2016 Movie Toys

So since I started my son's TMNT action-figure collection, I've been thinking off and on about what to get him. One of my plans was to wait for the 2016 movie figures and see how their Bebop and Rocksteady hold up to the Nick figures and Fred Wolf collector figures.

It occurred to me; with the glut of main characters in this movie, we're gonna have a lot more toys on the shelf. To compare:

2014 (9 total)
Leonardo
Raphael
Donatello
Michelangelo
Splinter
April O'Neil
Shredder
Foot Soldier
Raph in Trenchcoat

2016 (14 estimated)
Leonardo
Raphael
Donatello
Michelangelo
Splinter
April O'Neil
Casey Jones
Shredder
Bebop
Rocksteady
Krang
Karai*
Baxter Stockman*
Foot Soldier*

*These are maybes... but the others are a sure thing.

Considering these toys might be a bit more memorable, given that they are at least totally cashing in on Fred Wolf nostalgia, I wonder if Playmates will give more than half a crap about how the toys look. Those 2014 Turtles were HIDEOUS.

Anyway, 2016 movie toy discussion... discuss away!

tmnt transformer 12-28-2015 09:22 PM

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if they just use the 2014 molds with a repaint. I can see a series where it's the 4 tmnt, Bebop, Rocksteady, Shredder, and April.

darthwahl56 12-29-2015 01:09 AM

The turtles looked different enough that they will definitely get new figures, April might just be a repaint. I am not so sure about Krang actually appearing in this line, I hope so.

The first movie figures are horrible, but for what playmates had to work with, they did a good job.

I reckon we will get rereleases of the first 8 (9 if you count the other Raph) and 5 new figures

Rocksteady
Bebop
Eric Sacks
Casey Jones
Ninja Foot Soldier

Some playsets though may be nice like the Turtles Lair and the Building where Eric Sacks and Karai were showing the turtles the toxins. Maybe even a foot clan vehicle would be nice?

Eric Sacks? I don't think that they release this figure.

Well, they could. But I think they will not release Vernon. Just my opinion.

oldmanwinters 12-29-2015 11:30 AM

I'd be surprised if they released a sequel movie April figure, unless they just reissued the original figure or else reused the mold with a few small updates.

nellyp 12-29-2015 02:24 PM

I would guess that they will release the turtles again. Hopefully they will be new sculpts but could just be re-releases. Also can see them doing another set of the turtles with some sort of action feature aside from the basic assortments, in the deluxe figure price range. Also Bebop and Rocksteady which would be cool as their look is very similar to the IDW Comic versions.

This is a bit of a stretch but would be cool if they also did B&R in the 11" scale to go with the 11" turtles from the last movie (which they may or may not rerelease turtles of).

Other basic figures, I would assume a new shredder and foot soldiers but most other human characters probably not except I could see them doing Casey Jones. Baxter Stockman is unlikely if it is just the human form we saw in the trailer, but if he gets mutated then who knows. If the Krang play a big role in the movie possibly some krang/dimension x stuff.

Wouldn't it be strange if they did release a movie version of Karai and it became a peg warmer. Playmates could then use that as an excuse to cancel the Nick version that they begrudgingly agreed to make at their comic con panel.

For vehicles I would assume a new turtle van and possibly 1 villains vehicle.

And now I am out of predictions.

They could, but I agree they probably wont. They don't like producing human characters outside of main ones like April and Casey

Well tbf, he was one of the main and has been confirmed to appear in the 2nd and 3rd film. Although you are right about Playmates not doing humans but remember the 2003 line where we had SO many new characters that were generic humans!

He has in fact not officially been confirmed.

Wow, is it necessary to write the turtles' names over & over like that? :tlol: Could save yourself a lot of time writing "TMNT" or "All 4 turtles".

Everytime I see a thread titled this one, I get excited that there's going to be some official information. And almost 75% of the time, I see a fan's wishlist. Ahwell...

It certainly does but I like to make it look good!

Hear hear! Or... here here! Whichever it is. I don't see the point in them, myself. False hope ahoy.

I'd love to see play sets, in particular a technodrome if it's in the movie

I really love it when you show new stuff. This is awesome. Show and Tell is great.:tsmile::tsmile:

Those figures don't look like repaints. With all those play features and size for the garbage truck I expect that it will retail at around $60.

Is there any pictures some of the other movie stuff on the packaging?

DVD 01-01-2016 04:31 AM

This is shipping very soon .
Initial retail is $60, so expect to be sold at closer to $40.

Next week, I'll open it up and take some shots side by side with the last movie truck. I'd do it sooner, but I'm on holiday just now with no access to my stuff!!

Powder 01-01-2016 04:33 AM

...Are Mikey & Raph's headsculpts the same as before? :ohwell: I kinda want a set of Bayturtles for completion's sake but not if they aren't wholly new releases (I passed on the first ones for various reasons but the headsculpts were the main not-selling point for me).

They look interesting otherwise. If they're actually painted that much, could be cool.

DVD 01-01-2016 04:43 AM

When I get back I'll stick the figures I have from the first movie beside the pics on the box, and recreate the 'action' shots on the package.

I would say late April to early May, as most movie toylines have done in the past, some now, like Star Wars or Marvel come out several months ahead with product. So who knows if Playmates will follow in this. If DVD already has the major vehicle, then there may be a release several months ahead.

Thanks for sharing DVD. It's a good way to start this 2016! Very cool.

nellyp 01-02-2016 06:00 PM

Spin master is the distributor of tmnt toys for playmates here in Canada. They are usually behind on releases here so it's good to see they have product ready for the movie. Still bugs me that spin master no longer releases the figures with the bio cards on the back, just generic cards for all figures.
