it will last, but right now it's in again.
