TMNT #96 Preview and Discussion

It's not much for a preview, but since it's releasing on the 31st and a thread hasn't started up yet...

Here's a short one?

Did Leo really lose enough blood to pass out that fast?

Mutant Ninja Anole 07-28-2019 01:45 PM

I mean, my brother would get faint just being in the same room as someone taking blood. If you ever give blood, they always have snacks and drinks to recharge you, and I’m guessing Leo has to give more than a typical blood donation.

So Jenny is taking it about as well and can be expected. She immediately went to the “maybe it’s not permanent” thought though. Truth is, we don’t really have time to freak out too much with their lives at stake. Makes me wonder if we’re going to have her break down over it after this arc.

Of course there’s also the chance that Jennika might not be mutated permanently but I’d guess it’s at least for awhile.

lonewarrior20 07-28-2019 05:34 PM

jenny is bigger than the other turtles right? i also wonder how much time has passed cause it looks like its already midday when they're talking with nobody and alopex.

ProphetofGanja 07-28-2019 07:07 PM

Is that a blueberry soda Leo’s drinking?

Well spotted! And provided by Lindsey, no less!

Two thoughts:
1. It still seems weird that Jennika's hair just, like... absorbed back into her head? Falling out might have looked ickier afterwards, but still makes more sense.

2. I can't lie, while I can buy her being on "Leo" terms with Leonardo, he's the turtle she's had the most interactions with. It looks a bit odd seeing her saying "Donnie" and him calling her "Jenny" back. I do kinda feel like more groundwork could've been put down. Maybe some flashbacks would help in that regard?

Overall loving this though!

Michael Finnegan had that kinda nonsense happen all the time.

You made me think the issue was out for a second, lol.

I hope if she changes back it is only a temporary thing. I also don't think Mutations are temporary in this time line. Bebop and Rocksteady never actually reverted, it was an illusion created by Savanti. Wouldn't one also need ooze administered every time they reverted to survive the transformation?

It's kind of ambigious as to wheter or not mutations can be undone.

First off, you're not exactly correct about Bebop and Rocksteady. Savanti accomplished this reverting their bodies to a previous age, for all intents and purposes they weren't mutants anymore, it wasn't an illusion. What's unclear is wheter or not they would eventually turn back into mutants regardless of Savanti or the Time Masters interference.

There's also the Gang of Four who claimed and demonstrated their ability to transform at will, simply by cycling the ooze in and out of their system. The problem with that is that when we see one of them lose a peice of his face, we can see he's mostly artificial underneath, implying there's a lot more going on.

I wonder if Null Industries invented it...?

What's the blueberry soda joke??? I don't get it!

It's from the Mutanimals mini, Pigeon Pete kept suggesting someone invent a blueberry soda/cola and even pitched it to Null herself after she was defeated.

Ohh haha. I guess I'll have to re-read that!

Utrommaniac 07-29-2019 03:18 PM

Let Pete have his blueberry soda.

(I actually thought the scene with Natsu sneaking sodas while Karai was out was really funny, simply because that would be a factor for Pete to just immediately want to befriend her. And somehow, I want that to happen so badly)

ChosenOne 07-29-2019 03:22 PM

What if Null is actually putting something in the blueberry colas to brainwash people as part of her master plan, though? Pete... Natsu... Leo... Oh, no! :o

You just made my day, Utrommaniac! I chuckled out loud when I wrote that scene with Natsu. I felt like it was pretty funny and then wondered if anyone besides me felt the same way after the issue was released to the world. Glad you got a kick out of it, too!

:tlol:

Talk soon...

"Remember that a ninja is a master of himself and his environment and we are turtles"...but can they master the threat of blueberry cola?

Utrommaniac 07-29-2019 04:23 PM

CyberCubed 07-29-2019 06:21 PM

I wonder if they had Jennika ask about her mutation being temporary, just to give them a "backdoor out" in case the whole female Turtle thing backfires and they can change her back to a normal human in case it's not received well. I guess we'll see.

Damo 07-29-2019 10:27 PM

I am reasonably sure people are overthinking that line.

Anyone that isn't Bebop and Rocksteady would look at being turned into a mutant animal and go "uh... can you FIX this?"

Donnie's enough of a scientist that he's not going to say "no," but his "I have no idea" isn't promising, since he didn't even know what would happen. All this mutation stuff is pretty random. Anchovy ate a human-turned-mutant-rhino guy's ear and became bigger, smarter, and gun-savvy.

ChosenOne 07-29-2019 10:36 PM

Jennika gets a blood tranfusion from Leo, turns into a ninja turtle. Anchovy eats a piece of Rocksteady, becomes smarter. Random is damn right. Though, to be honest, I feel that if we were to see any examples of the ooze or the mutagen's effects wearing off, then Hun would be the prime candidate. He only got one dose of the stuff, IIRC, unlike Saki's continued treatment, and is still going strong. Able to put up a decent fight against Slash and a Triceraton, at least. Ergo, I don't think it wears off. Or at least not anytime soon.

Utrommaniac 07-30-2019 02:45 AM

At least with Rocksteady, he can only get so smart  .

lonewarrior20 07-30-2019 05:03 AM

wait, would this mean the rat kings rats might be slowly mutating then? i mean he did have them attacking and biting the turtles. can't wait for tomorrow.

I don't think a straight up blood transfusion would be enough to mutate someone, remember Jenny had some Ooze before she was injected so that probably combined.

Full preview.

Spoiler:
Don Turtelli and Big Louie!?

Mutant Ninja Anole 07-30-2019 09:29 AM

Nice catch on the cartoon reference. BTW, Do we have names for Splinter’s Foot Elite?

MikeandRaph87 07-30-2019 09:52 AM

I cannot read it, its thumbnail size. Looks like Mitt Romney and a bald guy with Ruffington from the Nobody arc? Is that who you say are the two mob bosses by a certain name? Not having the visual that the character are and not able to read the preview I cannot tell.

Neat easter egg I guess but not sure much will come out of it seeing how they're clearly in danger here...

Ninjinister 07-30-2019 11:56 AM

At least with this incarnation of Turtelli, it won't spawn thousands of pages of weird tickling fetish images.

Let's put all our 87 Gangster Villains in one room, and kill them all!

One of them, the big guy who snapped Lupo's neck in #94, is called Mongo. I think the blindfolded woman's name has already been mentioned as well but I can't for the life of me remember.

Anyone else getting a lobby-shootout-from-The-Matrix vibe from her entrance here?

Let's not get carried away now. Note the two mentioned look nothing like they did in the cartoon. The one who is Louie looks like Ruffington while the one who is a don is not Turteli. However, I understand disdain for Turteli's gimmick. The other mobsters are forgettable though.

Utrommaniac 07-30-2019 03:48 PM

I mean, I was mostly joking :P

CyberCubed 07-30-2019 04:16 PM

At the rate the story is progressing I do wish this wasn't just going to end in another 4 issues. The Foot being ruthless killers (under Splinter's rule), is very interesting but it'll likely to end by issue 100. I also like how this female Elite guard is getting a lot of focus, she had the best design out of the others.

So both Karai and Splinter are going after the mob, which is kinda funny, in addition to each other.

Agreed. This sort of arc feels like it could go on "forever".

Karai and Splinter are pretty much doing the Lady and the Tramp spaghetti strand thing, only with violent ninja clan warfare instead of sucking and the poor Mafia's ever-dwindling numbers instead of the pasta. Brilliant! :D

It was Yumiko.
