New Episode Discussion: "Lone Raph and Cub"

Yay! I can finally do this again!!!

*sighs* Splinter's Gone! Our boys are suffering from the loss of their father, and dont know what to do or where to start... :(

Raph, ever impatient and eager to find their beloved Sensei, decides to go off on his own. Heh, I would not want to be there when Leo finds out... :o

Well, Raph goes out on his own, and ends up meeting some kid....We ALL know how Raph's manners are, so you can guess how THIS team up went... :P ohh, the Mob's involved too! Maybe we'll get something like, "on the waterfront"...

Somehow, whatever powers that be, the kid and Raph somehow start to team up and go to help the kids mom. Hmm...she must be trying out the concrete shoes...

Machias Banshee 10-17-2003 10:02 PM

Less than 12 hours folks!

Can you feel the pressure?

Machias Banshee 10-18-2003 09:22 AM

sory guys....*bangs head on desk* I slept in by accident...

Mr. Snackpants 10-18-2003 09:23 AM

Not bad, but I dont want a break from the story. I thought raph was funny, like how he was irittated and impatient with the kid :D (tyler). The next episode looks pretty cool and they go back to shredders skyscraper thing.

lethrhd 10-18-2003 09:26 AM

Liked how they introduced another gang. Liek someone else said bet theyll play a part in City at War whenever they get to that story arc.

PanMan 10-18-2003 09:26 AM

yeah, i was really glad to see that they had the preview right after the ep. and it was a long preview :P

DarkNinja 10-18-2003 09:30 AM

I thought it was really cool how Raph had a whole episode pretty much to himself.
*"Green Vengeace... uhhh, never mind"
*i was surprised the kid wasn't scared of Raph (too much of a hothead i guess)
*they did pretty good working as a team when Raph couldn't see
*the first time I saw the boss reminded me of that dude on Spiderman
*i wonder how they relate to the story (i know the boss mentioned Shredder, but i don't think we've heard everything)

lethrhd 10-18-2003 09:34 AM

Yea the preview showed a lot of Guardian stuff Im glad there finally going to play a bigger part in the new series.

HorseTechie 10-18-2003 10:05 AM

Wow... did everyone sleep in on this one? :-?

Anyhoo, I fixed up a poll for the thread too (after some trial an error). Let er rip!

I thoght this episode was dependly one for the Raph fangrrls to go "awwwww" over. :P It was really fun in some parts. Good fight scenes, graet humor (as always), and the way Raph and the "kid" interacted was neat.

Anyone else think "Aww c'mon, make like Daredevil, Raph!" Yeah, I'm evil, I think he should be able to fight blind by now, at least. Especially when his opponent is this big hunky dude in a pink shirt! (a Kingpin wanna be, purhaps?)

The whole scenario was interesting though. And I liked the bit of continuity where the Gang Boss said that with the Shredder gone, the gangs are getting restless. Mmm...

Nturtle 10-18-2003 10:08 AM

I just got to see it, I had to take a little test called the PSATs :dead:

Anyways, this was a preety good episode, esspecially for a filler. There has been a substantial increase the quality of the animation, which is awesome!!!!!! So this episode must have been made fairly after Return to New York was finished.

It was preety corny though, real corny actually :P Aw well I expected it to be.

Did anyone notice the movie the kid was watching? It had a samurai with a babystroller, heh.

cqb101 10-18-2003 10:12 AM

Damn, I missed it. I missed last weeks too! Stupid Bermuda....stupid PSAT's....stupid non working VCR......

tOkKa 10-18-2003 10:16 AM

-->> it was a good strait- forward episode.. and showed how much raph can contradict himself.. even he realised it.. 'was tight.... :)

Meira-Bates 10-18-2003 10:18 AM

I was surprised that for once, Leo told the others that Raph was allowed to go. I feel kinda sorry for Mikey... He seemed almost like he might feel he was to blame for Splinter's dissapearance, as he brought up the fact of Splinter having taken a hit for him. Hehe, and Donny's already only 'a few hours' a way from a new battle shell. Other than that, yeah, I believe that the gangsters are gonna be back in the gang wars... Everyone from season one appears to be making a reappearance...except no news on Abigale yet(and frankly I'm pleased with that).

Cascadia 10-18-2003 10:44 AM

I missed the first five minutes because I could not get myself out of bed. It was a good filler. The animation was good but it was not as funny as some of the other episodes.

gobo 10-18-2003 10:48 AM

The writers weren't too original with this one. What do you get when you cros "Meet Casey Jones" with "Fallen Angel"? Dunno bout you, but I just watched the answer.

ThirdMarioBro 10-18-2003 10:49 AM

I thought Don said that he was almost done fixing the old Battle Shell?
Ah well, whatever.
Hmmm...lots of people slept in I guess...?
I like episodes like this. I feel the gang war coming.....Bring it on!
Lots of emotion in this one...good. It was cool how the kid...ok tyler :D was Raphs eyes during the fight. Very cool. Did anyone notice the reporter mom was wearing yellow....? Odd. Nothing to that I guess, still I just found it odd. A nice emotional episode to follow the madness and destruction (so sweet it is) from last week. Now....the wait for City at War begins........a gang war on Saturday morning, who'd of thought we'd see the day,

RskimB 10-18-2003 10:50 AM

It was a solid episode.

Skeletoncrew 10-18-2003 11:40 AM

Alright, before I say anything I'd like to make it known that I am currently sick with a head cold. When I'm sick, I don't tend to enjoy the episodes much...either that or they only air episodes I don't really care for when I'm sick.

I have to rank this as just about my least favorite episode so far. I'm tired of them making a big deal out of the Turtles not being able to see opponents. With all of their training, they should be able to do quite well using their other senses. I'm also tired of "Raph learns a lesson about being a hothead" episodes. I do agree with him about hating kids though.

And uh...I've forgotten whatever else I was going to say. Stupid head cold... :dead:

Jephael 10-18-2003 11:42 AM

I loved this episode, especially the part where Raph needed help finding his way after being blinded. Sorta reminded me of the time Mikey was blinded in the Archie series. Atleast it was only for about an hour or so in Raph's case.

Taloniss 10-18-2003 11:50 AM

Good episode, I liked how we got to see some of Raph's sensitive side, and how he wanted to help the kid and his mom. Some good humour as well, given that there was hardly any Mikey. Next Saturday can't get here soon enough.

J Legault 10-18-2003 12:21 PM

I'm a Raphel Fan and I like this filler episode. Finally there's a Raph stand alone episode. And the Gangsters are #4 of Extra Villians with no connection with the Shredder. Atleast Raph found someone instead of Casey that's Hot Headed.

Since this episode is base of Lone Wolf and Cub does anyone have info on that title?

April wore a different outfit in this episode, I thought the tang-top,button shirt and jeans suit her pretty well. She's appeared in more episodes since Notes from Underground part 3.

My favorite parts are when that one Skinny Gangster with the goatee telling the other guys to get Raph.

Green Vengeace....never mind.

Gangster: A little early for Halloween, Freak?
That quote was simalar to "Things Change" Purple Dragon Leader: "Look at the Freaks!" "This ain't Halloween"

I like the part when Raph tries to reason with Tyler but he keeps punching.

The part when Raph tells him to go to the police station, I knew that Raph wasn't going to leave him since he knew Tyler will just walk right back out.

The Gang Leader reminded me of Ganondorf from Legend of Zelda for some reason.

The part with Raph against the Gang leader was simalar to a Hun Fight. But Hun is a bit larger then this guy.

I give this episode 5 out of 5 stars for A must see epsiode.

Atleast I saw a preview for next weeks episode.

Anarchistguy 10-18-2003 12:26 PM

I know I'm annoying as hell with this question, but being a HUGE animation fan , how was the animation quality?

Ashangelo 10-18-2003 01:05 PM

I really enjoyed this episode. And yes, I did think it was cute :P I loved the interaction between Raph and Tyler, This episode proves that Raph does have a sensistive side although he chooses not to show it

I just finished watching Daredevil before I went to sleep last night, so I definitely was thinking the same thing about the Kingpen.

Being a Ninja, why didn't Raph tell the kid to kill the lights to even the playing field? Over-all, this was probably the WORST episode yet...though, a bad episode of TMNT still kicks everything else's ass.

Shellfox 10-18-2003 01:33 PM

I know it wasn't intentional but the Halloween line cracked me up, since I really is time
Big Raph fan, but this ep just didn't do it for me. The bits with out eh kid were great but the story itself seemed a little cliche.
Kinda ticked that Raph needed the kid to see in the finaly fight. We saw Leo tack on those foot techs alone blind folded, and the guys have all probly been in training to deal with invisable opponents, so the using kid seemed like they were putting raph down. Yes when they were running it made sence, but when Raph went up aginst the boss, he shouldn't have been helpless.
Nice ot see them laying the seeds of the story acr to come with the gangsters.
Not a bad ep, but it could have been improved greatly with a little work

J Legault 10-18-2003 02:32 PM

The part with Raph in the begginning of the episode reminded me of Raph in the 1st Movie where he blames himself for Splinter's Disappearance. And Leo telling Raph if he wants to search then do so thing was sorta like in the Movie.

But otherwise Raph is my favorite and this episode is for all us Raph fans.

PanMan 10-18-2003 02:48 PM

sorry guys, i was stoked about the new MOTU ep and couldn't talk much about this one.

the animation was top notch! i would have rather had raph have a flashback to Way of Invisibility and how splinter was teaching them how to fight in the dark. that could have been an emotional flashback and would have fit in very nicely.

i also liked when the kid ran away from raph the first time "you can't run away from a ninja, kid" and then there was that time when the kid said "come get me" and ran out from behind raph (just before that guy threw the grenade). raph had to flip his sai around and he easily brought the kid back :P

all in all a good filler ep. it was just the kind of ep i needed . . . the turtles (or turtle) fighting some "wimps". reminded me alot of the first ep, although they took care of the purple dragons way too easily then.

Mondo J. Gecko 10-18-2003 02:49 PM

Not a bad filler ep..... waiting on the next two episodes though.... they should be good :)

PanMan 10-18-2003 02:51 PM

oh and BTW, i think the poll is kinda useless since i think it was very clear that they will be the 'mob' in City at War

maybe something like "did you think that was splinter at the beginning of the ep?"

nah, i got nothin'

yeah no kidding. i'm very glad that they went back to shredder's tower. i wonder what else they'll find there, and maybe hun or even shredder will be spying on them

Thats an understatement!! It was freckin' amazing!!! Not just raph jumping around and fighting but little parts like the close up of him picking up his sai is smooth!! Maybe Dong Woo got some more people or new technology recently, whatever it is, I can't wait to see this kind of animaion is season 2!!!

Machias Banshee 10-18-2003 03:45 PM

*sighs* thats it, I am druging myself to sleep Early next week, so i wake up on time...

Kali 10-18-2003 03:58 PM

Just one word... Bwahahahahahaha!

That was great, total Raph action. I think it was good of Leo to let him out like that, since he probably would have caused more trouble staying in the lair.

And that Tyler kid, what spunk! Hit Raph not once, but three times! Must say, that was my favorite part, I was literally rolling with laughter. I feel just like Raph, I really don't like children, but still, you can't let them go off and get hurt doing some stupid stunt like trying to fight the mob.

Blinded Raph. Also some great stuff, both humorous and touching. In fact, that's how the whole thing was, action packed, funny as hell, with the tough guy showing a bit of his softer side. Though I am really disappointed with him not doing the "other senses" thing, I mean, he is a ninja after all, and he wasn't even fighting other ninjas! I guess Raph's just a little too hot headed and impatient for that stuff.

*hugs her Raphie plushie*

jeff the cheff 10-18-2003 04:00 PM

I also had PSAT's so I missed it... but i taped it so its all good. I thought it was ok but like someone else said i wish raph had the kid get rid of the lights and fight in the dark. The whole 1 o-clock thing was kidna stupid. Id prolly be able to geuss better where the guy is then having a kid tell me...I mean he was RIGHT there!

Aztec General 10-18-2003 04:01 PM

Overall this was a pretty good stand alone episode. I have a feeling that this episode was the first hint of the upcoming City At War storyline. This must be the mob that the Purple Dragons and the Foot take on.

(Edit: I just noticed the poll that states the same as above. I guess I'm not the only one who noticed this.)

I do have one complaint. How is it that mobsters don't have guns? I know that this is supposed to be a kids show but c'mon? It's just stupid that a bunch of organized criminals wearing suits would be carrying chains and baseball bats. They aren't supposed to be a street gang like the Purple Dragons they're supposed to be the mob.

LOL! I was complaining about the same thing during the ep. The guys started to pull weapons out of their jackets, but I was shocked that they wielded chains and pipes instead of guns. I mean, what kind of mobsters are they?

There were a few guys that got knocked down before we saw their weapons, and I think they had guns. Or at least, that's my explanation.

It's a graphic novel series in Japan, by Kazuo Koike. Which has become quite popular over there, and here among classic manga fans. It's been even made into movies and a TV series over there. The basic story is that a disgraced Samurai becomes an assassin for hire, while he attempts to clear his family's name. The only companion on this journey, is his 3-year old son. Try here for more info:

Turkituck 10-18-2003 04:23 PM

Hmm.... Does anyone remember when tyler was telling raph about his troubles, he mentioned his babysitter let him watch his all time fave movie? They showed the TV screeen and I was like "Hey, he's watching a samurai flick!" Maybe he was watching Lone Wolf and cub.
