A Krang origin movie?

Does anyone think it would be good if they made a movie or at least a few episodes explaining Krang's origins. Such as what he looked like with his body, how he met Beserko and Shreeka, how he got banished, how he met Shredder, ect. I would think it would clear up a lot of questions and I would think it would be interesting to see how he became a warlord. Didn't he rule almost every planet in Dimension X? Since he was considered to be the supreme warlord of Dimension X and many people knew his name.

I think there should be something like that.

Powder 02-28-2016 02:12 PM

Nah, sometimes it's fun to let there be some mystery.

You should check out IDW's comics if you want something like that, their Krang has a very in-depth origin.

neatoman 02-28-2016 02:36 PM

Honestly, I don't care about the original Krang let alone his backstory. He doesn't have the characteristics of a good villain, not even a comic relief villain and on top of that he's just annoying, which is probably why Tom/Bobby/Kevin (I don't who had the idea) decided to reimagine the character a great deal for modern audiences.

That I'm pretty sure the original backstory for Krang was contradictory in some ways, so who really cares if the writers didn't?

CylonsKlingonsDaleksOhMy 02-28-2016 02:41 PM

Nope. That's a prequel the general public would never give a damn about.

No, I prefer Krang's past to be left to people's own interpretations. Even if a movie was made, it wouldn't live up to expectations I think.

IDW Krang is just a boring generic alien warlord. Easily the worst main villain in the new series. He has no real personality other than, "I'm evil and I want to save my race" and goes through every cliche of every comic book supervillain known to man. I don't care if we never see him again.

IDW did a great job with some other older villain characters, but Krang was not one of them.

The OT Krang had a great character and a well done backstory told over the course of multiple characters.

thundermaster612 02-28-2016 03:07 PM

maybe they could touch up on it in the new crossover special with the 2k12 series

He really isn't. His personality is somewhat incosistent, he's woefully incompetent, he has no real character motivation and like most other characters he just sort of became a snarker with time. As for his backstory, it's very rarely touched upon and when it is it's usually pretty vague.

Bobby said there were no plans at this time, but they certainly have the ability to. I think a mini-series within the TMNT(1987) universe would be the best way to explain his involvement with both Beserko as he constructed the Technodrome and Shrieka as his first partner. Not to mention the event of his banishment to Earth and desire to conquer the place he was banished to as well. Then of course how he met Shredder and why he does not turn on him like he did at least two others that we know of in their love/hate partnership. Maybe if we lobby long and hard enough IDW would do this!

And that's why he fits the nature of the show.

I would say a film with two sidestories, one how Hamato Yoshi and Oroku Saki rival in Japan and Oroku Saki tricks Hamato Yoshi (knife scene) and Hamato Yoshi escapes to the USA.

Meanwhile in Dimension X, Krang is a warlord and conquers planets, and starts interplanetary wars. Somehow Krang ends up on Earth with the Technodrome in an underground cave below New York City. When Shredder follows Hamato Yoshi to New York City and walks in the underground tunnels one day he encounters Krang and they team up.

When Shrederr spills out the mutagen, the turtles and Hamato Yoshi (Splinter) are mutated. Splinter trains the turtles and soon they take down local street thugs.

I never said he didn't, I just don't think very highly of the show to begin with. So from my point of view, he's a poorly written character in a poorly written show.

AlZarkovski 02-28-2016 05:53 PM

Heh... This is preview of my comic book about the Krang's origin (inc. Dracus & Shreeka).

Sorry, at the moment comics in Russian, but soon we will translate it into English.

Shark_Blade 02-28-2016 06:18 PM

Didn't we already have a Kraang origin story in IDW villain mini-series?

Kraang wanted to impress his father or something like that.

He's not poorly written at all though. You don't seem to get what a different genre is.

Utrommaniac 02-28-2016 08:06 PM

First thought: YES!!!

Thought after reading the comments: Excellent points, everyone! Maybe!

Krang as a whole needs a lot of sprucing up, be it OT or IDW. While IDW takes him seriously...it goes too seriously, and he has somehow ended up flatter than the OT. From what I feel, what OT Krang lacks in consistent backstory, is forgotten by a much broader emotional range. The reverse goes for the IDW. He's angry all the time.

I like the take that Krang has noble intentions, but logically, it would backfire in his face like one of his inventions rigged up by Donatello. Universal conquest is what got his species into the mess their in, and the meager amount that he saved probably won't want it for themselves.

An origin movie would work for a more balanced Krang. A Krang who is the leader of his species and a capable scientist (where did THAT go in IDW?) with sharp wit and charisma, though short tempered. And adamantly refuses that he watches John and Marsha.

But for one or the other? We've already got one backstory in place, and the OT would have to pick a direction. Not only that, but from what can be gathered on on the OT backstory...I don't think that would be lucky enough to get a PG rating. He's been up to some nasty business in his conquest.

I don't see it as a theatrical release, but something that would be more of a tap on the shoulder, released on streaming.

Yabuturtle 02-28-2016 10:26 PM

I don't know why people wouldn't like the OT Krang. He's a very funny and dangerous villain and the way he interacts with the characters is great. Now I didn't think that his origin would be a theatrical release per se. It could be a made for tv movie or just several episodes explaining his origins. IDW Krang is good but OT Krang just seems unique and memorable, breaks the 4th wall, can be funny and ruthless at the same time, ect. He can be threatening but also totally pathetic, depending on his situation.

CyberCubed 02-28-2016 10:52 PM

IDW Krang is basically just Ch'rell. He's Krang in name only.

Krang's micro was the only time Krang had a bit of character in IDW, showing him as a selfish prince before he had to fend for himself.

Utrommaniac 02-28-2016 11:18 PM

The biggest difference is Krang having at least some capacity for compassion, even if it's only towards his own kind. Ch`rell despised other Utroms for some unexplained reason (at least, we aren't given the reason why they've been an antagonistic force "his entire life". Implying that he's had these feelings since he was very young.)

The backstory I'd like to see is Ch`rell's. We're dropped hints for OT Krang, and shown a lot more on IDW. With Ch`rell, we aren't given any reason why he feels that he has been "hunted his entire life" by the other Utroms, or why he feels the need for conquest.

shuriken 02-29-2016 02:33 AM

IDW Krang isn't evil for the sake of being evil. He wants to right the wrongs that his father did in the most worst way ever. He wants to create a new world for his people, and is desperate to do so. That is totally different from OT Krang and 2k3 Ch'rell.

No he's still poorly written, I already said that his personality isn't consistent and that he just a variation on the same type of snarker as every other character in the show.

ABrown 02-29-2016 10:26 AM

I'm picturing this as more of a comic than a movie.

This would probably work more than an origins story on just Krang, if anything I'd like to think an origin story on Casey Jones would work far better in terms of a big budget film.

Do you guys really have to mix up the Kraang and Krang all the time? The discussion goes for the OT Krang not the Nick Aliens.

And the comics and the cartoon are two different worlds. The old cartoon gave him a totally unstable backstory with no continuity at all. The IDW Comics gave him a reasonable background with actions which explain why he acts like he does.

To come on topic of this thread, in the cartoon yes, as Life Action Movie, no.

Ceres 02-29-2016 11:59 AM

this comic seems rather interesting. I personally was never a fan of OT Krangs roots as reptilian monster but it's definitely worth a shot i guess. I would love to read it when you finished translating.

Thank you! I hope we finish translating this year.

Yabuturtle 02-29-2016 09:39 PM

I find it interesting that OT Krang is the only one in the series that looks like that. There was no race of alien brains, he had a body and was horribly deformed. He was both ruthless and funny. He was of course one of the most successful tmnt villains and ruled an entire dimension.

When I said movie, I was really thinking more like the lines of Turtles Forever, perhaps just a made for tv movie that would explain SOME things about Krang.

Powder 02-29-2016 10:04 PM

It would never happen.
