OUCH! Bad news for non-GameCube owners.

According to my new EGM, only the GameCube version has a "Casey Jones Mode" that is unlocked once you "Gather all Crystals in the GBA" version. OUCH. Good thing I'm buying it for GC.

Oh yeah, they rated the game 5.0, 6.0 and 7.0 (7.0 guy says fans of the old games will love it. :D )

EDIT: Mario Kart got 10, 10 and 9.5! :o :D

RskimB 10-18-2003 11:18 AM

whats casey jones mode?

Kid Icarus 10-18-2003 11:48 AM

I'm guessing you get to play through the game as Casey :P .

Sweet!

And Mario Kart's going to have me getting another 'cube, two broadband adapters, a HUB, and another ethernet cable. Can we say a LAN in my room? :D

Albrecht 10-18-2003 11:55 AM

DAMN IT!!! :x

RskimB 10-18-2003 11:57 AM

i'll have to steal a gamecube then :D

TalonMC 10-18-2003 12:04 PM

'Fraid you're wrong about that Mikey...

I know first-hand that the Xbox version has that mode also.

verminator_x 10-18-2003 12:10 PM

does some one knows when the tmnt game will be realsed in scandinavia?
i know that it will come out the 21 october but very many games has been realsed in the us and then it have gone a long loong time before the game has been realsed in scandinavia.

hm it would be real cool if the new game will be like the old one from 91 with the title "turtles in time"

OA 10-18-2003 12:53 PM

Well, if that mode is on GBA and X-box than it had better be on PS2!!! :x
If not, im going to a very unhappy camper!!!!

Actually, EGM would be wrong.
But it is kinda unfair if it wasn't on the other systems.

Well, these guys are normal gamers who aren't really fans of TMNT.

Trunks 10-18-2003 06:28 PM

so what I played the demo for pc and my opinion is that its an awsome game it does'nt matter if your a fan or not its still a great game.

Prowl 10-18-2003 08:02 PM

Fraid I'm still getting it for PS2, even though I have all systems and I love Casey. You see, I still play the old Snes and Genesis Turtle games, and 5 years from now, when the Cube is in the closet and the Xbox is in some Pawn shop, I will have a backwards-compatible PS3 and still be able to play my PS2 TMNT game on it. (it is annoying to pull out the Genesis and SNES out everytime I want to play it). And I know for certain that Nintendo's next offering will not contain backwards compatibility because Nintendo hasn't figured out one format to stick to because they always like to play things their own way, so it is very unlikely that we'll get a next gen system that will play GC games as well.

But moreover, I played the PC demo with a crappy PC controller, and I for one have a problem with only two shoulder buttons on the Xbox and GC. When I play a game with a lot of moves, I like to have some assigned to multiple shoulder buttons. And with one being reserved for the dash (It sucked so bad dashing with no shoulder), and the other button for the uppercut move.

Losing Casey (though I doubt it's exclusing to GC) is not enough reason to play it on a bad controller OUCH, like soul caliber, though I had to suffer through that one for Link.

Edit: good to see Mario K get good reviews, we are getting that game and playing it till the end of time.

And as I said, I paid the PC demo, minus an intelligently-designed controller, and I have to say the game will live up to expectations. It is fun as hell, and the turtles look great. Screw EGM's incompetent reviewers. They gave Jak2 a not-so-hot- grade because they sucked at playing it and it was too tough for them...Waaaaaah!! :)

Same thing happened with F-Zero GX. Screw EGM & they're pitiful excuse for gamers. :flaming: :D
I personally love the GC controller. It feels like it's made to fit your hand. About the Casey thing........

I love my Game Cube :)

Dosent matter controller wise to me anyway. I'm working on building an arcade cabinet in which I'll put MAME, my TMNT arcade PCB/Jamma Board, and my GC with Soul Caliber 2 (Link!!!) & the new TMNT game. When I'm finished, I'll be able to play it with a 4 player Slick Stik joystick panel. Now that's how all TMNT games were meant to be played.

Sorry for all you PS2 & X-Box owners. I really do hope they put Casey in all versions so that no one gets jipped.

Prowl 10-18-2003 09:18 PM

I don't dislike the GC controller, but I do think it is flawed. I was playing Castlevania Aria on my GB player and sometimes when things would get furious, I would accidently push the map button because they are so jumbled together (and I have small fingers) and when fighting on SoulCaliber and pushing X and Y to do combos, I'd accidently push the mammoth button, and mess up.

BUT...The controller fits very well into your hand, like you said, and for games like Zelda, there is nothing better.

And yes, F-Zero, and Sly Cooper, and now Jak 2 suffer in reviews because these reviewers are too young to have played games when games would kick your ass and hand it to you, like back in the NES days "Ninja Gaiden anyone?"

It sux too because some people come to trust these reviews, and as a result, excellent titles like f-zero get overlooked.

As for Casey, he will be missed, but I am sticking to PS2 just for longevity. The only thing that will change my mind is if the old Arcade game is hidden in the GC version. However, nothing could make me get the Xbox Version, unless it had a four player coop mode, which aint gonna happen.

Leo656 10-18-2003 09:19 PM

Actually I find EGM's reviews to be fairly accurate... they just seem to prefer games that are "fresh" and "innovative", and they are definitely NOT fans of beat-'em-ups like TMNT. Thus, the lower scores, which I predicted by the way. It's just like I figured... TMNT fans would love it, non-TMNT fans wouldn't care.

It's not the end of the world. It's like how wrestling games always get medium to low scores since they aren't anything "new" or "inventive". Fans like 'em, non-fans just don't care.

cqb101 10-18-2003 09:29 PM

Awesome! Casey's my favorite character so I'm so glad GC's getting him. :D

you mean Gamecube. you have to use the GBA to unlock it.

And i really doubt it will be. PS2 rarely gets extras in their games, because the other versions need bonus's to boost their sales.

I kinda doubt the Xbox has Casey, cuz you need the GBA to unlock him....

Duke 10-19-2003 01:42 AM

It probably could be on both X-box and Gamecube and not on PS2. Even if it takes a GBA to unlock it on Gamecube, it could still be a downloadable extra feature through X-box live. Thats why i love X-box so much almost ever game now, not the earlier releases but the later games have downloadable content. And its usually not just crappy stuff either, i mean splinter cell has a whole extra level.

jasonorme666 10-19-2003 02:19 AM

Oh MAN! Playing as Casey is gonna we so sweet.

Thank god im a Gamecube man.

I didn't say you needed a GBA to unlock him on Xbox.

Brodie 10-19-2003 08:15 AM

So we have to buy both games, for the GBA and GC.....And the link cable....God damn....

Oh ok. So I guess all the time I've spent playing the Casey Jones story mode on Xbox was all in my imagination then. I only test Xbox games for a living... I guess I don't know WTF I'm talking about here. Thanks for setting me straight.

How do you unlock him on X-Box?

Kid Icarus 10-19-2003 11:09 AM

And Talon, I know how the testing works for videogames. Legaly you arn't supposed to be telling us anything about the game, as I'm sure Konami would be a bit peeved. If you're telling the truth, youre telling the truth, but I highly doubt it. Nothing personal though.

if you plan on playing Final Fantasy: Cyrstal Chronicles with more than yourself, you'll need the cable. might as well get it now before stores have problems stocking them.

That's very true. Game testers aren't supposed to give out secret info about games... which is why I won't be offering up new information. But if a question is asked concering something that is public knowledge (such as the CJ mode) then I'll happily help to clarify the issue.

jeff the cheff 10-19-2003 12:35 PM

I hope casey jones is on PS2!

OA 10-19-2003 12:42 PM

Things are getting a bit testy in here... :P ...I guess we'll have to see next week what the real deal is...

Prowl 10-19-2003 01:31 PM

Yup I work in the game industry too, such mentionings can get a man's ass handed to him, lol. Thanks for the info though. Still getting the Ps2 version though. Crappy controllers and paying extra to be online are not worth it for me, even if I do get a new level.

ThirdMarioBro 10-19-2003 01:32 PM

People who work at game mags should be forced to play all major classic games before they're allowed to write about future games in those series.....whatever. I don't pay attention to most VG Mags anyway, except Nintendo Power. They think like I do. I wonder what EGM will say about Super Mario Advance 4......*cracks knuckles*hehehe

Prowl 10-19-2003 01:35 PM

They Loved it Third Mario, got game of the month, I think. Which, although I love classic mario a lot, I dont think it's fair that a rerelease to an old game should be judged as a new game and be given GOTM. Jak2 really deserved that limelight. But in the end the review hardly matters, in that Jak is outselling Mario.

Dark Helmet 10-19-2003 02:27 PM

Who gives a crap about the Casey Jones mode. The real secret is whether or not the original arcade game is going to be included in all of its glory. If not, the game will suck.

Mr. Snackpants 10-19-2003 02:44 PM

who cares if the original game will be included, id rather play that on my NES.

OA 10-19-2003 02:50 PM

I agree with ya Ben...would rather play it on the old 8-bit..
