Does anybody else hate Casey from the Nick TMNT cartoon?

I loved the Casey Jones character from back in the day, but Casey from the Nick show is horrible! He is an idiot, who always just causes problems. The "This is awesome" comment from the end of the season 3 finale pretty much sums it up.

VaughnMichael 10-01-2015 06:59 AM

I don't care for him very much myself.

Shark_Blade 10-01-2015 08:11 AM

The comment at the end of Season 3 was dumb, but other than that I have nothing to complain much about his character.

plastroncafe 10-01-2015 08:44 AM

Nope.

Ceres 10-01-2015 08:57 AM

He and April are on my top hate list for the new cartoon lol. I just hate teenage Casey...he is just...i can't stand him :/

IndigoErth 10-01-2015 10:33 AM

Hate, no, though I do find him a bit annoying.

Luckyday 10-01-2015 10:42 AM

He seem more like his age but just a little less mellow.

I don't know. He had always been cocky so it doesn't bother me as much.

plastroncafe 10-01-2015 10:47 AM

Of the teenagers represented on that show, he's the only one who acts his age.

Autbot_Benz 10-01-2015 11:28 AM

I like Nick Casey he is awesome. He is kind of an inventor too with his Exploding hockey pucks that shock thing on the end of his glove etc

Metropoliskid41 10-01-2015 12:37 PM

Hate him? No. But the Nick TMNT version of Casey is definitely my least favorite take on him.

Powder 10-01-2015 12:48 PM

I don't hate him, & I absolutely love his design, but he can get on my nerves at times.

more or less this

Huzzah 10-01-2015 03:15 PM

He at least can believably participate in the fighting, unlike April, who I genuinely hate in this show. Large and far my last favorite version of April. Casey is tolerable, though the only time I've ever really liked Casey is in the live action films, none of the other versions have even come close to matching thar representation.

GoldMutant 10-01-2015 03:44 PM

I don't hate this version of Casey, but wish more can be done with him. Good design and Josh Peck does a decent job with the character, but he is probably one of the weaker versions of the character.

I seriously wish though if Casey has the friend that destroyed their hockey championship opportunity, the guy gets voiced by Drake Bell. Please make it happen.

I don't understand. You don't like him but you think he's awesome?

I like him fine.

ssjup81 10-01-2015 04:49 PM

I don't hate/dislike Casey or any character of this series. It's super rare for me to legit dislike or hate a character and it's usually characters that are super selfish, don't care about others (Light from Deathnote for example), those who act as if they're better than those around them (Kiyomi from Deathnote/Ayeka from Tenchi, for example), those who treat others unfairly or don't seem to show appreciation (ChibiUsa from the original Sailor Moon anime...liked her fine for the manga), etc. Casey doesn't fit any of these traits. He cares about his friends, city, and family. Can't dislike him for that. I don't favor him, but I don't dislike him either, as for me, I have favorites and non-favorites. I also like the fact that he acts his age...a cocky (this is a trait of Casey in general), impulsive (hm, this feels very Casey-ish too), teen.

The only thing I can think of that did legitimately bug me was his "awesome" line at the end of the finale, unless they are going to have him in denial, then I'll take it back and would want Raph to be the one to react to it.

Cure 10-01-2015 04:55 PM

What is people's problem with that line? I legitimately don't understand.

Really? Ok, his planet was completely destroyed. Everyone and everything he once knew are gone. A robot comes and says you're going on a space adventure.

To me, it was like...

*Earth is destroyed*

Casey: :-(

Fugitoid: *dangles keys*. Your planet is gone and everyone you cared about are dead, but hey, look at the shiny keys!

Casey: Shiny! Cool!

That's how it felt to me, like how when a toddler may fall or trip abd you quickly do something so that they don't notice the pain or discomfort. I don't see how he could switch like that. It felt very out of place given what just happened.

LeotheLateBloomer 10-01-2015 05:11 PM

I don't hate this version of Casey but he's definitely not one of my favorite takes of the character. I know he's a teenager but he can be a jock sometimes. Flirts with April, then flirts with Karai, and enjoys being kissed by her. After that, I'm starting to have doubts of the idea of pairing April with this guy even though it's suppose to be this way.:ohwell:

Yeah, but Casey tends to live in the moment and he is in denial. So he is using the fact they are going on an adventure in space to distract him from the heavier subject that their planet and everyone they knew has just been destroyed.

Which yes is like dangling key's in front of a child to distract them.

For example my Room Mate enjoys watching Gray's anatomy so I saw Casey's reaction as being not all that different then this

While Izzy is acting like an asshole by laughing at the fact one of her friends just died right now, the impact of George's death really hits her later on in that episode.

cryan 10-01-2015 05:22 PM

In the end you are not going to please everybody.

Oh. I don't really see it that way, but whatevs. I just see it as a line that's meant to be like "You hear that, kids?! They're going to space! Be excited!".

Also he's not very bright. He just might not understand the gravity of the situation.

Shark_Blade 10-02-2015 07:19 AM

Casey's sister and parents(?) ARE DEAD. And his first reaction after seeing earth's destruction and offered an outerspace adventure was: "this is awesome"?

That's just plain retarded tbh. I blame the stupid writers.

shinefra 10-02-2015 12:14 PM

I really don’t like this Casey, he is retarded and annoying as hell. I don't hate him, but if he dies, I would care as much as he cared for the destruction of his family and home planet.

That's why I'm hoping it picks up where it left off.

I just think he just slightly underuse or not really given a lot of screen time to the hidden depth of his character due the nature of this show being very fast pace and action oriented. Character development is not really the focus of this show. I could say the same for plenty of other characters.

In a nutshell, Casey is a overconfident idiot who likes going into situations that are way over his head. He a complete counter point to April, who unlike him never chose this crazy life, but he on other hand jumps without a second thought.

I have to wonder if he gets a little envies of her but then again there are times when both Casey and April have felt left out but are frustrated for different reasons.

Casey frustrated to not get part of the "cool and awesome" action. Some of it is to deliver justice and protect the weak but most of it is to have a chance to go an wild ride or to be in a interactive horror movie. At far he's concern, he living out every teenage boy fantasy, but there hasn't been a moment of deconstruction with him yet of when it's not a game anymore.

With April it's to hard to explain without making it sound like broken kraang english but I would say because all the weirdness is directly connected to her, it makes her feel that she has a personal stake in the matter so being push out to her feels like being denied of what she had come to accept of who she is at her core and what's expected of her in her life. It's not so much like desire of self gratification like Casey, but a contradiction of what she should really be doing with her life and denying the place of where she feels that she fits in the most.

But I don't know if thats case with April because the show isn't interested in examine its characters or complex situations with them that can't be solve with a sword fight so yeah what the f$% do I know? Just me making stupid headcanons again that are probably not true at all.

He's CJ-lite - which is to say, he is Casey Jones, but without all that charisma and competence.

Would you say the real Casey Jones is basically Ash from the Evil Dead series? The guy who just sucks hard at real life but for some reason is explicitly good at handling the weird fanatical elements that doesn't make a lick of sense?

I agree with a lot that was written, except for the part where the OP calls Jones a "loser".

If you're online writing about Casey Jones, and analyzing his psyche...well, glass houses and stuff, right?

Jones is a deeply flawed guy - but all the characters of TMNT are damaged. It's what makes them interesting.

When I think of Jones, I imagine a cross between the personalities of Tuco (of BB), John Wick, with a hint of Dennis Leary's angst (just not as cerebral), coming out of a young, lean Jason Momoa.

I meant Ash and Jones are similar in character. In Evil Dead 3, Ash has a miserable existence working at a minimum wage job, but when ***** the fan, he suddenly the most important guy in the room. Casey is almost the same way with being more at ease at the weird abnormal stuff that comes with hanging with the turtles. The only different between Ash and Jones, is that Jones is sort of more content with normal small things and secretly wants it unlike Ash who secretly yearns to go back to the craziness of the chaos to leave the mundane life behind.

But no.

You're trying to wedge Jones into Ash. That's not him. Maybe you like think about it that way, but I would argue jones is always just being Jones. He doesn't suddenly become competent the way ash does. He's not hiding a "gift" for dealing with paranormal better than the average guy - he inserts himself into situations that maybe he shouldn't. Ash is a coward, somewhat, and given the choice, he's not going to deal with it if he doesn't have to. He's reluctant as all hell, all the time. Jones on the otherhand, might see trouble where there isn't any - and likes to play tough guy. He enjoys being brutal - and thrill seeks.

I find your comparison troubling. In short, Ash is reactionary, while Jones is provocative.

I just have a subjective perspective of certain characters that sometimes goes into head canon territory although I can agree Jones is some sort of thrill seeker but base on what you said, Nick's April has in more in common with Ash with being an reluctant hero in a sense since they both wish that they can have normal first world problems rather thinking "What disturbing monster will I encounter today?"

Now I thinking about it, with Nick's Casey, he is more of a insert audience character. Instead of having realistic reactions of certain situations, his reaction is more in line on what the show's intended demographic audience is thinking.

that got a good laugh out of me because I agree. Him spouting on about his supreme awesomeness just grates me to no end. To be fair I've never liked characters like that. His final line at the end of season 3 is just icing on the cake. I laughed at how stupidly-goofy it was and knew without a doubt that the finale was written by Brandon Auman. If only you could see my face when I checked the episode on the wiki lol
