The Turtles are coming to Fox Kids, with a difference: These aren't your little brother's turtles! With the all new Friday afternoon series, Fox Kids Network takes the Turtles to an entirely new level. The Turtles now have a "sister" to the four now eighteen year old "brothers" and will be in more dramatic scenarios that won't make you feel young watching them. Oh how I forget how hideous kids show/movies websites were back in the day.

What were the graphic designers thinking back then??? To which, as a budding graphic designer, I say:

Back when you had to highlight website text in order to read it against the tiled background.

That's what most websites looked like back in 1997. It also took 1 hour to download and watch a 5 minute video.

Jesus Christ, that resolution is awful! I know these videos were uploaded nearly twenty years ago but the window size VLC automatically picks is smaller than the screen of an original Gameboy.

i miss this show. Really wish that 2nd season happened.

I really would like to see another attempt at this concept; a live-action series where the turtles are now adults and have to fight against new foes. It's a shame this show wasn't executed well because on paper, it seems like a great idea. Take away Venus, use a darker tone, fix up the turtle costumes, and we might just have a solid show.

The funny thing is the website actually describes how I felt about the show when I was a kid. I thought it was a serious show with a good mix of action, comedy and drama, probably because it was live action. A few people at school preferred it over the OT because it wasn't a cartoon. I didn't realise how bad the show really was until I rewatched the first few episodes as an adult a few years ago.

I feel the same way and yet for some odd reason, I find the PD films even more offensive than this. It's a little tough to explain why.

Probably because these Turtles don't have nostrils.

In all seriousness the designs for the Turtles in Next Mutation are actually pretty decent. Its only the lack of budget for a live-action kids show which is why they don't look as good as they could.

I could not possibly disagree more.

TNM was really hip and cool, I was still a kid unlike a lot of dromers here and my heroes who had been absent for a while were back! But now they were older! they dressed cooler! and totally represented the 90s. Not only that but it was live action like the movies I loved which were totally more serious. The best of it all was that there was a new member! a female turtle. The action figures showed this new awesome villain called the Dragonlord and Shredder is in all black looking all badass.

I don't remember if I ever got to watch the show as a kid and if I did it was only an episode or two though but I do remember listening to the 15 second preview song of the Armageddon soundtrack at Walmart thinking of the turtles fighting against the Dragonlord. It's easy to dimiss as cynical adults these things but it's more fun to remember our feelings as kids and not looking at things in hindsight or thinking we knew better back then.

I tried to watch this series on Netflix and didn't manage to get through the first ten minutes of the first episode.

I thought Splinter's design was the worst. Those suits made TMNT 3 look like a masterpiece.

Same with me I barley made it through the first episode the costumes were bad the acting was bad this show made turtles 3 look like turtles 1. hell PD turtles is more watchable.

Definitely Out of Their Shells, those costumes were terrible!

Of course you can't compare the costumes of TMNT 3 to the show, they had entirely different budgets, one is a movie while the other is a tv show. And of course they are much better than the Coming out of the Shells costumes, it's not even a fair fight. They're pretty decent costumes for a budget tv show and they offered the best movement out of any other live action turtles costume, not even in TMNT 3 did they move this much.


Again most of you are watching this show in hindsight and not in context. You may bash it based on the first 10 minutes of the first episode but if you stick with it you'll see that's possibly the worst the show ever is. I'm not saying it ever becomes great but it has some redeemable things and some good episodes. I always post the same thing here defending TNM and many most think I'm a huge fan, but I'm not. I just think it's an alright show that doesn't deserve the hate it gets, especially when most just repeat like sheep flaws that they read on other websites that are completely untrue like "It was the Venus show" and they continue to spread misconceptions. Good show? No. Terrible? nah.

Given that it was a live show, there was at least a practical reason for the Out Of Their Shells suits to look the way they did.

Their shortcomings can't be glossed over with the skillful use of shadows, lighting, and camera tricks.

Would you say TNM coustumes are less offensive than the CGI look of the PD films?

Well that depends on how you are comparing them if you go style/art wise then TNM is much better but if you go by quality obviously the PD wins. So yeah I prefer TNM but they're uglier than PD's.

Honestly, yeah I would. Ignoring the obvious budget differences the TNM designs are better. I will say though PD TMNT designs did improve for the second film (especially Leo I thought).

The Next Mutation designs themselves aren't bad at all, if you look at fanart of the Turtles with those designs they look great.

It was just the small budget for a kids TV show that didn't allow them to make the costumes as good as they could have.

Those video clips are interesting since the scenes are dubbed over by completely different actors, including Jess Harnell, what sounds like Billy West I believe, and even Cam Clarke as Raph!

Well it is in the intro for the entirety of the series.

Soooo weird, can you imagine if they had actually been the cast? Totally different vibe. I really like TNM's voice talent, so I'm glad we got who we got. They seemed like perfect fits (barring perhaps Splinter, but he was bad all around). Anyway, I have to assume they hadn't dubbed the show yet & had some on-hand talent do these placeholder vocals for the advertisements.

Isn't that just the ordinary Ninja Turtles website changed a little biy.

I thought the same things about the show when I was 11, except the 1987 cartoon was still being aired in Ireland back then. I only watched an episode or two, but I thought the finale was good, though I didn't knew it was the last episode at the time.

I don't know if it's just an issue with Wayback Machine right now, but the page is even loading as slow as a website in 1998. It's a nice touch. :tlol:

I'd guess the former, it worked just fine for me yesterday.

If the Next Mutation at least had the same tone as TMNT II, I probably would have loved the show. Unfortunately it didn't and was far more dumbed down and child like.

TMNT II had the perfect balance between being more similar to the cartoons but not overly childish.

They're 17 in NT:TNM, not 18.

Makes me wonder, in retrospect. Had NT:TNM hit TV, like, right after TMNT II came out, and ridden that wave... would it have been more embraced?

I mean, by 1997, 1998... the 10ish year olds who saw, say, the first couple movies were already 17, 18 by this point. A puzzling decision to create something at that point even more "babyish" than the corniest of the films from almost a decade before at that point. I guess the intention was to try and spark a new generation of fans with it... but you don't lead with something like NT:TNM.

WTF? The Nick cartoon literally has the most adult humor and ton of action scenes of many of the series, as anyone who has watched it can tell you. You said you never watched anything past the first episode, so who are you fooling?

What bugs me is all those early advertisements for Next Mutation kept calling it a, "more adult version of TMNT" or kept saying, "The Turtles are now 17 year olds, they don't have time for pizza anymore, they're grown up!"

Its like false advertising. I mean it was obviously going to be a kids show from the start, but it could have at least had the same tone as the 3 live-action movies and had some sense of darkness or action to it.

At least when Image TMNT said the boys were growing up, they f***ing grew the f*** up. :tlol:

It was gritty and bloody and booby and Raph burned his face off and Donnie was a cyborg and Pimiko ran around in a BDSM suit. :trazz:

i watched the first episode and knew it was crap. i also watched transdimentional turtles. Also crap. it's kiddie crap through and through. Who you foolin.
