"Me,me,me" Generation
I think we live in an era where people are more selfish. They feel entitled to have everything in their possession. And when they don't get it, they criticize and shame other people besides themselves for it. If its not that, they just want attention for themselves, and not care about anyone else. And if its still not that, they want to force their opinions and beliefs on everyone else. They want to be morally superior. I really hate today's society.
Does anyone else feel that way? |
What an original observation.

Haha, I thought a mod had re-named the "I wish I was dead" thread.
Anyway, your quip applies to you as well, bud. You're constantly preaching this fat-acceptance sh*t like we & the world should adhere to your beliefs. So congrats on being part of the problem. Quote:

Why am I not surprised PK made this thread?

I dunno about morally superior and all that, but there is certainly a strong "Yay me!" instant gratification generation presently with plenty of people who seem to think they are supposed to be treated like VIPs or something for no legit reason.

Damn, this thread got good before I even got here!
Anyone want popcorn? I brought plenty. :tgrin: |

People suck. Welcome to real life. |
Why do people act like this is some new concept? Its been like this since the dawn of mankind.
People really think the 50's-90's are any different than now? The entire span of human history is just people killing each other to gain more land and more power. What do you think war is about? |
With the Instagrams, Facebooks and Twitters of the internet and the instant gratification of likes and comments it's no surprise that it's become way worse these days than it ever has been. It has always been like that but these factors have kind of elevated that self centered and selfish part of people and brought it out more.

Gotta blame trains/cars/planes - we got there faster; tv remotes - didn't have to get up; microwaves - food was ready quicker; elevators - no more walking up the stairs, etc etc etc. Always been out to make everything more of a convenience.
Now it's like "Omg the webpage is taking eight seconds to load, I can not deal with this!"  Seriously, even the microwave often takes too long now, right? lol We are a very lazy species. Even the least lazy isn't about to do everything the hard way. But I'd have to say, yes, it's noticeably gotten worse in the last couple of decades and it doesn't help that you've got these kids now that were born right into having it all "right now," so it's like they're automatic setting. Everything is sooner, faster, hyped up. Just look at how slow paced some/many older cartoons seem now compared to many of today. Patience isn't encouraged enough anymore. It's all just NOW, or people are mad they had to wait and/or work for it. |

PK, try looking at it as a challenge if it frustrates you personally. Life is full of lessons; and when dealing with difficult people you may be surprised to what you learn about them and yourself. I'm still learning to do this myself. I deal with buttmunches on a regular basis at work. Life is a journey though! When you find yourself in a rut, that's okay but try not to let yourself get stuck for too long! |
But... but humanity has always been this way.
It's just more noticeable since we can observe it more: TV, social media, videos, etc. give us a look at a far wider range of people than ever before. |
My mind went to something else when seeing "Me,me,me"...
Oh well. Like others said. People suck. |

You do realize that this isn't special to this current generation, and that we as people are selfish creatures anyway, right? This can apply to every generation, but with each passing generation, it's probably getting worse. I'm sure our parents complained about our generation and their parents before them and their parents before them, etc.

“The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise.”
― Socrates 470/469 – 399 BC  |
 It would be interesting to see a good detailed account of the behaviors and what was considered so bad for the time. And said "luxuries."
Youth. All had to have the newest iStone or iClay tablet (or iScroll where available). :P |

People ALWAYS think their generation is the best one.

I'm sorry, I got distracted by the, "Please Pay Attention To ME" tone of the original post. What was the point again?
|
I bet the topic creator thought everyone was gonna be like "wow! You are absolutely right! We would never have noticed if it weren't for you! Time to right our wrongs!"
|
I'm sorry everyone. I just noticed that there is more selfishness and entitlement more than ever now. Maybe its just the internet. It's easier to write mean comments and get away with it. I am sorry if I annoyed you all.

We are all a-holes. Some of us just like to watch the world burn. Or, y'know, forum flame up. Popcorn, anyone? |
Am not... :trazz:

Not so much. It was more like a, "I realize grass is green. Anyone agree?" kind of topic, and people expressed their disinterest.

But the problem is, PK does this and acts like he/she is a victim every time. He/she has even gone so far as to do this in the Nickelodeon TMNT section and talked about fat shaming. So, PK is part of the problem.
