TMNT: Bebop & Rocksteady Hit the Road (August 2018)
Bebop & Rocksteady Hit the Road, a new weekly comic series, is coming in August: https://www.cbr.com/bebop-rocksteady...-weekly-comic/

We haven't seen Bebop/Rocksteady since the last 5 week series "Bebop and Rocksteady: Destroy Everything," so its been awhile since their last appearance. Sure they're in the current Batman crossover but its not canon.
I guess Bebop/Rocksteady will now go on all sorts of crazy roadtrip adventures outside the Turtles. |
I will definitely look forward to this.
|
Destroy Everything was one of the most fun minis IDW has put out so far, so needless to say, I'm VERY excited to see the continuing adventures of B&R (and Anchovy.)
|
Consider me hyped! Funnily enough, I'd been thinking about asking Bobby if we'd see these two soon considering that every other character in the series is currently active and/or accounted for, so this announcement was a great surprise. Bring it! 8)

Whatever the case though, I'm excited for this; the last Bebop and Rocksteady weekly miniseries was awesome. I wonder if other artists will be brought in for this or if Bates will handle every issue |
Hm...seems like August is the time of the Mini Series for TMNT.
It should be interesting to see what exactly they've been doing this whole time. |
Assuming they won't appear in the main series until after this, it's been... Holy crap, 3 years since they were in the main series! I don't even think they've been in anything other than these weekly minis.
|
Awesome! :tcool:
|
Kevin recently had his hair dyed the color of the turtle voted for which was Donatello. At last week's NC Comic Con he said he was wearing it in honor of a new book too. Well, this explains the riddle. I suppose if we are as lucky as we are to get a follow up to Destroys Everything what about Bebop and Rocksteady Go Out of This World?:o:tgrin:
This will be fun! Many questions such as where have they been? Where will this mini feature? Any characters such as Wingnut and Screwloose get further development instead of a blink and you will miss it? We did not have much of an impact on the ongoing last go around, but what about this time? |

Seriously though, B&R are shaping up to be pretty much the TMNT equivalent of Deadpool, so why not give them their own supporting cast? And why not have the mutants from the first mini be it? :D |

Anyway, as for this series itself, I wonder if it's going to tie in to the last Bebop and Rocksteady mini. Are we going to see Savanti, Insect April, Andrew's nightmare dimension and Anchovy again? |
This is going to be awesome! Can't wait.
|
Bebop and Rocksteady, time traveling terrorists...
Bebop and Rocksteady, road warrior wannabes... What's next? Bebop and Rocksteady, gang-pressed intergalactic wrestlers for Stump in Dimension X? Battle Nexus Champions? The possibilities are horrifying. :tlol: |
All things considered, if they worked for Stump, they'd probably be set for life and never look back

And yeah, ChosenOne seems to be on the money... they're the TMNT Deadpool now. Violent, insane, and out rollicking around in crazytown. I suppose by this point, it is really hard to rein them in. They're pretty overpowered. Although it sounds like this mini-series might be reducing their power level (which would help get them back in the main series)... |
In a world where powerhouses like Slash and Leatherhead exist, I hope they're not too powered down, if at all.

They needed to be Juggernauts in IDW after they were made to be too stupid and butt of jokes becoming their kryptonite every time. Its just they are too invulnerable. This is a good example at how they are too strong and need to be weakened a bit. http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/...8003-bebop.jpg |
It's really just a question of what it would take to weaken them. Besides using their own stupidity against them.
|
Other than Null's wolf pack and Dreadmon, they're the only human mutants we've seen.
It'd be extremely easy to write in a solution--mutated humans are much stronger but inherently unstable, and Bebop and Rocksteady are beginning to demutate. |
Yeah, I could see them getting desperate and going as far as to kidnap a scientist who can make their mutation "stick".
Maybe Lindsey or her ex who works for Null? |

As far as this mini following up on some of the Easter Egg characters introduced in the last weekly miniseries, I mean, why? I think Bobby and the rest of the creative team were more so just throwing fans a bone by featuring characters like Wingnut, Screwloose, that angler fish, and the alternate timeline mutated April who became a crime fighter. Anchovy has been confirmed, and I imagine this new minseries will at least briefly sum up what Bebop and Rocksteady have been up to since they lost Renet's time scepter and beat down Savanti Romero, but I imagine it won't amount to much more than the two of them making their way cross-country, north from South America back to the United States, where we the viewers will rejoin them and see how they attempt to get back to NYC, with hilarious hijinks ensuing. And also some kind of snafu with their powers/mutation? Maybe we see the two of them revert back to their human selves, in whole or in part? |
I don't see why everybody puts so much stock into the "main ongoing" as opposed to Universe.
At this point, the main ongoing is the major story beats, while Universe is keeping the other pots going. No need to diss on Universe. Except for the backups. There still hasn't been a single backup story that I think was worth printing. Even "Prey" was more confusing than good for me personally. |
Personally, I'd be okay with B&R not making an appearance in the main ongoing for a good long while. Until after #100 and everything else currently rising to a boil simmers down. There's other places they can and as we learned, will, pop up in the meantime.

I wonder if any of the old Foot Clan, like Karai, would honestly want them back if they wrestled control back from Splinter? I don't think they would. Bebop and Rocksteady botched the mission with the triad for no good reason, they didn't report their encounter with the Mutanimals, they didn't finish the job on Donatello, they failed to beat the Turtles in formal combat, thereby forcing Shredder to take matters into his own hands which lead to his death. Then they literally just left to join some other gang in Brazil. If that wouldn't clinch it, finding out they almost destroyed the multiverse would.
|
I'm not so sure they'd want to rejoin the Foot either, so the feeling would be mutual. They'll probably do pretty good acting on their own at this point, but granted, that means no one would be around to keep them on a leash.
Which is probably the only reason why the Foot Clan should take them back; to keep them on a tether and to keep events like destroying the multiverse from happening again. Bad things happen when they're left to their own devices. But then again, bad things also happen when they're under someone's control. Just...slightly less bad. Between basically getting their leader killed under someone's watch and destroying all of time and space on their own, I think there's a good idea of which situation is worse. |

Wingnut confirmed, I'd wager. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bh6g-ReH...by=nickpitarra |
Nice find! I do hope this mini-series builds off the multiverse expansion created by the 2016 series!

Always up for some Wingnut! :D
|
Yeah, sure, Wingnut, hooray... but who's the big friggin' dragon thing? :tlol:
|
Maybe even more importantly, who/what is that black outline to Wingnut's left? You can clearly see both of his arms and his right outstretched wing, but there appears to be something or someone blocking his left wing from view. Could it be a temporarily blacked-out character? Hmm...

It's kind of funny how obscure a character Wingnut is in the IDW universe so far, given he was one of the Mutanimals in Archie and one of the oldest created mutants in the franchise from the 90's. A bat mutant is also pretty unique compared to most of the other animal mutants too.
