Unlock the Original TMNT Arcade Game on Gamecube?
What's up true believers?! If anyone remembers awhile back, I posted a topic on here about writing to Konami to remake the original TMNT arcade game for next-gen systems due to the piss-poor conversion we got all got way back in the day for the old-crappy NES. Don't everyone all get their hopes up too high just yet, but I think we may get our wish (as long as you own a Gamecube, GBA, and a link cable.) If you check out EBgames.com's web site, you'll see that the Gamecube version of TMNT is priced at $49.99, while the PS2 and Xbox versions are only $39.99. Also, if you take a closer look at the box for the Gamecube version, it says "Only for Nintendo Gamecube" at the top. If that wasn't enough to get you excited yet, the new issue of EGM #171 says that the Gamecube version of TMNT will link up with the GBA version to unlock hidden features. Hmm.....could Nintendo have had some sort of talk with Konami ($$$) to come up with another Metroid Prime/Metroid Fusion link-up which will allow you to unlock the original TMNT arcade game on Gamecube once you beat the GBA version? Well if they did, Konami and Nintendo just won $80 from me! A reviewer for the Gamecube version of TMNT on EBgames.com (though I don't know how credible their source is) states that the Gamecube version includes the original arcade game and is also 4 players, unlike the other versions. I really hope they're right, because that sounds AWESOME! Nintendo really needed to do something to make up for that crap they dumped on us some 13 years ago at Christmas called "TMNT 2: The Arcade Game" and claiming in Nintendo Power magazine to be "arcade perfect". Ya, whatever Nintendo. I think it's time to trade in that piece of crap called a Nintendo in for a Sega Genesis so I get good graphics and sound and a system that works when I turn the power on. But if I can play an arcade perfect version of the original TMNT arcade game on my Gamecube, I forgive you Nintendo! Please post if you know anything on the new TMNT game for Gamecube.

Hmm... I don't quite believe that it's four player but I almost believe that the arcade game is part of the package which would obviously be four player. I know if this guy isn't lying then I'll be buying this game for sure (not that I wasn't already bent on doing so).

That would be interesting... But you can play it today on MAME too.

Man, and i just pre-ordered the PS2 version just last week.
|
Sounds too good to be true.

I've heard that on alot better sites than EBgames.com which is usually where stupid rumors start. People just post up reviews and they're just losers who've never played or probably even seen the game besides in videos on the net. There's very little truth to what any of them say. They did have a piece on it at IGN though. When a Konami rep was asked about it he just said "no comment" which in the videogame business is usually a yes.

$50 bucks at EB? Now I'm glad I preordered it at Gamestop where it's only $40.....
|
I never preorder anything. I found Wind Waker and Dynasty Warriors 4 only days after they were released with no trouble at all.

It probably does have an extra feature though. Or maybe nintendo just really enjoys ripping people off. |

Note, that that wasn't sarcasm. I really did find it! And it was only 69.99! But GTA3 was 79.99..weird people at BestBuy. |

I hate Gamestop. They repackage used merchendise and sell it for a new price. I don't pre order unless there is a bonus. F-Zero GX didn't come with one here, so I camped outside Best Buy 2 hours before they opened. I was the first person in town to get it. Mario Kart Double Dash comes with a Demo Disc, so I'll be pre ordering that. Get the Game Cube version. If it might have the arcade game on it, I'd pay $20 extra without a second thought.

Yeah, I should've gotten the Gamecube version. The only reason I didn't is because the system I got it for is on a pretty big TV, and I wanted to play the game on a bigger screen. But I might take it back, and settle for a smaller screen, but the game system I like.

Doubtful. Untill IGN says something, I'm taking this with a cup of salt. =\.

They said "No Comment" on the arcade game being an unlockable. As for 4 player I haven't heard anything about it at all. I'd also like to know what's up with the TMNT pre-order? I'll drop some money on it if it comes with free stuff. Otherwise I'll pick it up when I get the chance. As of right now October is looking like a super busy month.

As much as id like having the original arcade game on it (dispite having the original dedicated 4 player machine in my garage) i just dont think its gonna happen. |
Well now, on EBgames.com's web site they've lowered the price of the Gamecube version to $39.99 like the other versions and it no longer says "Only for Nintendo Gamecube". So either the original arcade game being included was scrapped or it will be available on all platforms. If they canceled the arcade game being included I will still buy it but I will be VERY disappointed. Can anyone confirm whether the arcade game was canceled or not??

EB is giving out a random mini-TMNT figure. I got mine at Gamestop, you get a reprint of the first issue of the DW TMNT series. Can anyone confirm if they shortened the comic up a bit for the preorder bonus? I wasn't able to find a first issue when it came out, so I have nothing to compare it to.
As far as Gamecube's "only for" tagline, whenever they put it on there, there's some kind of exclusivity. The only game I've owned which it seemed a bit odd to have it on the package for was Capcom Vs. SNK 2 EO. The game itself came out on other systems, but since there were modes specifically for the Gamecube version, they must've figured it warranted an "only for" tag, which I thought was kinda stretching it. I noticed the "only for" on EB's site as well, but figured it was just a mistake? |
