Casey & April #3 Preview & Discussion
Preview here.
|
I've really enjoyed this series and can't wait to pick this up Wednesday.
|
Yay Pantheon things are gonna happen! :D :D :D
|
Hopefully this is a turning point for this mini...
|
Well that was another slow, dull 4 pages. Ready for this mini to be over.
|
Looks like this issue might start to turn me around on this mini-series. Hopefully this issue does pick up the pace.
|
Rat King and the maze? Promising.
But April and her identity crisis... mmm. Eh. We'll see. |

And if I can find 'em, ya never know... :twink: |
The best thing about this issue? Only one more left to go before it's thankfully over.

That's... it!?
Holy crap, this is the most useless story ever. How do you take characters like Rat King, April, Casey, and the Pantheon and make it boring!? You can literally just take the last page of each issue, read that, and get the full story. That's truly it. I've often said IDW can do no wrong. I've gotta take it back. This is wrong. I still have full faith in the main ongoing story, and I've loved every other story. But this is the first black mark against IDW TMNT. A godawful boring story that should be balls-to-the-walls fantastic. Edit: No matter how better the fourth issue may be, there is no making up for the epic wasted potential of this series. |
Definitely a lot of weird padding here. Whole panels are used just for the characters to say like one line or calling out to each other. Some of the panels take up the whole page, as if this was meant to be a 2-part story that got stretched out to a 4 issue one.
I liked some of the introspective look on the characters personalities but it didn't seem as well done as it could of. |

But Casey? We already know PLENTY about his background after 50 issues (plus the micro-series and mini-series). This story has added nothing. I don't get how you feature Rat King only to have him eat barbeque. That'd be like having Agent Bishop in a story arc, only to ever see him eat sushi while watching the Turtles on his monitor. (Mmmm... sushi.) Where is the violence and mind-f*ckery!? |
So basically to summarize:
One time April was doing a report on birds, but felt like she was putting too much work into it and her dad told her not give up. The End. Oh, and Rat King still likes barbeque. More specifically short-ribs. |

How come Utrom Empire with its rich setting was only three issues long, yet this snoozefest gets four? |
I would have put Spoiler tags, but that didn't seem appropriate and there isn't a "I Just Saved Your Ass $3.99" tag.

But hey, if we set a mousetrap for Rat King, we at least now know to bait it with BBQ. Quote:

I don't know who this "target audience" is they're trying to appeal to, but I imagine they look like this.

Man, you mofos are brutal. I personally enjoyed it.
The art was great again, and I liked that they kept the suspense up from the end of #2. And Red is obviously gonna be a really interesting character. Maybe it was kind of a quick read for 4 bucks, but I'd rather they cut to the chase than be unnecessarily verbose just to make it feel longer. Only criticism I have would be April's flashback being kinda silly. I appreciate they didn't reveal anything ridiculously dramatic about her past just to have more drama for this mini though. |

---- I mentioned in the thread for last episode that this is the Mirage-iest thing the IDW-verse has put out--with the possible and obvious exceptions of the Eastman Annuals--but looking at this issue, the mini-series now seems far more reminiscent of the Archie series, where storyarcs could be about a million different things and somewhat unfocused, in a way that allowed it to explore things a longer attention span would not have allowed for. Either way, I continue to enjoy this arc, which manages to feel satisfyingly different from the more familiar stylings of the main book. |
If you don't like this series, simply don't buy it and don't comment. For me, the series is been interesting. April and Casey finally crossedf the maze in order to find clues about the Pantheon.
Next issue will be the grand finale of this story. |
I like this series it is an interesting sidestep from the turtles series even though there is not a lot of action it does make you think a little. :toops:

I also didnt like it because it dosent have lot of action. But sill read it for the story.
|
In the last issue. We found out Rat King likes BBQ. In this one, we got to see him eat it. Oh. And he stood up. Oooooh. Such suspense! Lol oh and April and Casey walked around. This reminds me of the Archie April May East Saga cause of how bad it is.
|
I'll not nab it till this weekend, but good to know it sounds as gripping as the first two issues.

I don't mind stories like this, but the problem is that right from thestart it was obvious what the story will be like. Casey and April having a quarrel, going seperate ways, having hallucinations. the they somehow coming out of it, and coming together. It's such a cliché... It could be an okay story, but it's told in a really boring way, and while it is a character drama, I still don't think it achieved any major (or even minor) character develepment.
The art is also not very good, e.g. characters facial built changes between panels, etc. |
