The best Bebop & Rocksteady?

Seeing Bebop & Rocksteady in 2012, they seem better than their previous incarnations.

Which is your most favorite?

dragonside 09-05-2016 01:15 PM

after the Bebop & Rocksteady Destroy the world, i gotta say, I like those two a lot. I think it was the best representation of their friendship.

ToTheNines 09-05-2016 01:27 PM

IDW is the only viable option.

snake 09-05-2016 01:31 PM

IDW, nothing else comes close

neatoman 09-05-2016 02:10 PM

Clearly IDW. Tom Waltz, Dustin Weaver and Ben Bates are the only people who nailed the "moronic yet powerful" angle which Wise, Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, most of the FW writers and (sadly) Steve Murphy kept screwing up.

FredWolfLeonardo 09-05-2016 02:13 PM

No doubt the FW versions to me. Id reckon theyre the most entertaining and iconic versions that not only were tue first versions of the characters, but made them a major part of the Ninja Turtles franchise.

Thats not to say I don't like the other versions, I think they all were very well done and I there's not a single incarnation which I think is not good.

^This. They prove Bebop and Rocksteady's full potential. This is what I have been suggesting to the Mirage Group for years. I am glad Tom and company did it.Only I enjoy incompetent goofball Bebop and Rocksteady on occasion to lighten the mood.

CylonsKlingonsDaleksOhMy 09-05-2016 02:31 PM

IDW. Monsters with hearts of gold. Which they stole, obviously, and beat the former owners into bloody pulp.

CyberCubed 09-05-2016 02:34 PM

80's versions: Typical slapstick comedy relief villains. But they have a lot of fun moments in the series that makes up for their incompetence.

Archie versions: Some sort of pseudo-intellectual animal rights versions because of Murphy's political agenda's.

IDW versions: Competent street punks but also still humorous

Nick versions: The most black version of Bebop ever saying things like, "Dawg," "Homie," "Oh Snap," along with Russian comie Rocksteady saying things like, "Da!" and "It's good, yes?"

Bay movie versions: They were pretty decent as well, probably the only good part of the new movie.

Shellington 09-05-2016 03:04 PM

All of them, Bebop and Rocksteady rule!

Powder 09-05-2016 03:26 PM

Soft spot for the originals, naturally, but IDW's are my favorite.

MsMarvelDuckie 09-05-2016 08:00 PM

@ Powder- on this, we agree! As much as I love the originals, there is just so much awesome about the IDW version.

TigerClaw 09-05-2016 08:34 PM

The Fred Wolf and Out of the Shadows versions are pretty similar in there characterizations.

The Archie version they were animals before being mutants, and cared more about nature and running around in the nude.

I think the Nickeloeon version got them wrong, they are normally super loyal to the Shredder, but in this version, they were just a Thief and an Arms Dealer who got mixed up with the Shredder, and turned into mutants against there will and forced to work for him.

The IDW version, its like a combination of Fred Wolf and Out Of The Shadows, If they were 10x more violent and destructive, this version did some serious damage to the Turtles, when Donnie got mortally wounded.

Commenter 42 09-05-2016 08:44 PM

Still my favorite version, even if it is fan art.

The IDW ones followed closely by the the 80's original during those first 5 episodes "say yer prayers toitles" and the Nick version. They're very different but I do like Steranko and Anton's style. They're kinda dumb, but in a different way from being outright stupid and incompetent.

They're not "wrong", you just don't care much for them (I assume). They're practically blank slate characters, plenty of room for interpretation.

I think Bebop and Rocksteady are supposed to be super loyal and do whatever the Shredder tells them, and not 2nd guess him.

and that's the problem right there, the fact they are blank slate characters, which is why I give IDW and OOTS a high regard for there interpretations.

Did other versions of Bebop and Rocksteady betray Shredder? Because the OT Bebop and Rocksteady betrayed Shredder several times. One when Shredder was turned into a fly, the other time, where Bebop and Rocksteady used the anxitron ray and made them afraid and one where Bebop was crowned King of Atlantis and enslaved Shredder, until Shredder threatened to burn everything in his room.

Coola Yagami 09-05-2016 11:03 PM

True but the 80's Shredder kinda tricked them though he did promise them the strength to defeat the Turtles.

In the Nick show they were mutated as punishment for crossing him. Then threatened to work for him.... or else. They have reason to not want to work for the guy. In the 80's version they were already working for him before mutation.

Guess no love for the Out of the Shadows Bebop & Rocksteady.

It's to be expected, they're essentially the "My man!" catchphrase and very little else. As uncompelling as I find them outside of what IDW has published, I must admit I can see why someone would vote the other versions, FW has the nostalgia for them, Nick gives them a unique take (if kind of strange) and Archie... Uh... Had shipping bait?

Archie made them Alright Guys who got in touch with their animal side. It's something.

pferreira 09-08-2016 10:14 AM

FW Bebop and Rocksteady all the way since I feel those first versions had the most energy put into them. The characters were great although most of the other versions are pretty good.

myconius 09-08-2016 11:16 AM

i enjoyed each version ever made to different degrees.
i'll always have a soft spot for the original cartoon voices. 'Sky Turtles' is a particular favorite episode for B&R.

the voice actors they have now for the Nick version are pretty awesome as well.
J. B. Smoove is absolutely hysterical in just about everything he's in!

the IDW B&R micro-series won them over as my favorite version though.
what i love most about that comic is it almost has an animated look to it.

WebLurker 09-08-2016 02:30 PM

Can't speak for any of the comic versions, since I've never read 'em.

The '80s versions were not very well done, IMHO. They're carbon copies of each other and are not very funny in and of themselves. I think the iconic idea of them is the main reason they remain popular.

I vote that the Nick show did them right. They're hilarious, have distinct personalities beyond the simple dumb brute, and play off the other characters well.

The "Out of the Shadows" movie did them well, too. It did skewer closer to the '80s version, but in a way that did the concept justice.

CyberCubed 09-08-2016 05:26 PM

You know its kind of funny there are so many versions of Bebop/Rocksteady now. Just a few years ago there were technically only two versions, the Fred Wolf originals and the Archie versions who were loosely based on the originals anyway.

Now there's the IDW versions, the Nick versions, and the movie versions. Its kind of funny how Bebop/Rocksteady got such a huge resurgence.

Shark_Blade 09-08-2016 06:45 PM

IDW followed closely by Bay version.

LeotheLateBloomer 09-09-2016 10:09 AM

The IDW versions are my favorite. They're still not very bright but are an actual threat.

The 80s versions will always have a special place in my heart for how bumbling yet funny they are. Though I prefer them in the first season though since they were a bit more threatening.

Archie.....well not much different. Never read the issue where they take a load off. Looks pretty disturbing.

Nick's Rocksteady I enjoy for being huge muscle but I do not like Bebop at all. He's not very interesting and comes off as an annoying Tron mutant.

OotS, as much as I don't like praising this movie one bit, I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy them but that fart joke came out of nowhere.:trolleye:
