TMNT Box

Looks like the turtles are getting into the sub blind box craze. They're selling three versions, one for the classic turtles (80's), the modern tmnt (Nick) and the C-C-C-Combo box that mixes both 80s and nick ones. I probably won't get it cause it didn't really impress me and I already own some of the figures, caps and shirts anyways.

I can't help but notice that they left out the 2k3.

turtlefanforever 06-05-2015 10:10 PM

hmm

where are you seeing this? But awesome!! I'm excited

Coola Yagami 06-05-2015 10:31 PM

JonesyKitty 06-05-2015 11:58 PM

I will probably end up doing this at least once to test wether I think it's worth it or not and given how much i have after bills, etc each month. But I seriously want that Bebop N Rocksteady shirt in the picture of the retro box!

Which brings me to my opinion on this whole thing: Great idea, not so great execution. This is stuff you can get anywhere, as far as I can tell.

TheCanadiandrome 06-06-2015 12:40 AM

I'm gonna have to think on this. May be something to look into after my summer holidays

turtlefanforever 06-06-2015 02:37 PM

omg

if only i had the funds. i'd be doing this all year round

If he ain't got the visor he ain't Bebop. I know he's drawn like that because of copyright/licensing issues, but I just ain't feelin' it.

soo

Anyone have further clarification on the big difference between the ages/sizes of these things. It goes from Youth to "Adult XXXL" .. WTF? lol they're all the same price too.

Also if you're wondering you save $48 buying the whole year instead of monthly installments.

and if you did 4 3 months it'd come out to $215.40

2 6 months $203.40

Every month = $239.40

There was some discussion here a while back on another thread about why the designs were different. I can't remember the specifics of it, but it boiled down to copyright issues.

I feel like I'm repeating myself over and over on this board... this isn't how copyright works!

Also those are the same glasses on this official control art semi-based on Mutatin' Bebop.

I don't really care what you "feel like", I'm only relaying what was said before and like I said I don't remember the specifics of it. It very well may not have been "copyright" issues, it may have been likeness rights or something similar. Regardless, there IS a specific reason they've been drawn differently on everything that's been released recently.

Powder 06-07-2015 07:39 AM

They have the Fred Wolf likeness as collector's figures, in the IDW comics, film sequel, etc. So I don't see why that would be the case. Personally, I think they (Viacom) inherited some old obscure style guides & didn't bother to have anyone make more accurate versions of the characters. I don't believe it's an issue with FW, & this seems to be backed by the fact there are t-shirts featuring other characters with their Fred Wolf designs, such as Wingnut & Screwloose, Casey Jones, Metalhead, & others.

slashpieturtlemix 06-07-2015 10:57 AM

Yeah I think they got permission for this shirt. This appears to be a legit shirt that is sold in bulk. Now if you bought this shirt from a t-shirt making store in the mall... then they are doing it illegally lol

Actually one if the draws of these sub blind boxes is that it costs cheaper getting then in the boxes than if you had bought them seperately. Most of the time just a shirt or figure included would have cost almost half the price of the whole box if you bought it elsewhere. You DO get some exclusives but most if the time it is a collection of stuff could find elsewhere.

As for me, I'm iffy on it. I really don't care for the bootleg-drawn retro stuff that's been coming out lately. I know it's all official stuff but that's just NOT how they look like on the old show. Not just the weird outfits, the overall drawing style. Compare that to how the nick stuff ripped the art style right out if the show. Just gimme something that looks official.

Other than that I own most of the figures I care to own and on that front if probably get a repeat or one I didn't care to own. I don't know. It's a good idea but other than a NECA shredder, an April pop vinyl fig and a shirt with that Shredder OBJECTION!! Editted pic I've seen as a sig here and there, there's really nothing I'd want that I don't already have.

You're 100 percent correct. I remember that seeing that version of Bebop on this:

Can't post the image but pretty cool looking, in terms of value definitely worth $20 but if thats the first box i'll pass and hope for a better next one.

Too bad they don't ship to all of Europe. :ohwell:

TheBlueTurtle1 06-08-2015 01:06 PM

Is there any more art or better pics of those Rock n Roll turtles?

TheCanadiandrome 06-08-2015 04:05 PM

i'm gonna seriously conisder this as maybe an early Christmas gift to myself after my holidays in August

turtlefanforever 06-08-2015 09:05 PM

strange

They should lower this price on this. $13.99 has been working for Lootcrate. Still a good deal but loot and nerdblock do it.

Also i assume the sizes are cause shirts come in each box?

Reigner 06-09-2015 06:19 AM

2 Problems I see with this.

1) Price. I think at $25 shipped this puts it at one of the more expensive sub boxes out there. I mean Naturebox is $25 and it's at least tasty looking foodstuffs. I guess that's the price for a specifically random box of junk as opposed to Lootcrates completely random box of junk.

2) Contents. Anything from NickTMNT will be stuff that we all either already have or can easily get off the shelf, probably on clearace or in discount stores. And sadly the Classic Box will obviously be Classic -inspired-, meaning any current Classic-related merc that can ALSO be currently bought on shelves.

Now if the classic box had promises of the vintage marbles, or birthday candles, or even original keychains and etc, we'd have something great. But ultimately think I'm gonna pass.

LEO182 06-09-2015 08:49 AM

Anyone seen or know any promo codes for this yet? There is a place to put one so I assume there is some out there. Thanks

Werter85 06-09-2015 01:39 PM

Orderd both classic and modern subscriptions yesterday. Im really looking forward how long shipping takes to Germany :D

turtlefanforever 06-09-2015 03:46 PM

agreed

agreed for the most part. I'm more interested in what the months after the first one hold. Really need to lower that price point!

did it say when the first month is scheduled to ship out?

Coola Yagami 06-09-2015 07:45 PM

I'll wait til I see unboxing videos before making up my mind. Maybe I'll take the plunge once but not monthly.

I would say because this just started so no one has received their very first box yet.

oh yeah right! lol duh!

PangolinFeets 06-10-2015 06:35 PM

I've heard too many war stories with these types of subscriptions. Like many have pointed out, a lot of the stuff you get isn't rare or special. Plus, regardless of when and how you try to cancel, it is notoriously difficult to get off the damn subs once you're on them.

TheCanadiandrome 06-11-2015 08:50 AM

oh crap! well i'll think carefully then. are you saying it automatically renews? isn't there like a short term option?

turtlefanforever 06-11-2015 09:33 AM

yeah

Shipping is always on the 15th. So June 15th should be the first shipment. If you sign up until the 15th youre getting that box.

It automaticaly renews, but you can cancel anytime. I got the monthly sub. for 19.99 but i hqve the option of canceling at any time. If i get the sub. for 12 months its a little cheaper, but i dont the option of cancelation at any time.

senpai 06-11-2015 02:44 PM

This sounds awesome but I'm poor as hell right now. I have no experience with monthly subscribed orders so I can't say if it's a good idea or not. Sounds fun though. And $19.95 sounds reasonable to me. Just taking the image for example: the shirt is about $20, the toy is probably $10-$12, no idea what the other thing is (buttons?) but that's probably $5. So really, I'd say if that's the kind of stuff you're getting every month, it's a good deal. After a year's subscription, you'll have A LOT of TMNT things! lol

ah ty for that information

psychturtle 06-12-2015 10:33 AM

LootCrate was actually very easy to cancel. I'm sure some are moredifficult. The Marvel Box is my favorite so far.

tread carefully
