Ace Duck
 

So was Ace Duck ever an actual character from any kind of story arc or cartoon episode or anything, or was he just made to sell toys? I had his action figure when I was little and it was one of my all-time favorites! Alas that is all I personally ever knew of the Ace Duck...

He was a character in the archie comics, a big beefy wrestler that was champion of the intergalactic league. He didn't resemble the toy at all. Strangely enough the toy was based on a Cartoon being played in the the TMNT Cartoon's universe that the turtle were watching. But When I was little I paired him up with Merdude and made em best friends as a poor man's mutanimal group, that had em face off against Two Face and the Dr Kilimov from the Toxic Crusaders.

Ace Duck is hated by most TMNT writers/directors. The Nick cartoon made fun of him by showing his picture getting torn to shreds when Baxter pitched it to Shredder as a mutant, and the original cartoon showed him as a character on a TV show instead of a real character. Then Murphy turned him into an alien completely different than what he's supposed to be.

Ace Duck is doomed to never have an actual role in anything.

How sad! He made for an awesome action figure!! Lol

There's literally nothing to suggest that Ace Duck is "hated by most TMNT writers/directors", that's just Cybercubed being a goof.

He probably won't ever get his "fair due" but that could be said of many toyetic TMNT characters. Oh well. At any rate, yeah, he was developed to be a mere toy, nothing more.

Well considering the character has existed since when...1988 or so, and has had virtually no screentime or presence in 25 years of TMNT history says a lot in itself.

Hated & being thought of as too boring/weird/whatever are very different things, 'ole chap!

I miss his awesome bomber's jacket and his egg-like grenades...

He was apparently liked enough for Murphy to use him in multiple issues of the Archie series and put him into the TMNT Mutant Universe Sourcebook A-M volume.

What's there to miss? Just get (or display/stare at, assuming you have it already) the toy.

In my head he sounds like John Travolta or Jimmy Stewart.

To the original poster. I happen to LOVE Ace Duck. He was always one of my favourite characters, and one I never thought got his proper due. I always imagined his as a bad ass fighter pilot/spy. Remember there are no truly bad characters, only bad writing.

I still hold out hope that Ace Duck will re-appear somewhere, sometime.

I'm pretty sure it was the other way around.

It was rather obvious Ace Duck was only created to capitalize on the success of all the Disney duck characters who had their own shows in the 80's, like Scrooge Mcduck and his nephews, Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, etc.

Or to, you know, mock it.

That's what I always thought, too. Ace was pretty obviously a parody of Launchpad. Not that that is a bad thing, mind you. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and all....

Really if we're going for toy only characters that need more attention I vote Scale Tail.

I completely agree with you! Ace Duck will get his due..someday..somehow..when the world least expects it...(I hope!). Lol

I love Duck Tales!! I love Donald too..and Darkwing Duck..now that I think of it..I think I may have a thing for duck characters..LoL.

Hey, you're not alone. I have a thing for ducks, too. In fact, I married one, LOL!

I dug Ace Duck as a kid too. I liked having him as one of the only good guys to use guns and grenades.

One memory I have about Ace Duck is the Intergalactic Wrestling comic. It's the one with Crying Hound and the 4 turtles fighting.

I just remember him showing off against Leatherhead until he catches him off-guard.

If anyone remembers the tape cassette that came with that comic, he sounds funny.

As far as on the TV series, I never watched that far to see him.

Haha! That is something unique about the Heroes division of the old TMNT line. But don't forget that April O'Neil's old action figures also included a concealed handgun. Too bad she didn't get clearance to use that in the show. :tlol:

well, was ace duck an off screen test subject of Baxter stockmans? It looked like a photo.

I am also a big fan of this kind of cartoon ducks.

When I was a kid, I read a lot of Disney comics that featured the adventures of Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Scrooge McDuck and gang. And watched Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, Daffy Duck.
And saw the beginning of the Howard the Duck movie... to be interrupted by grown-ups and I was left hanging for many, many years.

And that's why I think the classic Ace Duck needs a proper appearance in other media.

I like Ace, too, but my guess is the toy company - or whoever generated the design, might have been a Mirage guy - created him as sort of an homage to another underground comic, Destroyer Duck. After all, Jack Kirby was the artist, and the Mirage guys were well known Kirby fans. Also, Destroyer Duck was parodying Marvel (Howard the Duck) and the TMNT guys were no stranger to parodying Marvel comics.

If I remember correctly, Ace Duck's profile on his packaging says he's supposed to be the pilot of the Turtle Blimp. I guess the old cartoon writers (thankfully) realized that was kinda stupid and decided not to use him.

The Archie alien wrestler version of him on the other hand, was pretty cool, and to me the definitive version of the character (as opposed to the toy, I guess). But, I usually always did prefer the Archie interpretations of the various mutant/alien animal characters created for the toyline to the TV versions anyway. :)
