So who else is ready to celebrate IDW's 50th issue milestone?

With issue 50 coming out in a month its hard to believe IDW has hit its first big milestone. As someone who followed the series since 2011 when it debuted its hard to believe the series is 4 years old already.

IDW was also the first new TMNT universe since Viacom/Nick bought the TMNT IP, and as such it had a lot to prove by being the first new post-Mirage TMNT series. We didn't know what to expect, if the TMNT license was in good hands or not, or if the series would be successful.

Many of the changes IDW made to the characters have been well received and they've successfully reinvented old characters with new takes. Some of the new characters like Old Hob have become some of the most popular characters in TMNT history already. With issue #50 being a huge climax to the first 4 years of the series its going to be quite the event. And to think afterward we get to see the TMNT crossover with the legendary Batman, something that was nothing more than a pipedream in the minds of fans. Its quite exciting.

Congrats IDW on the big issue 50! Let's hope we hit the big #100 next!

old_hob88 08-27-2015 01:50 PM

I'm so excited for the 50th issue to come out! I've been following the series since the beginning, and have been a fan of the turtles for as long as I can remember. In my mind, IDW's TMNT is the best iteration of the franchise thus far. It's even more exciting because as the TMNT end a chapter in their lives in the comics, I'm ending a chapter in mine as well. Between the release of #50 and #51 I will be beginning a new career and getting married, so it's really fun that the TMNT will hit a huge milestone right as I do as well.

I'm only on issue 7, but I've seen the previews, and I love the art! Happy 50, IDW TMNT! :mango::mango::mango:

909 Turtle Fan 08-27-2015 02:07 PM

I'm excited :thyper: it's going to be very interesting to see how everything plays out, especially with those beast mode freaks Bebop and Rocksteady. Besides other random Mirage and volume 3 stuff, this is the only comic I have ever read and I'm expecting the final battle to be ridiculously awesome. Now if we can only get some comic style action figures :tgrin:

I would kill for IDW comic action figures!

CylonsKlingonsDaleksOhMy 08-27-2015 02:19 PM

I'm absolutely losing my mind with impatient anticipation!!!! They even managed to fit in Leatherhead before the 50th issue!

Now all's I need is Bishop. :trazz: Well, and Donny in his body again... :tsad:

ProphetofGanja 08-27-2015 02:24 PM

I know I am! To me, this is the best iteration of TMNT. I know that's just an opinion, but it's mine, and I respect other points of view. I like pretty much everything IDW has done with the property. I think it took a few issues for them to hit their stride but since then everything has been great (although not so much the Casey & April mini; it had a good premise but I feel like the execution was lacking).

I can't wait to see how the Gauntlet battle plays out, what Leatherhead does, and what direction the story goes post #50. The Batman crossover (although non-canon) is an added bonus, icing on the cake.

Cheers, IDW

ChosenOne 08-27-2015 02:30 PM

Here's hoping the big showdown with Shredder and the rest of the gauntlet can top the brawl we got in #40!

That's all I ask from such a milestone in the best TMNT adaptation ever!

Unworthy tinker 08-27-2015 03:01 PM

I'm only up to issue 44, but it's still exciting. Defiently my favorite. :tparty:

spookycookies 09-01-2015 11:08 AM

I'm extremely excited for this issue. It really does feel like a huge milestone for this amazing book and I can't wait to go and collect all the variants for this one.

Powder 09-01-2015 11:14 AM

I'm gonna try to draw up a big ass tribute picture.

oldmanwinters 09-01-2015 11:45 AM

Not to be a buzzkill, but I am a little grumpy about having to pay more than the normal cover price. Archie Comics does that for some of their recent double-sized anniversary issues. It's understandable, but still a little annoying for tight wads... err, I mean, "thrifty-persons" like myself. :tlol:

Well it's a double sized issue isn't it? The price is based on the page count so that seems fair to me.

Well there's no companion book in October or November, then Batman/TMNT is non canon (and not even an IDW production) and will be running for half a year.

So when you look at it that way, #50 is only about $0.89

boywonder26 09-01-2015 12:56 PM

I'm soooo excited about the 50th issue,I have been reading since #1..the story is great and the art is fantastic..

CyberCubed 09-01-2015 02:10 PM

Anyone wonder if #50 will have a pull out poster? I keep thinking of those 90's comics where they had these huge posters you would tear out of your comic and hang on your bedroom wall or something.

Man I remember I used to have a bedroom filled with posters on the walls.

Heh, I gotta commend you, Nines, your logic is very convincing. :tlol:

TMNT/Batman has been confirmed non canon? Where did you see that?

Powder 09-01-2015 09:42 PM

Bobby said so here on the Drome iirc.

CyberCubed 09-01-2015 10:50 PM

For me, it will be canon. So long as nothing contradicts the main IDW series.

From what we know General Krang tries to get his revenge on the Turtles by transporting them to another dimension which turns out to be the DC universe. If they still show Krang in the Neutrino prison and he somehow teleports them before being recaptured, it can easily fit.

Are we sure the IDW TMNT are involved and not some "iconic" TMNT such as probably Batman in this crossover ?

Powder 09-02-2015 01:59 AM

Pretty sure Bobby said they were IDW inspired but not necessarily IDW's turtles. So they'd kinda be their own thing, I guess. DC universe TMNT, one might say! Trippy.

Pretty sure they're intended to be the IDW Turtles. Its their comic license, General Krang was mention in the summary who only appeared in IDW, etc. Why not just "Krang" or "The Kraang" instead of "General Krang?" Meaning its IDW's Krang.

Shaddup already.

I'm assuming this "inspired/based on" caveat is simply so that DC doesn't have to worry about toeing the continuity line and introducing plotholes/inconsistencies/contradictions into the ongoing line.

So if everything goes exactly right, there will be no reason that this version can't be "our" TMNT. But if any inconsistencies or weirdness happens in the tale, then it's covered, because it's just a parallel version of TMNT.

Does that make sense? I don't know if I'm right, but I assume that's what's going on.

I think it's also to avoid future problems with re-printing. Probably a little of both, cover plotholes and prevent it from being a mainline publication of the IDW TMNT, since this may get a TPB/Hardcover print soon after its conclusion, but will, like many crossovers, never see another print after that.

It could even have been a caveat from DC.

"We'll do your little TMNT crossover, but we don't want to have to bother about fitting into your continuity and timeline."

You never know. I mean, except for TMNT's various Image crossovers, it seems like all of the old-school TMNT crossovers were utterly random in their timeline. Oh, except for Cerebus; that was pretty clearly early Mirage. I dunno, I try to avoid those early crossovers, so maybe I'm just blithering mindlessly right now. Like, more so than normal for me. :twink:

Joey Kamikaze 09-02-2015 03:54 PM

Given the high quality of modern DC comics (note the heavy sarcasm), it's probably for the best that this crossover isn't canon, especially if it's being done in-house over at DC.

I doubt they'll screw up a TMNT crossover. The fact that Bruce is Batman in this crossover rather than Gordon running around in a robot Bat-suit like in current DC proves it'll be a classic and safe tale with recognizable characters.

spookycookies 09-02-2015 04:43 PM

This is very disappointing about the Batman mini. I guess I was out of the loop about it but from what I'm seeing we are really getting boned here.

1. These aren't "our" IDW Turtles, just vaguely inspired generic Mikey,Donnie,Raph & Leo. This story will have NO impact whatsoever or inform on the IDW TMNT universe.

2. Even though apparently all of the work is being done over on DC's side of the fence this book is taking up the spot where the mini/micro book would go each month. So now there's going to be more than half a year where we have to go without a companion book to the main title.

Man I love IDW's TMNT I hate to see the book shrink for half a year. I'm really hoping Batman is worth this hiatus for the mini/micro book. It it too much to ask for 25 books a year in this universe?

Gordon will have a mustache, Alfred will have both hands, Bruce will be Batman... who knows, Babs might even be in a wheelchair! :teek:

Metropoliskid41 09-02-2015 09:54 PM

Yeah I'm going to get nervous anytime they have the Turtles on the rooftops. You never know what DC is going to do when Batman is prowling rooftops, but he apparently likes to get funky.

TheMasterTurtle 09-13-2015 10:23 AM

I'm excited but as a cover completist I'm sickened. I'm questioning continuing to collect idw

I feel exactly the same way. I know I don't have to buy them but it's just too damn tempting. They really should calm down on the billion covers though, I'm sure it gets confusing to the newbie/casual collector.

ChosenOne 09-20-2015 07:18 AM

I had a dream last night that two panels from #50 had leaked, I guess brought on by how many times I've read about Raph taking out someone's eyes.

The first panel had the 4-on-4 battle rage on in the background while Bebop with his shades off, looking panicked, was trying to pick himself up from the floor, having just been blinded by a strobe effect (Metalhead? Nobody's suit?) still visible in the panel, and Raph approaching him while in the foreground Splinter said that he (Raph) knew what must follow... And the second panel was a gory discretion shot of Raph stabbing Bebop's eyes with his sais.

I doubt we'll get anything remotely resembling this, but it's my first TMNT dream ever and contributes to the #50 hype, so I figured it was worth mentioning.

ToTheNines 09-20-2015 06:09 PM

Soooo stupidly psyched.

Bobby Curnow posted that picture on the 14th, announcing that 50 was approved to print. Can anyone make out the two characters on the far right?

boywonder26 09-20-2015 06:41 PM

I'm going with kitsune and alopex...and does that mean that it'll be out at the end of the month?

ToTheNines 09-20-2015 06:45 PM

Alopex is on the left.

BC says he thinks October 7th. I guess it still stands a chance to make the 30th if we're lucky.

"Why not let the heavens be witness to your doom?" HOLY F***, that's awesome! :o Rooftop battle just like in the 2003 cartoon!

It's most likely Karai and Kitsune on the far right.

boywonder26 09-20-2015 07:34 PM

Can not wait for this...
