Irma's last name: Langinstein or Margrat?

In the 1987-1996 series, Irma's last name is never mentioned. However, it is often said to be Langinstein. But I've also heard or Margrat.

What's correct? Was anything made official?

neatoman 10-01-2017 02:36 PM

Magrat? Sure you're not confusing Irma for this chick?

Utrommaniac 10-01-2017 02:43 PM

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's Langinstein

Original TMNT Cartoon Fan 10-01-2017 02:44 PM

Margrat

Here's at least one source that says Margrat:

Often said? By whom? Maybe I've been living under a rock but this is the first time I've heard this.

Powder 10-01-2017 03:08 PM

It's only ever been Langenstein as far as I know. If Margaret was ever in there it may have been as her middle name, but I personally have no memory of that being the case.

IndigoErth 10-01-2017 03:36 PM

I've never heard of the Margaret name. Knew it was Langinstein long ago though... are we sure it's never mentioned?

oldmanwinters 10-01-2017 07:46 PM

I think it's ridiculous how some fan wikis list April's middle name as "Harriet" as an official part of continuity, sometimes across every continuity of the franchise. All because it was mentioned as a throw-away gag in "Leatherhead, Terror of the Swamp." I can't remember if Irma's last name was ever mentioned in any episode, but I have accepted the Langinstein designation in my own mind.

sdp 10-01-2017 07:55 PM

Well what can begin as a throwaway gag can become canon in franchises, hell "fanon" which are non-canon facts mostly regarded canon by the fandom have also become canon.

Coola Yagami 10-01-2017 10:33 PM

Unless it was in Red Sky or those European vacation episodes... I honestly do not remember Irma's last name ever being mentioned.

Roseangelo 10-01-2017 11:34 PM

Irma's last name was definitely never mentioned in the series.

Agreed.
So where are you guys getting Langinstein from?? :-?

Ninjinister 10-02-2017 01:41 AM

Might've been something that someone made up once upon a time that stuck and everyone assumes was legit.

I just always assumed it was one of those millions of details I'd forgotten.

At least you hear the name Harriet in the FW series once. You NEVER hear Langinstein or Margrat. Where is everyone getting those names from?!

Wasn't that what happened with Brock and Misty? They seem to be called Slate and Waterflower respectively by fans sometimes.

Cryomancer 10-02-2017 04:40 PM

Well the last name isn't on the toy card either. Where the hell did that come from then? Archie?

Hmm... perhaps IMDb is to blame? At least the speculation seems to have preceded the rise of Wikipedia:
http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/sho...59&postcount=6
http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/sho...1&postcount=10
http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/sho...8&postcount=11

I don't think it ever showed up in Archie, because Irma only appeared in issues 3-4 (episode adaptation) and was way off-model from the cartoon.

pferreira 10-05-2017 09:07 AM

I asked David, not sure if he'll respond. He mostly never does. :-?

EDIT: Okay wasn't expecting that. David replied to me via Facebook. He said I could quote his responses as well. I asked him what Irma's surname was and his response was:

"I don't think she ever had one. It probably got mentioned in some obscure episode somewhere (maybe not even one of mine), but I have no memory of it."

David wrote the first episode she was in so I wondered if he created her character. He didn't answer that but he did clarify whether Langinstein is her surname:

I am almost 100% certain she never had THAT particular name.

Then said:

If her last name was ever mentioned in an episode I'm sure some fan would have made note of it. My guess is we never gave her a last name because we never had to. I usually don't both with a last name unless it has to be used in dialogue. If I had created 007 he would have been just "James!"

He also pointed to where he got the name Irma from:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0041673/

Hope that's helpful guys. :)

Prowler 10-05-2017 11:08 AM

You're friends with David Wise?

No problem. Just trying to help. I thought I'd use a direct source even though it's just one that's constantly challenged. Nice of David to respond, he doesn't normally especially since he got annoyed with me recently.

MrPliggins 10-06-2017 06:07 AM

Interesting. So they probably gave Vernon a last name because he was a reporter and had to say it during news reports. No reason to ever state Irma's last name. I can't remember when we first heard Vernon's last name.

I know TMNT staff posts here, but had no idea David Wise did as well. Or did you meet the guy at conventions and such?

Powder 10-06-2017 08:19 PM

wat

I'm just saying a lot of Technodrome users are on his Facebook friends list. Doubt he comes here.

I found it on the wiki.

MsMarvelDuckie 10-07-2017 12:04 AM

As did I but now I'm wondering what their source was for that info.

I'm just surprised lots of Drome users seem to "know" him.

Tetsu Deinonychus 10-07-2017 09:04 AM

So, Irma's just "Irma"? Works for me.

Fans flock to those tied to their beloved franchises. I've got voice actors, comic artists, stunt-men, etc. as Facebook friends. Some of whom I'm happy to say ended up becoming actual friends!
:tlol:

Cryomancer 10-07-2017 08:52 PM

I'm seriously wondering where the hell that name came from then. I had it in my brain as accepted info and I'm not even a huge fan of the old show or anything. We have a mystery on our hands here.

CyberCubed 10-08-2017 01:45 AM

I thought Irma's model sheet from Turtles Forever had her last name Langinstein, but I guess not:

https://i.pinimg.com/originals/e0/9a...e7d4d114ff.jpg

Just Irma is listed. I feel like I've seen a model sheet with her last name before.

Powder 10-08-2017 02:01 AM

I had checked my copy of that too, & was also surprised to see it wasn't there. This is quite a discovery. :tlol:

Original TMNT Cartoon Fan 10-08-2017 06:54 AM

Nickelodeon

Didn't Nickelodeon use "Langinstein" in one early-episode of the 2012-2017 series?

MrPliggins 10-08-2017 09:52 AM

So is IMDB the only place that states her last name? I wonder where they got it from.

Haven't seen the Nick episode in question but it seems the name was already somehow established before 2012.

Here it's mentioned in a post at this community, dated back to November 2002, 10 years priror to the beginning of the Nickelodeon series

DevilSpooky 10-08-2017 07:40 PM

I have memory of always knowing her as Langinstein, and thats from even before the big Internet boom... WTF?! :teek:

EDIT: So I can't link it because you need to be a member there so see it but if you google "card 44 irma panini" you find a card from Panini's sticker collection of the Nick Turtles, this is a card of Irma and it does identify her as Irma Langinstein, this is a Licensed collectible so at least Nick's Irma actually has the surname Langinstein. The site is Laststicker.com BTW and it's a site for people to trade stickers and trading cards.

Probably cribbed from somewhere else on the internet and then signed off on as an oversight. If we can't keep things like this straight, some studio heads probably don't even give a dook.

Probably how "Tilley" is starting to show up as Renet's surname elsewhere despite only being mentioned in one thing ever, that almost nobody (comparatively) has read.

Panda_Kahn_fan 10-09-2017 03:50 PM

Hmmm, considering who started this post, did this debate get started because I used the name 'Langstien' for my TMNT fanfic?

Seriously though, I just found the name on the wiki, and it seemed to fit. So iI take it nobody actually knows where it came from? OY!

Ninjinister 10-09-2017 05:46 PM

Well since it was pointed out that there was no source for it, it was removed from the Wiki.

Legit information is what rules these things and I let one slip just because I assumed since I saw it everywhere, it was legit.

I feel bad that the Wiki now has contributed to misinformation.

Good idea. Still, I think the fanbase will forgive me if I keep using the name. :tlol:

I always did wonder where the wiki got the name from. :-?
