Bad news on muckman and purple beaver

So I just got this email back from playmates saying that dire beaver release has been pushed back and they may decide to not make him. Then "as for muckman the decision has been made not to make him" smh

nellyp 12-04-2015 04:10 PM

That is an odd decision since he is on the back of the cards of current figures. I would think before they put a figure on the marketing material they should know if it stands a chance of coming out.

Powder 12-04-2015 04:11 PM

Assuming this is true, I f*cking told you so, guys. I knew they'd trash Muckman. God damn it.

Rocksteady21 12-04-2015 04:19 PM

I assure you this is what the email said. I replied and asked about krang prime and ick and they said "
Hello,

As of now we know release dates are postponed until 2016 for multiple products but it is not certain whether or not they will all be manufactured.

That stinks. What about ice cream kitty three pack, krang prime? Are all the two packs of half shell heroes(ie pigeon Pete/monkey brains) still going to be released?

That is indeed odd. Get it together, Playmates.

VaughnMichael 12-04-2015 04:31 PM

Perhaps sales haven't been good but I don't know.
Most stores can't keep the figures in long enough to keep the shelves stocked.
I really don't know what Playmates deal is.

Happened frequently with the older series. It's very much not an oddity for Playmates.

Maybe they don't think these will sell? It might be why they are afraid to release them, they think they will be shelfwarmers.

TMNTooze 12-04-2015 04:43 PM

Or maybe the customer service person is not totally informed of what is actually happening with the figures. I would think they would make the figures if they have them on the backs of the package. But who knows?

CyberCubed 12-04-2015 04:48 PM

Muckman looked the best designed of these figures. They are idiots to not release him.

TMNT figures have been sitting and rotting by me lately. It wasn't until Walmart and Target put them on sale that they started moving again. I'm glad they did that black Friday sale because I was sick of looking at the same figures over and over.

  • This shows the Warrior Bebop (metallic one) and Warrior Rahzar with Fur that never released (courtesy Vaughn Michael)
  • This shows an unreleased Purple Dragon (courtesy TMNTToys)
  • This Inuwashi Gunjin never came out
  • This Don released only in the UK but the other figures listed never saw the light of day anywhere
  • Metal Klawz and Spider Bytez never released in this line.

Powder 12-04-2015 06:26 PM

& that's just scratching the surface.

Autbot_Benz 12-04-2015 06:55 PM

goddammit Playmates you inept ****s. I was really looking forward to Muckman. If its about stuff not selling maybe Playmates should stop making so many god damn MUTATION figures. every store I got to that is what is shelfwarming. Nobody buys the pet to turtle figures or the transforming vehicles.

Zulithe 12-04-2015 07:21 PM

You'll make the crappy mutant shredders that can't stand and the crappy Atilla the frog but not muckman?

Oh, and let's not forget the zillions of Mutations figures that are not selling! And the T-Machines! Re-releasing the same, tired poorly designed Pet-to-Ninja figures too. Such wonderful ideas going on at Playmates.

I have some harsh words I would like to direct your way, Playmates.

"We decided not to make him... because he required far too many paint apps." That's how I am choosing to interpret this.

I wish they would do away with the mix and match figures. They aren't selling well at all in my area and are taking up all of the pegs. It's been frustrating to say the least going to look for new figures and there isn't even a place to put them due to all of the mix and crap figs.

Exactly! Atilla and Mutant Shredders are cheap and poorly made so of course they would be released...not sure why Dire Beaver wouldn't be released though? Same sculpt as Dark Beaver would be a cost cutter for them. I'll be upset if they don't release Dire cause I loved that episode! Sucks about Muckman too!

Powder 12-04-2015 08:38 PM

You know, it's likely the poor sales on garbage ass horse-sh*t figures like the Mutant Shredders that will give Muckman the boot. What a world.

Good things will sell, bad ones will not. It's that simple, Playmates. Muckman's an awesome sculpt of a fan-favorite character. You goof that up, you just further cement the fact you don't have a clue what turtle fans want.

Etsyturtle2 12-04-2015 08:41 PM

They release spider bites and squirrelinoid, but not muckman? That is freakin' insane dude.

Autbot_Benz 12-04-2015 08:45 PM

if this news is true I almost don't wanna buy anymore figures. I haven't purchased anything from Playmates since March.

TheMasterTurtle 12-04-2015 10:10 PM

I can't believe it... I just... meh.

The only hope I have is that email from them was generic and didnt specify one figure or another so MAYBE only the beaver is canceled and they gave a generic answer. Having dealt with customer service at my office, I wouldnt say it is impossible they aren't completely informed on specific offerings or products. Also they could just be lying. Or they could have a script with vague answers for certain questions. Lots of possibilities and although your customer service department should be informed, honest and polite they all aren't. I know ours wasn't always the best which always led to firings.

anyway I hope at least Muckman gets made.

Candy Kappa 12-05-2015 01:55 AM

One of the few figures I was still looking forward to. Of course it's being "postponed", just like Classics Shredder, totally not canceled.

lonewarrior20 12-05-2015 02:41 AM

i have the funny feeling muckman is going to be this toy series version of "scratch"

Rat_King 12-05-2015 06:38 AM

I'm sorry, but this thread got everyone worked up over an email that couldn't have been more vague. Everyone take a breather. Everything Playmates does is based on sales figures. Not to mention, they will certainly reuse a mold/sculpt if they can. These new figures just hit mass shelving within the past three weeks. There is still plenty of time before we need to get irate. Lol

Most stores? every place i've been to the last 6+ months nick tmnt have been peg warmers.

AdamWarlock87 12-05-2015 07:46 PM

Well if this news is correct I'm going to be pretty pissed. I was really looking forward to him, he was always one if not my favorite figure of the original line of toys. The Nick cartoon featuring him was also a favorite of mine.

Dunedain 12-05-2015 07:52 PM

They are a bunch of IDIOTS at Playmates. If this turns out to be the case, i am still having a glimmer of hope, i am going to be PISSED.

Like the rest of you, i was really looking forward to Muckman, and he seemed like such a good sculpt too. Even my 7 year old daughter was looking forward to Muckman. If you are reading this Playmates, understand that when you put a figures picture on the packaging, but then do not release it, YOU ARE LETTING DOWN CHILDREN.

I am really hoping they will make Kraang Prime, at least. Idk anymore, Playmates is just a total let down, lately. From crappy paint jobs, to releasing the mix n match CRAP, and horrible turtle variations, we just keep getting the middle finger from Playmates, but who are we, right. Oh wait, WE are their biggest supporters.

This s@#t makes me want to STOP supporting Playmates, and i am seriouslly considering it.

R.I.P. Muckman, you will be missed.

I've noticed that they tend to move pretty well at the Walmart(s) in my area. Though they're generally priced at $8 Canadian, which is a pretty great price compared to most other toys these days.

Haven't bought a figure in this line since the original four and Splinter, mind you...

darthwahl56 12-06-2015 12:27 AM

Man, I sure hope Muckman will be released, as he has been on a good portion of the 2015 packages. Release a totally green Muckman, I will repaint it, just don't cancel the dude.

Dire Beaver almost has no excuse to being released, since it uses the same mold as Dark, but whatever.

You know what would help get side characters out into stores? Having fewer of the turtle variants in a case. I would get mad at my stores for carrying too many of the turtle variants but most of my stores do sell them fairly well, even when a sale isn't going on. I would guess the reason for the good sales are adults who buy a kids favorite turtle or whatever turtle the kid is missing. I have personally seen the figures sell just like that and even helped in their decision at times.

Also, my Target has had the $7.89 price on the turtles all week, but with no tags indicating this, only the regular price.

Luigiperps 12-06-2015 09:43 AM

That really sucks. I don't care about the beaver, but Muckman looked really good

Something I've always wondered, even as a kid, is what the hell is the point of all the Turtle variants? I never wanted Beach Party Mike or Frat Boy Raph or Birthday Clown Don. I just wanted the four Turtles and as many enemies and allies as I could get.

Are they really that popular with kids? I mean, they must be or Playmates wouldn't bother with them, right?

The only things peg warming here in Pittsburgh are the mix-n-match figures.
They don't even put the normal assortment out because the people that work at the stores don't realize that they're not the same thing because whoever designed the box art for Playmates made them look way too much like the normal assortments box design.
Personally if I'm in a store and see this I will move them over away from the normal figures so hopefully the people that work the toy department will get the hint that these are not the same things.
I could be doing this all in vain but oh well I enjoy seeing new stuff coming even if all of it isn't good like the mutant shredders.
I'd suggest others move the mix-n-match line away from the normal line if you have the time and want to see this stuff continue to get put out.

I think this is why TMNT figures tend to move off the shelves faster than other lines because of the price point.
Most other lines range from $12.00 and up to $19.99 a figure which is kind of absurd even to a collector.
I mean I'm not going to pay that for random figures for my customs unless I really like it or it's sculpted by the 4 horsemen or someone equally as fantastic.
People really just don't have the money to be tossing at expensive figures like they did in the 90's.
Well that's not helping either lol did you just not like any of them? Or was it another reason? There have been some great toys like Tigerclaw and this new Dark Beaver is pretty cool also.

Dunedain 12-06-2015 03:55 PM

Other than Muckman, Ice cream Kitty, The purple beaver, and Kraang Prime, who else was/is in the works for Playmates to release, anyway?

I mean, if they cancel Muckman and purple beaver, thats 50 percent of what was planned. Then if the ICK set, and Kraang, is on the chopping block too, we are looking at NOTHING new being released.

This just doesnt make sense, i dont get it. So, basically, for the 2016 wave, we will be getting a nice, fresh case, of NOTHING, WTF.

Oh, mostly a lack of display/storage space (and trying to watch the budget). When I do buy figures these days I try to save up for collector format kind of stuff, too. Which I guess is funny since I just praised the low price point for this line. :tlol:

I've been tempted to get an April and a Casey for a while, but I don't think I've ever actually seen an April for sale anywhere.

OrokuYoshiFilms 12-06-2015 08:20 PM

I'm too annoyed to type anything coherent......just lame.

Ninjinister 12-06-2015 11:35 PM

I don't know about where you guys are at but, the stores around here sit on the last 3-5 stragglers after an eventual clearance for months before restocking. And it takes them months to get to the clearance to begin with. So like... I'm convinced that someone(s) go through and pick the good stuff when it shows up (which is why since like March the only new figures I've seen were Turflytle, Baxter Fly, Karai, Baxter Fly, in that order, 2-3 months apart), then the pegwarmers - mostly Turtle variants and the redecos plus the movie figs which keep getting shipped out, plus a few warmers nobody seems to want like Metalhead and Squirrelanoid - sit there forever, rinse and repeat. The store I go to the most has restocked Turtles like 3 times all year and there will be others like Target that I go to where I can return 2 months later and it's the same figures.

Sooooo if they're gonna say that figures aren't selling... I think one reason may be overstocking the stuff that doesn't sell. Hell in some places I'm seeing purpleback Squirrelanoids and Stealth Techs and such still, right there mixed with the newer backings.

Darthknuxward 12-07-2015 11:37 AM

Are you freaking kidding me? Really, Playmates,Really? :tmad:

Purple Beaver, Muckman, Sidekicks (Dr. Cluckinstien, Ice Cream Kitty, Spike), Boitoid, Savanti Romero, Kraang Prime, Zog (Walmart Website Photo), and Human Karai - also (last two beavers if first two sold well)

Should be everything that Playmates has mentioned, shown, or leaked.

Mugen_Jin18 12-11-2015 01:10 AM

I checked out the Playmate's toys Facebook page today, there are a lot of post from people wanting Muckman to be made. Hopefully more people post & Playmate's will realize the high demand & decide to release Muckman at some point.
